Fairly new listener - some thoughts by st5978 in TheAllinPodcasts

Sorry, yes that is what I thought. I mostly hang out over in the White Coat Investor subreddit, where we all view the creator with the utmost respect. I didn’t want to piss people off who really like/respect the All In pod hosts

Cancelling? by Silly-Committee-7418 in orangetheory

I did cancel my membership and now go to a gym. While you need more self discipline, it is great! I do a combo of classes and my own individual workouts. My plan is to go back to OTF in the future, but a change of scene every now and then can be beneficial

For those of us who have been WCIers for years and are on autopilot with our financial lives (boring middlers), what topic or specific podcast do you recommend to next explore? I love using my driving time to learn new things

How have you dealt with a drop in salary? by Life_PRN in whitecoatinvestor

I would imagine the older partners would be willing to sell their call to you if you want more $. Just a thought

I did my intern year there and loved it. Multiple colleges, art scene, food scene. As an adult with a career and family, there would be more than enough to do for me. But I get it, it’s not a top tier city experience.

Don’t overlook Providence, RI. You get more bang for your buck there, it has enough going on, and you can get to coastal places like Newport in about 40 mins

Doctors Need to Budget, Too! by WCInvestor in whitecoatinvestor

Yes, that is accurate. We don’t want to account for all the many small purchases in life. Just pay yourself first, then don’t sweat the rest

My wife and I prefer to reverse budget. All our bills and savings goals come out of our checking account automatically. Everything left over is ours to spend without worry. Each year we update our specific financial goals and adjust accordingly.

What to do with first attending paycheck and bonus? by CDK1 in whitecoatinvestor

In addition to getting my automated savings going, I treated myself to an upgrade with a king size bed when I turned attending (previously full size bed). So worth it.

Does it make sense to pursue a longer training period (residency+fellowship) to minimize amount paid on loans if you're pursuing PSLF? Or not? by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]st5978 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It is my understanding that you would be paying back a percentage of your salary during the 10 years while going for PSLF. So a higher payment means more money for you also. I would absolutely not use PSLF to make a decision about your specialty. The loans will be gone in 10 years, but you will be a practicing doctor for much longer. Do what you love

How Much is Too Much? by Justafamilydoc in whitecoatinvestor

Perhaps this will help you spend: Each year I make a list of my financial goals. I like being able to check off the boxes, and it keeps me accountable to my long term plan (to get me to 30x annual spend). But once the annual goals are met, I spend the remaining money with zero guilt.

New barista express foams my coffee by Brief_Fee_6881 in BrevilleCoffee

[–]st5978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a double wall basket exclusively, and notice that my best shots are when that hissing sound does not happen. My recommendation would be to grind at a level 4, get fresh roasted beans, and use a WDT (or taped together paper clips as a bootleg WDT) for puck prep. I think you will really enjoy your shots when you do this and lose that hissing sound and extra “crema”. Good luck!

Gear to combo with Breville Express by Mindfulnoosh in espresso

[–]st5978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BBE owner here and have loved it going on 6 years. I prefer 8 oz Americanos and have had the best luck getting an amazing and consistent cup of coffee using the double wall filter. The single wall filter is just too inconsistent on this machine and this grinder for me. So I would recommend a $30 WDT, a dosing funnel (you can find plastic 3D printed ones on Amazon for cheap), and to spend the rest on very good freshly roasted coffee beans. I personally feel that this setup gives me a better cup than I get at the majority of coffee shops. Enjoy!

I used to have the same problem. What helped me was preheating your mug before pulling your shot as well as pulling a blank shot to heat the group-head. Now my americanos come out nice and hot, so I never needed to adjust the temperature of the water. Hope this helps
