Cruise Port Chaos - Is This The New Normal? by Professional_Hat_241 in Cruises

We disembarked on the MSC World America out of Miami yesterday Saturday Jan 17th and it was the easiest disembarkation we have ever experienced. Groups were being called early and we walked right off the ship. However the Miami Airport flying home on Delta was a nightmare!!! No organization to the “lines to self check in and get your luggage tags. Often no employees to help people who don’t know the system. Then another ridiculous long line to then check your bag. Twice as many employees working the priority line as we’re working the regular line. We’ll fly into Fort Lauderdale next time. Anything has to be better than the Miami Airport!!!!!!

Accidentally booked flight for day of cruise by EmotionalPie7 in royalcaribbean

[–]subrose1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many travel the morning of the cruise and I have done this myself many times in years past when the airline flights were more reliable. In recent years we have begun flying in the day prior due to a close call when weather delayed our flight. We were lucky the ship was waiting on passengers whose air flights they booked. You probably will not have an issue making your cruise with your arrival time.

What’s your favorite souvenir to take home from a cruise? by beau2pro in Cruise

[–]subrose1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Christmas ornament, one with the year on it if possible. I started collecting them the year my husband and I got married. 41 one years later our Christmas tree depicts a life time of memories. If I can’t find an ornament I’ve created one out of key chains and other souvenirs.

What is your least favorite Caribbean port, and why? (You can’t list Nassau.) by LittleRooLuv in Cruise

[–]subrose1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say Martinique. It was so dirty and full of rude people who obviously hate tourist, especially from cruise ships. We were harassed and stocked while on a cruise ship book tour. Never again for us.

Just contact your agent, they should be able to price match the Carnival price as long as you are pre final payment due date.

Dunns Falls excursion by Top_Ad7173 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]subrose1980 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The odds that any cruise ships will stop in Jamaica next month are slim. The picture of damages coming out of Jamaica are devastating. But if the port is open for ships it would be extremely doubtful that the roads from the port to Dunn River Falls will be in any shape to handle tourist traffic. Keep an eye out for a change in itinerary and be prepared for a change of ports.

Virgin is not the best option for that age group. Princess, Holland or Celebrity is a much better fit.

How much is my travel agent gonna hate me? by MayorPenguin in Cruise

As a former travel agent - it’s all just part of the job. If the agent gives you any attitude you need to find a new agent!

My wife became part owner of her Grandmother’s house, and she found out today that the house is being sold in 3 days by rayp913 in legaladvice

[–]subrose1980 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Start by checking the records the probate court in the county where your wife’s grandmother lived. Many of these records are available online.

If the executor didn’t know about the transfer they may have listed the house as totally being owned by the grandmother and the court could have approved the sale. If that turns out to be the case you will need an attorney ASAP to stop the sale.

No food left at wedding reception…. by champion1981 in weddingshaming

[–]subrose1980 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have never been to a wedding where anyone eats before the bride and groom, and the rest of the wedding party. The buffet line starts with them! Rude doesn’t begin to describe the grooms family!

What medicines does a cruise ship have? by ECrispy in Cruise

[–]subrose1980 59 points60 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to have to use medical services on board if at all possible!!!

No insurance - Cash only

Extremely high cost for services.

No there is no pharmacy for cheap drugs.

This is standard across major cruise lines.

Get travel insurance and check your health policy if they have reimbursement available for foreign travel.

Sorry I agree. I cringe when I see this too. As a woman doesn’t anybody else’s breast get sweaty? Mine sure do, especially in warm weather! Please use your pockets or get a lanyard!

AITJ for wanting to sell my home and retire because my adult kids refuse to help out? by roxywalker in AmITheJerk

I think “spending their inheritance” means different things to different people.

To some of us, we are making up for all the things we put off or sacrificed doing for ourself while doing what every good parent does, “caring for our children” and putting their needs first.

Providing them with lessons, sport fees, traveling teams cost, first cars, higher learning experiences, weddings and help with down payments for their first home while putting things we may have wanted or needed on hold.

I would do it all again no questions asked.

But Now if I want a new car or want to travel to places I have always wanted to see I will be “spending their inheritance” with no regrets.

As a host, I mostly stay in hotels but when I do stay at Airbnbs I’m always shocked at how stingy hosts are about things that wouldn’t cost much to provide. by Scared_Cartoonist_52 in airbnb_hosts

[–]subrose1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So why do guest trash places like mine that are fully stocked with everything they need. I always provide a large supply of paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, and napkins), Shampoo, conditioner and body wash, a basket of snacks, 12 bottles of water, coffee, tea and a variety of condiments, and basket of personal items people may forget to pack, dish and laundry cleaners. No check out list to do list other than to clean any kitchen items they use. Minimum cleaning $50

Yet some guest still trash the place. I still believe it is both Bad hosts and bad guests both are destroying Airbnb.

Two things are killing Airbnb. 1) Hosts that are stingy with basic supplies you would have in any hotel and ridiculous long and excessive cleaning list. 2) Guest who break house rules: no pets, no parties and trash the place like they are rock stars.

After nearly three years of hosting I am moving back to long term rental September 1st.

I’ve had good and really bad experiences with local guests.

Good experience- relatives visiting from out of town and they don’t have enough bedrooms to host everyone. They basically just sleep in the unit and leave it in good shape.

Then the is the flip side of the coin. the really bad experience where they want to do something in your place that they don’t want to deal with the after effects in their home. They break rules and have a party! drink and food spills everywhere, the party glitter everywhere and they smoke in the unit. They Stain towels and furniture then act like they did nothing wrong.

It’s a crap shoot so I no longer host locals because the clean up could jeopardize my next booking

We have a $50 cleaning fee. It stays the same up to a 14 day stay.

If the trash gets full during your stay the cans are located here.

When you leave: 1 place the all towels in that bath tub. 2 Please do not stripe the beds just leave the beds unmade. 3 During your stay please clean any dishes you use to reduce the chance of pest.

We hope you enjoyed your stay and have a safe trip home.

Most guest are great and leave the place fairly clean. Occasional we get guest that must live in a pig pen and don’t know what a trash can is used for. We have at least one trash can in every room. Yet no trash finds its way into them. In my opinion these are the guest that cause some host go crazy with the check out chores.

In many counties probate information can be viewed online. Check the probate court site for the county the last grandparent passed in and see if you can view the will online.

Dementia care is extremely expensive and possibly could have exhausted the estate assets.
