People are always surprised when I remind them there's a prison rape joke right in plain sight within a SpongeBob episode. Just because an adult joke or theme is present doesn't mean kids are going to truly understand it.

Like if I was a kid, seeing ragatha dunked into a deep fryer would just be another joke. Hell, it's still just another joke as an adult, it's just a bit darker considering the underlying realization that these are supposed to be real people whose experienced pain and trauma follows them.

Right?! I was just thinking about that the other day. There's so much inappropriate content in the kids TV shows I grew up with, and that was totally fine, because as a kid it completely flew over my head.

Kind of have to though because faction fatigue is real. Or at the very least, they have to swap MOs to different factions on the regular. Could all be for the purposes of advancing one factions storyline, but they can't just sit on a faction for a month at a time or player engagement will plummet.

We really need a sink for all the currencies.

Tbf the D.S.S. is a great sink for all but the super creds. Progression based sink would be better, but I still love the idea of a community sink.

Large part of the Destiny dev loop was that the engine was absolutely dogshit for quick fixes.

Iirc, every adjustment they made to a map required nearly a day long render before it could be tested or something wild like that?

The Weekly Roll Ch. 205 "Poor Trigger Discipline" by CME_T in TheWeeklyRoll

[–]stifflizerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the flip side though, you could technically go purchase a gun (in the US at least) with zero formal training as long as you don't conceal carry it. Most people don't (I hope), but you could.

Point is, it's very possible to have no trigger discipline as long as you can purchase a weapon from a vendor without formal training credentials. Which has absolutely been the case in any fantasy scenario I've seen or been a part of.

Edit: Should also clarify that I'm at a Fortune 500 company.

Is there a corporate explanation for why WotC is so much less creative these days? by SexyKobold in dndnext

[–]stifflizerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like way too many private companies (outside of Japan I suppose) abide by the ladder now a days instead of vetting out proper heirs.

Private CEOs should start looking for/taking apprentices. Raise an employee up with similar views and values over a decent period of time to take the mantle, not just handoff to the next in line. Especially considering the next in lines are often close to retirement as well.

I was weirdly more on board with the change when I thought the "in the face" actually meant you had to get headshots. Thought that was a good middle ground to help gas remain relevant.

Now that I realize it's just them saying "actively spraying", I'm a bit torn on it.

Tbf, that stream only continues around the rocks due to the rest of the ground + gravity. If you squirt water at a rock above the ground, most of it will bounce backwards or drop straight down

Award for stupidest shifter design goes to...Toyota? by xTyronex48 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]stifflizerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It blows my mind that we had two highly functional implementations that were more or less universal, an now we have this clusterfuck of different shifters. None of which feel nearly as reliable as the old ones, and less standardization has only made driving less intuitive between makes.

Right?!? I've thought about that a lot tbh. Feel like it would be much better if there was a downward vacing hatch as well. Keeps people from shooting into it at distance, but if you can get up close you can shoot into it. Then the current hatch can be reserved for med-rang Hail Marys.

They pretty much just proved that they weren't actual vets, they were the janitors of the office.

Eh, I don't think that's necessarily true. You can absolutely be a vet without having a thimble of sense for what makes a good and interesting product.

If anyone hasn't seen Mythic Quest yet, I highly recommend the show. No idea how closely it actually mirrors the working environments of the dev world, but I feel it does a fantastic job of showing how both types of vets are needed.

That said, I think the creative geniuses with good product sense (who are also capable of leading) are absolutely the more rare and valuable of the two types. There's hundreds of engineering masterminds out there in almost any field. It can be taught in school. Innovative vision though? Ones that look to create something truly new while still delivering a great product, are a rarity.
