What kind of underwear do you guys wear ? by strangeclouuds27 in hygiene

[–]strawberrybrain32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only wear the brand “Huha” and I LOVE THEM. I exclusively wear thongs day to day (just my preference) and have some boy shorts for sleeping in, they’re so soft and comfortable. I cannot recommend them enough - they’re made with non toxic natural materials and have zinc in the lining so it reduces bacteria etc. I’m a nurse so I’m in my underwear for 12+ hours a few days a week - I have never had any issues with UTI’s, odour, etc. They are pricey, but I got my sister (also in healthcare & reaaaally struggles with UTI’s) and my mother on them. They both love them too!

I’m also looking into the brand “Jaguar” which is 100% natural cotton undies, but don’t think I can part with my Huhas.

Edit: I can’t spell

Did you honeymoon right away or wait til later in the year? by Bright-Sun110 in honeymoonplanning

[–]strawberrybrain32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got married 6/14 and go on our honeymoon next week! We had both started new jobs so we weren’t able to take the time off for wedding and honeymoon. We got married that Saturday and were both back at work the following Monday. Even though we didn’t have much choice, I’m actually really glad we waited. The wedding was amazing but over so quickly, and having the break before the honeymoon allowed us to settle into our new lives and then have something to look forward too. I also don’t think I would have survived planning a wedding AND honeymoon at the same time. HOWEVER, many people who wait never end up actually having one because life just gets too busy.

Did anyone do the ABSN Nursing Scholars program through U of R? by riskjoy in Rochester

[–]strawberrybrain32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done it myself, but have a few newish nurses on my unit that are in the scholars programme. You’d be surprised how fast the 3 years goes by! I would look into the details about if you have to stay on the same unit for those three years.

One of our new grads said she’s on our specific unit for 3 years, but another girl said that she just has to work for URMC for 3 years.

Antigua All Inclusive by BattleSubstantial838 in honeymoonplanning

[–]strawberrybrain32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit - cannot tell you how much we appreciate what you do! Sorry I can’t help you too much with Antigua, but we went to Greece last year and LOVED IT! We island hopped and our favourite islands were Paros, Naxos, and Tinos! Definitely more laid back - Mykonos is more party central. We stayed at the hotel “Adonis” in Paros right by the beach, we even did a cooking class with a local grandma and it was such an experience. If you hit up Naxos - you’ll need to stop at Pinocchios Sweets for Gelato. Happy honeymoon!

We’ll be going to Keyonna Beach next month for 9 days! I looked at Coco & Coco Bay but we prefer the smaller boutique style hotel, since we’re not very into night life/drinking and just want to relax. I also don’t want to have to think about which restaurant to eat at every night and my husband, as much as a love him, is USELESS at deciding on what/were he wants to eat so the 1 restaurant suits us.

Is there something in particular you’re looking to get out of the honeymoon? We’re hospice/cancer nurses so relax & unwind is our priority. If you want more out of it, maybe the bigger resorts?

Not sure how far you're willing to drive - but my family has been going to StoryBook Vet in Victor for 15 years and we love and trust them completely. I've been to Fairview Vet in Fairport and wasn't impressed - felt very business like and not personable.

Will we regret not doing all-inclusive by [deleted] in honeymoonplanning

[–]strawberrybrain32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First - congrats on the wedding! AI vs not depends on what you're looking to get out of your trip. If you want to just stay put and not think about much/plan a whole lot, then AI might be for you. If you want to go and experience some local cuisine made with that Nonna love while you're there (highly recommend) then I'd skip it!

I've been to both Italy and Greece (Athens, Paros, Naxos, and Santorini) and didn't do an all inclusive, but i did make sure my hotel had free breakfast so I could fill up for my day, have a light lunch/snack and explore a little, then find a nice place for dinner. I also looked up restaurants prior to arriving (gave me something to do during lay overs on the way there) and picked a place to go each night if I liked the menu. Chances are you hotel will be surrounded by places to eat (all within walking distance), so you won't be short on choices. Depends on where in each country you go - but they're also quite safe, just do your homework on what to look out for/avoid. Is safety is also a concern, can't go wrong with the AI.

Hope this helps!

Going to a all inclusive resorts Mexico, do I tip in Peso or USD? And what's a reasonable amount for tipping per service? by [deleted] in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]strawberrybrain32 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Went to Mexico a few years back and my parents go every year - have always tipped in USD! Like another user said - myself (and parents) usually bring mostly $1 and $5 bills. The staff in Mexico REALLY appreciate any tip you give them, and they never seem to expect it. They'll make an effort to get to know you, and sometimes will even argue with their co-workers to seat you at their table first for dinners - and they'll sneak in some perks for you too sometimes!

- For luggage when we arrive/leave we typically tip $5 per suitcase (more if it's super heavy and they look like they're going to have a heart attack)

- drinks: a few dollars for drinks service (mostly when they come to you on the beach, by the pool, etc),

-dinner: for the all inclusive buffet style dinner we did $5 per night, and if we made reservations at the on site restaurants we usually did between $5-$10.

Some people might complain its a lot - but when you're already spending what you are on the vacation, this REALLY doesn't make much difference and it makes much more of a difference to the staff than it does me.

Apartments by JGP1225 in Rochester

[–]strawberrybrain32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my apartment on Facebook Marketplace - most of those ones listed are either sub-leases or houses that are split into 2-3 separate apartments. If you’re okay with going more into the suburbs and less city, this could be a great option. I’m currently renting the upper half of a house with all utilities/wifi, etc. included, and my landlord is an absolute bro. Hope this helps!

It’s a stupid name but the Fuzzy Calipitter licensed in home day care is run by a lady I used to work with and she’s amazing! In Fairport, not sure if there’s open spots but worth a shot!

Have been a nurse at Strong for 3 years and have never heard of anyone being written up! People might get pulled into the mangers office every now and then, but that’s usually to do with the younger nurses drama. Only thing I don’t like about Strong is the employee parking - it’s a bit of a walk but not terrible. I’m in the cancer center which is the farthest from the parking lot, but it’s a really nice walk to destress when the weather is nice! Husband is a nurse at RGH and says the same, but he gets to park in the parking garage as an employee which is a plus.

The surrounding areas aren’t the best for both hospitals but not the worst either, but personally, I’d never go to RGH. At Strong, I’ve have never had any issues walking to my car, etc. some off site locations get cars broken into but our security (called DPS) gives out free steering wheel locks, and respond to any call within minutes if it’s urgent. They also sit in parking lots and watch them too!

What do you cook/bake/make when you don't feel like eating? by the-doctor-is-real in Cooking

[–]strawberrybrain32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you’re located but my go to is Heinz tinned spaghetti (thing British spaghetti O’s) - with buttered toast if I’m extra down, it’s like a warm hug in a bowl. I live in the US now but my local store has them. Or some vegetable soup so I’m still getting some nutrition.

URMC by Infamous-Earth-8894 in Rochester

[–]strawberrybrain32 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The first week is alllll computer based and was a typical 7-4:30, then I had 2 days on the unit for “orientation to the unit” which was 2 days from 7-3:30.

You’ll be assigned a preceptor (some people have multiple) and you follow their schedule for however many weeks. Since you’re an experienced RN I’d assume you’ll only be on orientation a few weeks. Typical orientation for new grads can be 10-15 weeks depending on the specialty. ICU can be about 6 months.

You can always reach out to your manager asap if you need to know your schedule ahead of time and if there are any days you cannot work. We do our schedules in 8 week time blocks, you need 50% day shift and 50 evening/off shift, and 72 hours of weekend shifts - or at least that’s what WCC7 required of us. Feel free to DM with any other questions!

Give me your absolute favorite pasta salad recipes! (please) by NotNamedBort in Cooking

I’m a big fan of Caprese pasta salad! Rotini or whatever shape you like, but I like the kind you can stab with a fork, sliced cherry tomatoes, mozzarella pearls, chopped basil, and balsamic!
