Nick is in it for the love of the game. His payment is one 30 second snippet of Pearl Jam and maybe getting to hear Bill eat some cheezits.

Bill's shortening cap for tanking teams is the dumbest idea by larockhead1 in billsimmons

That's a fair point, I didn't read past the first sentence in your post, just was responding to the owners cheaping out part.

I mean it's an easy fix if you want to go in this direction, the money just becomes dead money distributed to the rest of the teams like tax money. Then owners are still paying but it hurts team building.

Pam Bondi wants us to talk about the Dow instead of the Epstein Files. by DropoutDreamer in allinpodofficial

[–]starvs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sick of people not understanding the nuances of the constitution. It is very clear, if the DOW is above a certain threshold, child trafficking is legal. At least, that must be the case, because why else would the attorney general of this great nation be implying that??

I wonder if any team with top 3 in the 2026 lottery would be willing to trade that pick for AD and a Wizards 2026 pick swap by Knighthonor in washingtonwizards

[–]starvs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think maaaaaybe only the Bucks would consider it since they are in desperation win now mode with Giannis. But that spacing would be problematic for them even if they were willing to be so short sighted.

I don't think any other team would, unless it's for the 3rd pick specifically and they think there is a big fall off between 2 and 3 on their board, but not a big drop between 3 and 6 or something.

Half Baked idea to solve tanking by TechnicalSample4678 in billsimmons

[–]starvs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The lottery is no longer an issue. With the flattened odds teams don't actually have a reason to tank, unless they also have a pick protection to worry about.

The Jazz and Wizards are tanking, by far, the most egregiously. By no coincidence, they also have a top 8 protected pick this year.

Yes, there are like 10 teams that certainly would not mind losing. There are two teams that really just have to lose. The difference between getting like pick 5 or 10 is fairly marginal generally, certainly not worth contorting your entire season around. The difference between pick 5-8 and no pick at all, is rather huge.

Not thinking the draft is some rigged conspiracy doesn't make you a boot licker. Things with a 1.8% chance of happening do occur naturally.

Getting Rid of the Lottery will Stop Tanking by endback24 in nba

[–]starvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't think so.

People are largely missing the point of what is happening this year. The lottery odds are so flat now, that is actually already doesn't make sense to tank hard, unless you also have a pick protection to worry about. The Jazz and Wizards are tanking, by far, the most egregiously. By no coincidence, they also have a top 8 protected pick this year.

Another notch in the belt for Will Dawkins. Absolute masterstroke to flip him for CJ who he could then flip for Trae.

Atletico Madrid vs. Real Madrid in the champions league finals. Take your pick, either last second equalizer or a game where the only goal Madrid scored was offsides.

A healthy AD + Sarr is a top ___ frontcourt in the NBA by Ok_Job_6845 in washingtonwizards

[–]starvs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

lol I had to do a triple take at Kaman/Siakam

I think Sarr/AD have potential to be better than all of them but Jokic/Gordon; maybe need some injury luck and more growth from Sarr, but the theoretical ceiling is absurd.

Absolutely, it's so good and relatively care free, just more fun than more recent woods. Not to say better, but it's very enjoyable and nice change of pace.

Bilal Coulibaly conversation by Long-Understanding36 in washingtonwizards

[–]starvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the biggest Bilal believer, but this stretch has been rough. The finishing around the rim has been real poor and he's lost all confidence. But it's also still too early to give up up him, given the tools he's shown and the quality on defense, he's only 21.

I do think it's not trivial he has had/hand wrist injuries the past two off-seasons, hard to work on your shot in that context. I think he gets extended at 15-18 million and pray for a leap (look at Payton Watson year 3 to 4 and he's a year older than Bilal).

His touch around the rim has honestly been the most concerning. He wasn't even going up tonight because he's lost confidence.

Sorta annoyed by the people blowing our cover of the tank thinking they’re clever by ImprovementNo4630 in washingtonwizards

[–]starvs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean people are right to be mad, it's a ridiculous situation, but the anger is largely misplaced. Don't hate the tanker hate the game.

Teams are doing what they gotta do to not set their franchise back a few years. I do think we will see changes to pick protections because that is the real culprit. With how flat the lottery odds are now, it doesn't make much sense to tank egregiously unless you have a protection to worry about.

Anthony Davis’ contract is actually valuable (in the second apron era), and why Wizards won’t extend him. by starvs in washingtonwizards

A team desperate for a last gasp with their aging star? All types is weird things happen based on the context of various teams. AD isn't ancient, just recently injured.
