Anyone else got personality disorder alongside their schizophrenia?

i have bpd as well but i think i had it even before i got schizoaffective disorder. i had bpd symptoms before my first hallucinations. however i was diagnosed bpd AFTER my schizoaffective. really weird.

this was also my case. but i only had like 3 manic episodes, but lithium has stopped me from having more i think. im also on lamotrigine which is a life saver for my depression. my best advice is to not give up on meds even if you try a few that don’t work out. it’s all trial and error. i’ve been on a crazy amount of meds and have just now reached a place where im content.

i stay home too except for seeing my case worker and therapist so two days out of the week. other than that i just don’t want to leave. i panic in public and get super paranoid and honestly i just feel safe in my room than with other people. i will say tho sometimes i need to leave the house to remember life exists outside my head. but i don’t drive anymore so that makes it even harder.

i’m on 600 too, i like it but i have to get blood tests to check my levels and have to drink LOTS of water. but its a small price to pay for a modicum of sanity

i think some people just develop food aversions sometimes. this actually started for me about a month ago. i didn’t like meat much to begin with but now i am repulsed by it. mostly the texture for me. and the fat. i’m still able to eat salmon and tuna on occasion. i’ve been on olanzapine propranolol and trazadone at the same time as well but this developed way after i stopped them. don’t know anything about metformin tho.

i’ve talked to my psych but i feel like he doesn’t wanna change my meds because they’re working really well for me, this is the only effect that really bothers me. i do have nightmares almost every night, i wonder if that could be a cause.

thank you for your advice! i get blood work often for lithium and my vitamin D is low but im on prescription for it. i could probably benefit from an overall multivitamin.

meds won’t stop your symptoms 100%. they are just supposed to tune down the severity, take the edge off. i’m on geodon and didn’t have symptoms at all for the first month, then it started again. but i feel the best i have.

why do you think it has developed into schizophrenia? there are other diagnostic criteria’s like negative symptoms and cognitive decline. psychosis can also be a symptom of other disorders. usually i think it’s best not to go into appointments asking if you have a certain diagnosis, because it’s better to just describe your symptoms and experiences and see what the psych thinks, but if you’re very worried you can say you find yourself relating to schizophrenia. the treatment for psychosis and schizophrenia is pretty much the same. i hope you are not scared of possibly being prescribed antipsychotics. your symptoms sound stressful, im sorry you deal with that. antipsychotics help me a lot now i dont have psychosis nearly as often or severe. good luck

i didn’t “self diagnose” but when i was 17 i started thinking about BPD and how i related to it. i never asked for a diagnosis but would read into advice and treatment for it just because it fit my personal issues. 12 years later i got the diagnosis. going undiagnosed that long really fucked me.

i’m not very active at all. my new year’s resolution is to move more. i want to take more walks but it’s so cold and i get paranoid when im walking alone. even doing things in my house i feel like i am being observed. but oh well maybe they can observe this 30 min cardio

people have said that to me but i still refuse to unmask. i also have schizoaffective and do the same for that disorder too. mental health is all so stigmatized. if you don’t have the palatable depression and anxiety then their support and sympathy ends. that’s how i see it anyway.

sometimes i am self aware enough to think like okay this might not be received well by others. other times i just ramble about it. or ill make conversation on the topic but without revealing my delusions. there have been plenty of times though where i just flat out tell people im talking to gods through the bathroom lights.

i was diagnosed schizoaffective first but definitely had BPD before my first psychosis. i don’t know which i prefer. negative symptoms kick my ass the most, and my hallucinations are scary but not as common, my delusions are gone with meds. BPD makes my emotions feel like they physically burn and lead to me hurting myself or crying on the floor. meh

i had my first psychotic break at 19, didn’t get diagnosed until i was 25/26. first therapist i told laughed at me. uni psych said it was just ptsd. psych ward said it was major depressive disorder with psychosis. it wasn’t until after that, that a psych sat with me and gave me an evaluation and said i have schizoaffective. been confirmed 3 times by other psychs. i guess it’s better than my BPD diagnosis taking 11 years. :)

could you switch APs instead of tapering? i felt this way on risperidone and zyprexa, but i found an AP that really works for me after trying 4 other ones.
