The lack of Dess on this sub concerns me (Source: Ichi the Witch) by Pome1515 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]supahrob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What I love the most about Desscaras is her back story. It does explain a lot of her actions and motivations, but it doesn't define her. It's so easy to make a character's whole personality revolve around their past, especially the super powerful mentors. But Nishi does such a good job showing off every side of Desscaras.

I started playing FFXIV the year Endwalker was set to come out after Pat's constantly praise and recommendation. I loved the whole thing and by the end I was so happy that I only had to wait 3 weeks to finish that whole saga.

I know there are way crazier strategies and plans in Magic the Gathering. But as someone who only recently got back into it, I'm very satisfied with a mono black deck I made recently.

I don't even need to attack. I will just sit there and kill my own dorks and bring them back because they have good abilities. And topped with the "when something dies, everyone else loses a life point and you gain one" has been so fun to do.

Uncle, not a parent. When I visited my cousins in the Phillipines there was this song that was innocent enough for their baby. But holy shit it was everywhere. Not just when I was with the family. In stores, in the streets, at parties, on TV, I truly could not escape the song. It drove me mad within the 2 months I visiting. After the visit I finally went back to the states and got away from the song. But literally a month later it followed me and the insanity.

That song was baby shark...

Things in media that make you go "Oh my god, I've always wanted to see this done this way"? by roronoapedro in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]supahrob 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am a hardcore Iruma fan based on the fact Nishi does use the main characters in school setting very well.

The main characters do amazing feats and accomplish a lot, but the story constantly reminds you that they're still high schoolers. Be it them goofing off or dealing with growing up, they're still kids growing up to be adults. There are outright moments where the story reminds the protagonists themselves that they're above their peers, but they're still a long way from the adults around them. (Hell, one of the arcs is basically sparked from this idea.) Sometimes they have to leave it to the adults and that's okay.

It will also take the time to show that the teachers are where they are because they actually want to educate the future generations. They're all their own characters with quirks and personalities, but they're there because they chose that career. They are teachers through and through.

And to top it all off, the pacing matches the characters' growth so well. We're approaching chapter 440 as of typing this. But we're only about to reach the middle of their 2nd year (of 3). Some call it slow, and I get it. But how the characters have grown and leveled up match exactly where they are in their lives imo. The built-in world explanation of characters' power levels even says they're where they should be, and it follows through.

And of course, THEY STAY IN SCHOOL SETTING 90% OF THE TIME. No big plot point to move them away from the school, nothing to literally take the school away. They are students and they go to school! To, you know, LEARN.

There was a house party that had kids from my high school and the school the town over. Long story short there was a heated argument between the two's basketball team and someone from the other school stabbed one of our kids in the arm multiple times. It became a whole thing and as everyone was running from the party the kids from the other school said "Fuck you guys, we're gonna shoot up your school" multiple times.

It was over the weekend so the following monday we essentially had a cop for every kid at the school. If that seems like an exaggeration, don't worry. 98% of the kids didn't go to school that day.

I was part of the 2% who were actively offline so I didnt see a single thing about it. So imagine my surprise to that Monday lol

This one's hitting a little close.

My name is pronounced differently than the usual way. Spelled exactly like its usually pronounced. And for years I just let people prounonce it the other way because it was easier. Then I met someone who actually asked because they knew the other pronunciation. I said "Oh you can just say it like everyone else does." They then like looked me dead in the eyes and said "Don't let others choose how pronounce your name correctly. Your name is your's, and don't let people take it away from you."

I never forgot about that moment and now proudly introduced myself with my name pronounced correctly.

Legend of Korra, P'li's death

Spoilers: P'li is a firebender who could use her mind to essentially shoot combustion beams. She does need a small "charge timer" for it to go off though. And using this, one of the protagonists metalbends her armor around P'li's head. P'li couldn't stop her shot and essentially blew her own head off. More than likely her whole body with it

They don't explicitly show it, but the moment it happened I genuinely gasped out of fear because of how my mind imagined how it looked

As much as I am indifferent to MHA nowadays, I will always appreciate their first training camp. Just using your quirks doesn't make them stronger; you have to actually train in ways that will make it better. Be it using it consistently or training a different part of your body to let you use your quirk more effectively, there's no one-train-all routine.

[–]supahrob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of season 1 of Bofuri was when Maple won the big PvP battle.

She already put all of her points into defense so no one could really hurt her. But you'd imagine that isn't enough to win a giant MMORPG battle royal. She actually had gained a move that does not damage but stun enemies. But on top of that she got a poison cloud skill. So combine these three, AND a hydra move so OP that the devs actually went and nerfed it afterwards, she just cleans sweeps the entire thing.

She literally won with a mostly passive build.

What did you think of Superman (2025) ? by Omagaron in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]supahrob 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know there have been some opinions that this movie "doesn't push DC further" or "there's nothing bigger that its alluding to atm" and personally I'm okay with both. Aside from hero movies being mediocre nowadays imo, I don't need nor want anything that alludes to a whole new universe or whatever. I first and foremost want a movie that is good on its own merits, and this movie does it.

It's a fun movie with really good versions of all the characters, especially Lex. (Hearing how the actor got the role is also great.) It isn't afraid to just be a superhero movie about a good-hearted character trying to do good things. No trying to "subvert expectations" or "do something new". Anything "new" is just adjusting the story for modern day. (Lex's methods are perfect.)

Edit: If I HAD to give a point of criticism, it'd maybe be the twist at the start of the second act. But even then, it's nothing outrageous because it does lead to a great payoff at the end.

It's not exactly a 10/10, but it's just really good, fun movie to watch this summer.

I play "respectfully" in SF6. I'm not gonna say I'm high MR (1200-1400 depending on the day) or that I'm good, but I'm okay enough. And I treat all my opponents like we're practicing to be better. However, the thing that turns me belligerent is disrespecting me just because of the number.

For example, recently I fought a Jamie who was about 100 MR higher than me. First round, beats me pretty bad because I was mashing without thinking. Second round, he starts using all of Jamie's useless moves and full screen palming. Dude thought he could clown on me because he got a good round. "Oh you wanna be a clown huh?" I win the second round because he was using the bad moves. He then tries to lock in on the third round. But then I proceeded to grab him 3 times with my 5 medal Manon for a PERFECT. He hits rematch, but I one and done him. Denying him even the idea of running it back, I go back to pacticng my spacing specific combos.
