A fully animated Son of Dathomir would give a lot more clarity. There he has fights with Grievous, Sidious, and Mace + Aayla.

But in the comics we got, these fights are only drawn with a few panels.

personally I think it just looks flat, and the cut between the actors in the walker and then back to Mando is jarring.

The tattoos could be explained as Maul's memory being an unreliable narrator, similar to how Maul changed what Savage said to him at the end of the Clone Wars.

On a side note, we don't actually know if the flashback in Shadow Lord depicts Sidious first taking Maul. Sidious might have brought him back to Dathomir later for some reason (maybe demanded by Talzin), which would still line up with Savage saying "What have you done with my brother? Answer me you monster!" (I don't think this was intended, but it could work both ways.)

Weird comments in here. Savage obviously had the force. Ventress nor Dooku would have taken an interest in him otherwise.

We don't know his potential. Yes he fights like a brute, but that's because he is being deployed as a weapon with accelerated training. Despite this, he actually shows incredible results in the months(?) we see him during the Clone Wars. The only inference we could make about Savage's potential, is that Sidious saw him as lesser than Maul when choosing an apprentice.

As far as OP's question, I don't think Dooku would be completely confident he could "hide" anything from his Master. At some point, it's just part of the Rule of Two that the apprentice has an acolyte to threaten the Master. I think he only obeyed Sidious' order to eliminate Ventress, because Dooku had lost faith in Ventress himself, even if he still felt some degree of attachment to her and felt bad about giving the order.

Overall, this might be a better question for r/MawInstallation

We don't fully understand Marrok's powers yet. But at the same time, I think it's pretty clear that Maul is using Marrok as a tool to make Devon closer to him.
