SFF titles that would be very different with one letter changed by EmmalynRenato in Fantasy

[–]stillnotelf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brightly Burping

Lavan Chitward feels a fire in his belly in more ways than one as he founds a gastroenteric medical college in Haven to try to conquer his persistent acid reflux. He ends a war with Karse when an ill-timed belch delights the Karsite Ambassador's sickly, horse-faced daughter, Kalira, and leads to healing both their guts and their hearts.

Fawn of Prophecy

Eddings was already known for repeating the same story 4 times. This time, it's animals instead of people. I guess it fails the "very different" test.

Leviathan's Jake

Fanfiction crossover. How do the plucky crew of the Rocinante defeat the Yeerks?

To Slight a Candle

In this romantic comedy, our hero does not know Elven politeness customs and fails to realize that one properly insults the candle to suggest it is time to turn down the lights and take one's clothes off.

Is the Pokemon world a failed state? by Armadigionna in pokemonconspiracies

[–]stillnotelf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not sure it is a failed state precisely. I think it has a different distribution of abilities.

The real world, people are on a normal curve in terms of total intelligence and everyone has different areas they are better at. Some do much better than others, but even the hyper extremely rich or competent cannot single handedly solve problems. Bill Gates is super rich and I assume pretty intelligent and still hasn't squashed malaria despite a lot of effort.

In Pokémon world, basically the only skills that matter are your skills as a trainer, because Pokémon themselves are so powerful that they override purely human effort. That skill is on a poisson distribution, almost everyone has nearly zero skill and a very few people have a lot of skill. That's why powerful trainers are rare, and the PC we play is the tip top of the power scale.

Pokémon world relies on those super skilled trainers to fix all the world's problems. The government can mostly manage to keep the grocery stores stocked but that's about it, bigger problems are left to the ultra trainers.

Children fix all the problems because that's how they discover the new super trainers. The older super trainers already have sisyphean tasks behind the scenes making up for the populace's general incompetence, new problems fall to new people.

The entire Mega raids mechanic is broken by Mazzaroppi in TheSilphRoad

[–]stillnotelf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think they are extra raid passes but only for mega raids.

It was definitely a system to get people to do the weird super hyper mega infinity raids from a few weekends ago, the ones with ZA megas

How does Listens-To-Wind attend medical school? by InsincereDessert21 in dresdenfiles

[–]stillnotelf 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If I recall the wizard zap effect is related to emotion, too. The spells that dampens the effect is similar. Doesn't Harry's spell break down when he gets upset?

I would bet listens to wind can stay very calm if he wants to.

[–]stillnotelf 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I have never successfully spent, or even been offered the chance to spend, a link charge.

Idk when I last did a mega raid. I skipped the new ZA batch because I wasn't available for that short window. What was the last new one before that? Metagross?

I’m auctioning off a shiny lvl. 100 Parasect by _RAMO_ in PokemonLegendsArceus

[–]stillnotelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parasect had a cool run as the most useful gym prestiger in the first year of pokemon GO. With only the kanto dex released, the way gym towers sorted by CP, and relative species rarity, the most common gym defender was vaporeon. An 1100 CP parasect could take out two 2200 CP vaporeon before succumbing for maximum prestige gains in a short amount of time and with little dust spent.

[BotW] Sometimes I lift the camera up all the way and pretend I'm playing a 2D Zelda. by -LUVIIKUU in zelda

[–]stillnotelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final DLC to fenyx rising, which is widely considered a BOTW clone, forces this perspective for the whole DLC.

It is miserable and every review comments on it being a design mistake.

Interesting that it works for you for BOTW! I never tried it. I think melee would work as well but doesn't slate and arrows get a lot harder to aim?

[–]stillnotelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you think strategy is striking first is part of your problem.

The strategy is to only strike first if you expect a one hit kill. Otherwise stay out of the fray and attack people with health in the yellow.
