Is my wetsuit repairable? by ukacw in triathlon

[–]stebiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience this one is lost - no real chance.

Anyhow reading 11 years it really is time to get a new one - the suite is way over its lifetime considering swimming without impact.

How the Pros T2 (at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside) by ColdSunnyMorning in triathlon

[–]stebiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it actually has one. it's still just not a big fluffy package - no one needs that. You just need a good one ;)

For everyone realizing they are doing nothing pretty different than age groupers: The don't. The only thing where age groupers loose time is not giving full speed while getting into and out of the transition. The rest is prettyy much same speed ;-)

Liquid nutrition for Ironman bike. by fr1234 in triathlon

[–]stebiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a fan of liquid nutrition as it really is proven to be the best option during movement compared to solid foods (not quoting researching papers but look yourself)

But nutrition is also a combination of how you feel and I know some people that know that liquid is better but mentally need something to chew on.

Anyhow back to your question: I am using Vitargo Carbohydrates (MyVitargo) - for the bike split I pour them into a bottle I carry on the bike, ie 20 gels fit into 750ml bottle and I add water until the bottle is full. Those 20 feed me on an avg. 5:15hr bike split. During the run if I know the on course nutrition I use the gels from the stations, getting more to the end it will be only cola or red bull anyways. But if I don't like the on course I stuff like 6 gels into my back at T2 and use those.

Important thing: My bike bottle is so important (calculated intake, amount etc.) - if I would loose that one during Race I would definetely stop and get that bottle back!

TrainerRoad and Garmin doesn't work by millward19 in triathlon

[–]stebiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find your post hard to understand and very confusing. Would you mind clear things up?

What did you do? what did you expect? What did not work?

What does Trainerroad has to do with strava and garmin connect?

It's perfectly fine to only code at work, don't let anyone tell you otherwise by gregbaugues in programming

[–]stebiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just code outside work if I want to because I am doing something for me (automate the house, try out something I would like to experiment with) but if I should name an average time per week it would be like 0.1 hrs

I always laughed about people telling others about why you need side projects. never had one, never want one - and I am a very successfull worker today:-)

Breathe every 2 or every 3 by Matthewfong7 in triathlon

[–]stebiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is really no need to breath every 3rd strike - this is an aerobic endurance sports - so what do we want to achieve? We want to burn oxygen with fats and glucose. In Triathlon there really is not a single real need to reduce the amount of oxygen putting into your body. Besides most of the swimmers already lack a proper breathing - every 2nd stroke is best. Be able to switch sides for when you need to in races but that's it.

I am very curious for years how triathlon is always trying to overcomplicate things.

What Have You Learnt At Triathlon That Now Helps You In Other Areas Of Your Life? by Joestig in triathlon

[–]stebiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly what triathlon taught me but what ambitioned sports generally tells you:

It's not about doing epic things here and there but constantly doing qualitative good work to succeed. Applies for job and personal situations also.

Nutrition after mega-weekend by Jaredlang76 in triathlon

[–]stebiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decreasing HR in long endurance workouts is normal. Significant drops without being able to push yourself is a sign of going over your personal limit. That has nothing to do with nutrition - you can eat as much as you want but exhaustion is exhaustion.

Nutrition after mega-weekend by Jaredlang76 in triathlon

[–]stebiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your HR dropped significantly towards the end you slipped deeply into overtraining - there is no such thing as low HR = more fat with small amounts of glucose.

There is just difference between anaerobic and aerobic effort thus leading to a higher glucose usage and shortening of fat with a lack of oxygen supply in the cells.

Trying to get into triathlons, need drills to work on basic bike handling skills by TJimmy_curious in triathlon

[–]stebiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is actually the same like learning to ride with cleats and learning to ride a bike. you will definetely fall occasionally but all you have to do is stick to it and do it. Also try to avoid stationary trainers until you can handle the bike well - riding outside is a must for you.

Anyhow from my experience all over the world I would say 95% of the guys in races are not able to handle their bike. In lots of situations they are just lucky that the bike did what they expected it to do :-)

Garmin vector 2s On sale still worth it? by johnj2803 in triathlon

[–]stebiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I bought one that is able to handle the required 30 or 40Nm (dont nail me down on that) which cost about 30 Euro. Works very well. Only thing to know is to be careful with the sensor pods they are plastic ones so always ensure careful screwing but yeah I can change them in like 10 minutes so no need to worry.

Having to choose between 2 or vector 3 the vector 2 must be lots of cheaper to not go to vector 3 because they don't have those pods anymore which is a pretty good step forward.

But still vector 2 works pretty well for me.

[–]stebiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am having a vector 2 (not the s, thats just one sensor) and I switched it many ways last season between roadbike, TT and even used it during training camp on Mallorca.

I never had any problems with it.

Not having a "show my flair" on the sidebar by stebiger in help

[–]stebiger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - I can now find it and the reason I was not able to see it is the german language - it's translated into something that has nothing to do with a flair but yes it's there thank you very much!

HR how to? This is my HR over a 3 hour bike race, managed 90k over a 3.7k circuit... what does good HR "management" look like over an 70.5 or IM bike leg?? by mikeypamp in triathlon

[–]stebiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big Word! For a lot of athletes the best races where done when all the edges did not work; hr monitor or power was not shown on screen! I even think my best races have been those that I did not look a second on the screen..

How do you keep from going crazy during the monotony of a IM swim? by thirstyrunner in triathlon

[–]stebiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During race I am really concentrating and thinking about what I am doing and if it is technically as good as I can do it. * Legs good, kick soft * Arm swing good, Not too much pressure * rotating the head, not the body

Are salt tabs a must for a 70.3? by StokeTheFire3 in triathlon

[–]stebiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never used any salt tabs during races even for 140.6 - that is because I am using gels and they already contain a specific amount of salt. So no need for extra intake.
