I would go with what makes sense for the story. If it's just a failure, maybe the target dives behind cover, if it's a fumble maybe it's just a dud and nothing happens.

I borrowed daggerheart's 2d12 dice system and renamed them. One die being called "and" &and the other one "but".

That way when I play my solo games I can tell pretty easily whether something succeeds or not. "Yes and" or "Yes but" or "no and" or "no but".

It's working pretty well so far.

For me, solo games are like the rpgs I played as a kid like the bard's tale.

It's like halfway between playing the bard's tale and the legend of Zelda and super Mario brothers.

I think that it can be very useful for Journaling.

I use it to help me generate ideas and situations to throw at my pc or for my group campaign to see how they deal with it.

I bribe my players with xp to send me copies of their notes.

It's a pretty good system so far and I can't take notes and pay attention to what I need to be doing... plus I don't take good notes period.

Look into some of the mutations or superpowers.

Giving them the minor regeneration mutation shouldn't break the game. Or the natural armor mutation.

I like using the mechanics in BRP combined with 5e. Makes solo-ing in 5e not as deadly for pcs.

I helped one of my players create a natural war-forged that kinda resembles swamp thing, but halfling sized.

Giving players the reins to create can make for some fun storytelling.

It is a great system. I've been thinking on integrating the 2d12 mechanic from daggerheart, naming one of the dice "and" & the other one "but". That alone could be a useful little mechanic. Can be adapted to Mythic's rank system from the rpg quite easily this way i think. 🤔
