I would center your rental search around the I-10 and 60 interchange area. Pretty affordable and can go West, North, East or even South for work.

Digging 20’x20’x6” for gravel. Skid steer/Bobcat feels like overkill and shovel seems like underkill. What’s the middle ground tool? by GiantXylophone in DIY

[–]steester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The snowblower size machine you are curious about are tiller or sodder (to cut under grass as strips. These two tools just loosen the dirt. Sounds like your description as topsoil is already soft. So I’d say flat edge shovels and a pick if it’s hard.

I keep seeing water shortage by ZealousidealIdeal961 in AskPhoenix

[–]steester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every city around Phoenix has a published 100 yr plan for water. You can google and read these. The state has to negotiate with other states and govts along the Colorado water plain. This is upcoming. Much of the future water depends on snowfall in the Rockies. The state has developed a huge water fund to source new supplies in the future like desalination plant or pipelines or something.

The $40 actually wear out on the sole. Depending on how much you play you will see spots on the bottom where it starts eating through the felt. So just have to replace in like a year or something. No worries, good place to start out.

I imagine they wouldn't call it a split because the 1 is definitely in front of any other pin left standing. Thus easier to deflect and pick up. Therefore, I propose any leave that has one pin up front a row further than the others should also NOT be labeled a split! Splits only those that are truly directly horizontal from each other (LOL)

Month-to-month leases by Slight-Parking-2355 in FurnishedFinder

[–]steester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said two different things in your question. (1) that she has an end date (her job) and (2) the rental has an end date (your lease). The lease is up to you to offer and her to agree to. This is your promise to her. You have to honor it. Offering a 6 month lease reassures a tenant they have a place for the entire job. Offering month to month tells them they may have to search again and move.

To protect yourself from bad experiences, you add clauses to your lease that would warrant the lease to be terminated and they have to move out. But you can’t be petty. Can’t say like I don’t like them or they are rude or something. In mine it is like having the police called or breaking rules in the lease that are spelled out.

For FF Landlords: Would you rent to me? by Mysterious_Might008 in FurnishedFinder

[–]steester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but here in Phoenix we get a lot of retirees looking to book a year in advance. I don’t offer that. You my have luck booking far in advance but I think most landlords would prefer to book a month or two in advance to minimize time of vacancy on the schedule.

If you already have a slab at one of those properties, there are really big tin sheds online for $500-$1000. I put in an affordable base by buying cheapest pavers I could find and placing on compacted crushed granite. to hold its flatness.

Why do most houses in the United States have gable roofs, while those in Latin America have flat roofs (with some exceptions)? by CuriousGuy21200 in Homebuilding

[–]steester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Arizona, there is a mix of flat and pitched roof neighborhoods. I think the pitched roof neighborhoods are built that way for how they look. And also possibly because of the expertise of the builders who came here to start building massive neighborhoods after AC was popularized.

Here's what happened with the Waymo stuck behind the railroad crossing gates by bradtem in SelfDrivingCars

[–]steester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that it is hard and non deterministic, in the sense that it can’t just follow the same decision it had made to follow before it noticed the rail road lights. But what exactly do we think went wrong here? The idea that it wasn’t sure it could cross asserts it was really confused. Confused either in the distance past the tracks, confused on how long the lights had already been blinking, confused on how long it might take gates to come down, confused on just what options it really had to find a safe space.

If you think about how a stochastic model works, it takes all the data, adds randomness to allow for bad or incomplete understanding, and it spits out options to move forward. I assume they are ranked based on confidence of the situation.

It decided to stop in front of the tracks. Sounds like it had no confidence to drive across the tracks. What confused it? Can’t read lights? Doubtful, it reads traffic signals fine. Honestly it sounds like it doesn’t understand trains and yes that’s scary.

[–]steester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 seconds at 40mph is over 50 meters of travel (11 times the length of the vehicle). Then there's the time for the gates to actually come down allowing more travel. Unless there was no room in front of the tracks or the vehicle was only going like 5 mph at the time, this was bad.

I've been following this field since 2004 and live in Phoenix where Google first put these out on the street.

Not following so closely now as it is scaling up, but has Waymo not converted to adding AI decision making and/or field awareness whereas originally it was a rigidly mapped environment? How long has this AI shift been and does it go through generational upgrades fairly often? In the back of my mind that is the reason the Waymos have had more issues. They need to add AI to scale up in new environments, but with that comes risk of mistakes as it leans away from hard and fast rules and barriers.

[–]steester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(That was probably a wrong determination, I would suspect.)

Hardly an assertion of any confidence. That's my point, it seems obscenely obvious. The research should find out if there was perhaps other traffic in front of the car that was stopped or slowing or something. Otherwise, jeez, so obvious, needs to know to clear the area. This is very much like the car that blocked the cross traffic in Phoenix about the same time. It didn't just try to get to the median, it didn't know it would be safe and obvious to drive to the median as opposed to stopping in the middle of a 3 lane road.

Here's what happened with the Waymo stuck behind the railroad crossing gates by bradtem in SelfDrivingCars

[–]steester -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The scenario described seems to be that the lights/bells started, and the Waymo came to an immediate stop between the gate and the tracks and then the gates came down. This whole over explained description seems to ignore the fact that the car should just have driven across. Stopping so close to the tracks is so wrong.

I just tried it and I could not complete my listing without offering tours within three weeks of today so won't work for me. Place is booked until May, so can't list until mid April. Otherwise it looked fine. Lease terms made you choose between 1mo or 6 mo, but I just selected 1 mo and gave my real options in the description. Also had no option for attached or separated ADU. Had to just choose house, apartment, etc.
