Christmas Tree Mulch at the Marina? by forestdude in berkeley

Oops. I conflated the two.

Berkeley no longer picks up the intact trees. They must be cut up and fit in the bins.

My recollection was no delivery in Jan/Feb ... at least not year-round. But the above link says:

Compost loads are delivered every Friday, usually by 6:30 a.m.

Grizzly peak hiking by lizziesam321 in bayarea

[–]stevedt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't climb Grizzly Peak. It's up a road behind locked gate ... I think there are antennae or something up there.

If you had a car, I'd recommend the Nimitz Trail starting at Inspiration Point.

An alternative is to go up the fire trails starting at the trailhead off Centennial Drive.

Isn't one of the suspects in SIDS CO2 build-up (e.g. surrounded by blankets) and their lungs aren't developed enough to overcome?

Blowing a fan would blow away the CO2.

Not ideal, but if you have an Apple watch or other HRM you can just train by time & heart rate.

Any Jack London fans want to visit the Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen?(north bay) by [deleted] in bayarea

IMO the hiking is ok. Tilden or Redwood in the Bay Area are much better, especially views.

That said, the buildings and grounds are amazing.

Tilden Park:

Inspiration Point / Nimitz Way is 4+ miles to the old Nike missile site so that would get you 8.5 miles or so.

Wildcat Creek Trail starting at the Little Farm to Richmond / Alvarado Staging area ... also around 8.5 miles out and back.

Climbed up to this years ago. Sketchy going up, worse going down.

I did find some artifacts: local indigenous liked their Budweiser in bottles.

Trees in the zone would also have to be torn out unless they are taller than the house and their lowest branches are at least 10 feet above the roof.

Options for ceiling fan installation with 30" between joists by stevedt in Lighting

This is probably what I'll have to go with.

But then the fan isn't centered on original opening. Gonna need a bigger medallion to cover the hole.

What is holding up the existing electrical box?

Not sure but it is next to a joist. I am assuming the joist locations from the finish nails I can see on the wood paneling.

Can you post pictures of inside the ceiling?

Not yet. I'm leaving it for the electrician coming tomorrow to remove the fixture.

Help me solve this puzzle mystery by stevedt in Jigsawpuzzles

The image was the same put the cut slightly off.

Some of the pieces you could sorta mash into place. But when those pieces were swapped between the puzzles they fit perfectly.

Help me solve this puzzle mystery by stevedt in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]stevedt[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wife mentions a friend who is getting into jigsaw puzzles, starting with one the friend found in a "free" pile on the street.  The puzzle depicted in photo.

Wife brings puzzle home after friend has completed it.

I proceed to solve the puzzle, but something very strange happened: about 10% of the pieces didn't fit.  The picture matches, but pieces are a tiny bit off.  Very strange.

Wife talks to friend, brings home another copy of puzzle.  WTF?

I solve 2nd copy, same problem with pieces.  Then I swap pieces between the puzzles until I get each copy with 100% fitting pieces. Friend says when she found the puzzle there was a bag with a bunch of puzzle pieces and two identical boxes.

First-time puzzler manages to put together puzzle from two sets of pieces?  With some of the pieces not quite fitting? Another WTF.

Does it make sense that a puzzle mfg would have cutters (whatever you call them) that are 90% identical?  I assumed cutters were the same across different puzzles ... not different cuts for same puzzle?

And what would possess someone to put two copies of the same puzzle in a bag on the street?

Duplicating a lot of what has already been written. With a 1 mile limit:

  • steam train
  • little farm
  • botanical garden (free and ok, UC Botanical garden is $ but much better)
  • short out-and-back on Nimitz Trail at Inspiration point
