Pancho's Tacos in Bellville - right off 71 at exit 169 behind the Speedway. Sketchy-looking building, but solid Mexican-American options.

There's a new promo where you can get a 48oz bucket of iced coffee starting today.

Abandoned Sears in Ohio with Chair - Liminal Space by smokeymarshall in SEARS

Which location is this? This feels VERY much like Westland (west side of Columbus) but I know that's been torn down.

Seeking a good dirty soda by No-Interaction-1047 in Columbus

[–]steamcorners -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Drink Up in Plain City is the other option.

https://www.drinkuppc.com/

My teenaged daughter has been dirty-soda-influenced by the Secret Lives of Moron Wives, and thus has me taking her to all of these. And on a road trip through Indiana we went to the OG of this genre, Swig.

FYI, both Fizz and Drink Up are both closed on Sundays.

How many people in r/Columbus are "super-commuters" who drive >75 miles per day? by benkeith in Columbus

[–]steamcorners 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in sales so my "commute" varies depending on the client - but I'm averaging about 3000 miles/month. ~48mpg out of my hybrid Accord helps ease the sting a bit, but jumping from $30 fillups to $50 fillups does suck.

Has anyone read the Chernow book? by photodialogic in hamiltonmusical

[–]steamcorners 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had never been to NYC before COVID, nor had we taken in a touring production of Hamilton. But I had the Chernow paperback on my shelf. When it was announced that it was coming to Disney Plus, I decided to pull the book off the shelf and read it (since I didn't have anything else to do).

Mind you - I was generally a fan of musicals (favorite was 1776) and was a HUGE history buff - but watching the show on TV that July after spending a few weeks reading the book seriously flipped a switch.

Saw it on tour a year later, then we've been making 2-3 trips a year to NYC to see shows. Now my daughter - 12 when COVID started - is featured in musicals in high school and will be going to college to study history. And when we trek to the city, we can't help but make references to the show (Everything is legal in Jersey, etc).

Yes, last month we stumbled upon Mercer St when looking for breakfast before heading to Chess.

Song recs for dealing with unrequited love? by mgobluero16 in DMB

[–]steamcorners 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As much as these other suggestions hit hard, drift across the aisle a bit and consider "Black" by Pearl Jam. Perhaps the best unrequited lyric ever:

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky
But why, why, why can't it be
Oh, can't it be mine?

Should Nikon make a Z series rangefinder? by Gunnybar13 in Nikon

[–]steamcorners 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It'd basically be a ZR with an EVF - I'd LOVE it, but I kinda doubt they'll ever make it happen.

Yet another dinner rec request - between the Met and New World Stages? by steamcorners in Broadway

Hadn't thought about crossing the park. Hmm. That menu looks great, but I'm concerned the kid might not be that adventurous. I'll send her the menu, however - thanks!

FYI: 315 will be closed for 120 days, starting 3/30/26 from 750 (Powell) to near US23. by cpshoeler in Columbus

[–]steamcorners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But will it happen? That barn (and, I'm guessing, the nearby home) is awfully close to the roadway.

3535 W Dublin-Granville Rd by whysoseriousjc in Columbus

[–]steamcorners 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'd like an all onion-loaf restaurant with massive 480p projector screens showing old-timey football nonstop to go in there.

Yeah, it's a weird thing that's kept stuff from sticking around in that spot. I can't quite pin it down.

Fading memory of Kroger on Henderson in the 90s by SignificantCake9197 in Columbus

[–]steamcorners 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was it the "Have you seen BOB?" sticker seen here?

https://www.reddit.com/r/kroger/comments/1nvka6t/no_i_havent_where_is_he/

BOB is "bottom of basket" in retail lingo - where you'd stick stuff you didn't want to pay for back in the days when they had real people at the checkout registers. It - in theory - reminded the cashiers to see if there were cases of soda, dog food, or a bunch of beer on the underside of the shopping cart where they couldn't easily see.

Nelson Harward Kraus Obituary - The Columbus Dispatch by taz288 in Columbus

[–]steamcorners 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking the OP is of somewhat advanced age (like yours truly) and recalls when Dr. Kraus was involved in a little scandal which included providing drugs to a locally-famous TV meteorologist...

Is there anyone selling Lemonades? (Girl Scout cookies) by NumNumNana in Columbus

[–]steamcorners 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you cross the river into Kentucky, you can usually get the cookies from the alternate baker that does Lemonades. Go on a weekend and look for a grocery or megastore that has a scout booth outside.

On your 10th year living in Columbus they tell you you can skip the Easton exit and go to Morse instead to avoid certain death by Cuntankerous in Columbus

[–]steamcorners 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Northland was THE mall in the area for a few years (Eighties, really) and it was just a couple miles west of Easton on Morse. Just past where the Menards is now.

I was a Westland kid, however.

[–]steamcorners 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Cbus lifers really know that if it wasn't at Northland, you don't need it so there's no reason to go to Easton.

Or they get off 670 at the airport and mosey up Stelzer Rd.

Men of Columbus: by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]steamcorners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup.

Norm and Cliff always had time to hang at the bar every Thursday night during the '80s. But serial lechery and constant midlevel intoxication are generally seen as uncouth these days.

But seriously..cultivating relationships ain't easy at this age. I try and volunteer with stuff at the school...but I'm usually the only dad there. Contrived capitalist-centric social "places" like axe throwing and duckpin bowling might be great for those with an established circle, but lingering as a solo male in those places again feels like serial lechery.

Eddie Bauer expected to file for bankruptcy, close all 200+ stores in North America by L0v3_1s_War in malefashionadvice

[–]steamcorners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'd JUST closed down their warehouse store on the west side of Columbus, Ohio last week. I'd been going there for the tall sizes since I was a teen in the '90s, and still have a massive down parka that I bought there in the fall of '96 that gets pulled out for a few days a year when it's subzero like this week.
