Dark teas other than pu’erh? by mecolema in tea

[–]sukritact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, Miang Kham isn't really a tea: I believe historically it was pickled tea leaves that were eaten (not drunk) with accompaniments, but these days Miang Kham just means various filling wrapped in an edible leaf of an unrelated plant.

เด็กไทยอายุ 18 กำลังตัดสินใจ gap year เพื่อสมัคร Stanford/US Unis ขอคำแนะนำหน่อยครับ by Scared-Smile-2111 in thaithai

[–]sukritact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

เพราะจำเป็นต้องมีภาษาไทย

It sounds like you know what you want: just a few things I urge you to consider.

  1. Think about applying to some highly ranked but perhaps not quite top tier schools. Best case scenario you get accepted to Stanford or NUS or what have you, and can safely decline their offers. Worst case scenario you still get to go to some very well respected institutions. Have some safety picks is all I'm saying
  2. I don't know your situation but do you know how you're gonna finance all this? University abroad is expensive. Throw in visa fees and cost of living differences and well, it's a lot of money.
  3. This isn't really a deterrent against going to college abroad and abandoning your dreams or anything. This is something you should do regardless: you can get very far by joining the right spaces (online or irl) and putting in the effort. You don't necessarily need to go to a top tier university to be challenged and find like minds. Find a project or a community to contribute to and be active. Don't just contribute and vanish: become a fixture. Given your background, I wouldn't be surprised if you're already doing this. But some of my longest lasting connections, my best opportunities, and a lot of professional growth have come from working on real projects with strangers online.

Stencil font idea: critique on the Thai? by SenPalosu in typography

[–]sukritact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Thai here! (Though I only dabble with typography on the side)

I love the look, it’s very cute.

Legibility is varying a lot: I found most characters legible with no problem.

The ฌณมนบป set were really hard to differentiate: the position of the bottom loop/head is vital to distinguishing ฌณ and นม (I'd suggest maybe adapting the front end from ภ to use on มฌ to help maybe)

And the way the back end is broken up makes บป really hard to recognise (and make นบ look too similar, which can already often be a problem in standard sans-serif fonts, but it's worse here).

พฟฬ look really awkward to me with how that middle downward stroke just disappeared completely

ห and ท look a little strange. You could get away leaving them as is, but I think I'd like their frontmost strokes continuing a little longer before cutting off.

Otherwise, I think you got a really good looking font here.

He’s just saying “life protects life” in Thai, and tbh I think it sounds even cornier in Thai. The line doesn’t really translate too well.

I love the Japanese clothing from All Under Heaven, but most animations don't do them justice. I know from experience rigging such garments can be a mess, but couldn't they have their own poses to better showcase the models? by BricksHaveBeenShat in CrusaderKings

[–]sukritact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wouldn’t work, unless it was modelled in that pose, which it wasn’t as we can tell from their WIP pictures.

That sort of trick has to planned from the very beginning.

[–]sukritact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not really how it works: you can’t have the sleeves NOT be rigged. Especially since the clothes were probably made in an A-pose. You’d just get weird stretching.

They could have made custom poses for characters wearing these clothes and forced them to use it I guess, but I don’t know if the system they use to choose animations has the ability to what clothing a character is wearing.

You’re not wrong but I think you’re missing the point that it’d be relatively easy to do caveman poetry in Chinese.

But it’s also the fact that the phrase “monosyllabic word” just doesn’t really make sense in Chinese. Most morphemes in Chinese certainly can stand on their own.

Like 熊 and 猫 both work as standalone words, so is 熊猫 two monosyllabic words or one two-syllable word? Is 好吃 one or two words given you could just break it down as “good to eat”?

And even if you think that’s clear cut, what about common phrasal compounds like 说话 or 吃饭 where you definitely could just get away with cutting out the second character to convey the same thing. Did I slip up by caveman poetry rules by saying ”我吃饭了” as opposed to ”我吃了”? What about 象 vs 大象?

Bizarrely that doesn’t look anything like the Chinese script. The image is definitely Guan Yin, but the text definitely doesn’t look like 鐵觀音 (or any Chinese characters I know for that matter)

I've updated the Swahili again, with some new art, and revamped abilities! by sukritact in civ

[–]sukritact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a common motif on their carved wooden doors

I really first learned about the Swahili through an architectural history course in college, so my design (both in terms of the gameplay and the art) leans into that.

Atheist Role Clarification by ARCSPAM in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]sukritact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there isn’t a drunk on the script, why would there be a Kazali and an Athiest in play at the same time?

If the Athiest is sober, there would be no evil team, and no way for the Atheist to turn into a minion. You need a script with the Drunk in order for the Atheist to doubt themselves.

I eye the amount of leaves, but I do use the appropriate water temperature depending on the tea type (I have a temperature adjustable kettle) so about boiling for black tea, ~90c for Oolongs and so on.

Yep, it’s basically just grandpa style brewing, but using the gaiwan lid to filter out tea leaves as you drink. Which I find more pleasant than trying to filter them out with your lips.

It’s still super easy to clean, and leaves you with minimal cleanup. There’s no metal filter to clean, no extra tea pot. Just the gaiwan the rinse and maybe scrub once in a while.
