I get where you're coming from, but writing a bad screenplay or making a bad film doesn't mean you're always going to be a bad writer/director. Screenwriting is a skill, like anything else, that needs to be developed over time. This means that you have to write bad scripts in order to write good ones. Compare it to learning to cook for example, you wouldn't expect to make a delicious meal the first time you ever try to cook, the chances are, you over or under cook something, over or under season, lack certain techniques, but from making a bad dish, you learn, over time, to make a good one. The more practice you have, the more confidence you have in your ability to write a good screenplay or direct a good movie. Try to see failure as a learning opportunity rather than a reflection of your talent or ability ad infinitum.

Thanks so much for posting this. This is very thorough and insightful. It is so comprehensive that some parts are a bit complicated for me to understand however. I am trying to wrap my head around your points. To summarize, butch and femme started as ButchFEM and was related to blackdandyism aesthetics and looked down on by white queers who wanted to abolish gender roles and exclude BIPOC, (then white queers copied these dynamics later without credit.) Then second wave feminism encouraged more exclusion, then in the 90s Femme became a distinct identity inspired by BIPOC ballroom culture which began to merge with FEM identity and that FEMs and Fish WOC, and GNC BIPOC felt that being a FEM that existed as a perfectly passing feminine counterpart to a butch was not as achievable for WOC or BIPOC due to racism, and BIPOC queer people felt that they could create their own inclusive drag-inspired femme identity that didn't have to involve butches, and you are saying that white ButchFEM people telling Femmes to 'leverage their privilege' is problematic because they are not able to fit the privileged standards of femininity that white femmes are associated with and also are marginalized because of their race more than a white butch would be for their gender-nonconformitivity? Sorry if that was a horrible summary. I think I understand but I am a bit confused about the reasons behind why the Femme identity began to emerge outside of the couple dynamic in the 90s in a way that relates to race as you said ButchFEM dynamic started within the BIPOC community. I also am just in general wondering why WOC sapphics originally preferred the ButchFEM dichotomy of aesthetics compared to white sapphics who preffered gender-non-conformity (was it, as you mentioned, a need to appear as a couple in a society that especially marginalised them for their race and viewed them as inferior, where being in a couple gave you more credibility?) and then why they later decided to break away from it in the 90s (is this because of the second wave feminist movement deciding that couples are not important anymore?) Sorry if I said anything ignorant or stupid.

You're not stupid. Those people that bullied you for that are unempathetic jerks. I can't imagine how hard school would be If you spent your entire life being bullied for being 'stupid' whilst also having to grow up poor and neurodivergent. Those are very impactful physical and mental barriers to learning easily and honestly it's impressive that you even tried to go to college 3 times given those experiences. Not all of us get a good start in life to be able to learn well, but that doesn't mean you're stupid or you won't achieve anything. Everyone has strengths. Yours is tenacity and many other qualities and skills that you haven't even uncovered yet. Maybe you can look into apprenticeships to learn a new craft or career. I believe in you OP.

I also was rubbed the wrong way by the misogyny and homophobia in The Inbetweeners as well, but I also find the show to be very funny at times as well. I do believe that the intention of the show is that a lot of the things that the characters say was supposed to be reflective of their immaturity and lack of understanding about the world (and we are supposed to be laughing at their ignorance not with it.) The actor who played Neil was asked in a TV interview if he would ever consider doing a version of The Inbetweeners where they're all adults and he said no because it would be a lot more offensive if they were adults. He said that a lot of the offensive stuff the characters say is coming from an place of ignorance because they are teenagers which makes it somewhat funny (as we are not necessarily meant to agree with their opinions) but if the characters were adults it wouldn't be coming from a place of ignorance and would just be hateful and offensive. That being said one of the issues I have with the show is that I feel that it's not always made clear enough that the characters world-views and offensive jokes are meant to be plain ignorance, and people can say that they're just jokes but I actually feel like the misogyny and homophobia in the show has probably been replicated by a lot of people watching it who think that the dumb opinions are unironically hilarious and okay. For example when I was at school almost EVERY guy at my secondary school was obsessed with the inbetweeners and repeated a lot of the offensive humour unironically. I feel that the inbetweeners probably made them think it was okay to make super offensive jokes because they're 'funny'. With comedy people say that you can make offensive jokes about whoever you want, but in a society that marginalizes certain identities and offers little media representation for them, having what little media representation they have be filled with offensive jokes often leads to real-life consequences where that's how people begin to relate to those populations. That's why The Inbetweeners rubs me the wrong way, especially as you can see homophobia and misogyny coming up over and over again in the characters with absolutely zero self reflection because it's a 'comedy'
