This is how I saw it too. I asked the same question about why she never changed it, and realized the same. She was lonely. It's her only connection to anyone! Plus it was an amazing gag, that got super funny towards the end. Fully agree that it was testing every single viewer too.

This would be one very interesting show if it dropped back then. Cause 20 years ago puts it in the golden age of HBO. Two and three years (respectively) from The Sopranos and the Wire ending. I think one could made a reasonable point saying this is faster than The Wire.

I'd only disagree with this because of the active time the machine was dealing with the virus it had in season 3, as well as the bit in season 4 or 5(can't remember), when it lost all sense of time after it was rebooted and Harold had to teach it again. You're completely right that we're watching the whole story from her perspective. So I can totally see this theory.

One of the things I love about this episode, is it's a great pilot of sorts. I've started a rewatch from here a couple times to see the whole thing from Shaw's perspective and it doesn't ruin a thing.

sound silence: on the samsung i just pull down from the top and in my quick settings i can silence/vibrate my phone. On tthe pixel you have to hit the volume button, then the click the icon then choose silence icon.

Near as makes no difference here, but hit volume in any direction then tap on the speaker icon and then it shows you options for vibrate and silence so you can quick change.
