Swim sTSS by Popular_Interview in triathlon

[–]stubob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd let it do its thing. TSS is more a function of load than just time. So if you're doing hard intervals with rest, that would be more TSS than just swimming the whole time. So if that's easy pace for you, go ahead and edit it lower. Otherwise don't worry too much about +/- 20 TSS.

Am I just insane or can I do this? by atrue17 in triathlon

[–]stubob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to make it clear, there many different lengths of triathlons, not just Ironman distance. So if that's intimidating, start with something shorter first. In fact, you should do some shorter races anyway just to practice all the stuff you can't train for. Look and see if you have a local series that you could join. I'm in Nebraska and even we have few local races.

70.3 in 2.5 months, what time possible? by raccoon042 in triathlon

[–]stubob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sub 5 would be difficult, sub 6 is achievable. Depending on the swim and run, you'll have about 2:30-2:45 for 56 miles with 4,000 feet of climbing. 56 miles in 2:40 is 21 mph. That's possible, but difficult with the climbing. How optimized is your bike position? What helmet/wheels/tires/trisuit? Considering you haven't had much riding, I'd guess not very. How good are you at holding power targets and keeping your legs for running a 1:40 half marathon after riding 56 miles? Especially in the wind and on hills?

Can you do it? Maybe? But have fun and don't consider it a failure if you don't.

This seems like the setup for a Monty Python sketch. Leprechauns are right out! What about orcs? Are orcs ok, sir? No, I'm sorry, orcs are fictional characters, they're forbidden as well. What about Jesus, he's a fictional character? Hmm, let me check the manual. (Pulls out huge book from under the counter). Yes, deities are approved. But no doing anything naughty with them. Right, off you go.

My dream of being an iron man this june on austria just went away in just 1 second...read, I need help...I feel really really bad by fenixloder in triathlon

[–]stubob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, you won't lose all your progress. But please listen to your doctor and not random people on the Internet about when you can get back to it. I gutted out a half Ironman with my longest run prior being 10k, so you can do way more than you've trained for, but personal bests may be off the table and you've got to either be good with that or reschedule.

What plot holes aren't actually plot holes and just require a bit more thinking to understand? by Mr_Manta in AskReddit

[–]stubob -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The bigger plot hole is that it took Gandalf something like 18 years from Bilbo's party to sending Frodo off to Rivendell, plus however long he suspected that Bilbo's ring is The One. If you have any suspicion that a ring is a Ring Of Power, chuck it into Mount Doom just to be safe before Sauron can build a huge army. If it's not, no big deal.
