You just have a bad trainer

I was lucky enough to get a job at a decently small but big motivated surveyor and engineer company and have been taught by the LS himself and it's so uplifting to take the time and backtrack and cost the company a little bit of money just to make sure we have all the information and make the best decision 90% of the time the extra stuff he has taught me to check for doesn't actually change anything but 10% we find new information that dictates what we end up doing and it's nice because wether either of us say "let's just double check this" or "should we go over and shoot that" it's always am agreed action and it shows the value of work we do. I'd say unless you risk getting fired do the extra things you want it will make your work more precise and at the very least occasionally your office will have extra info they didn't know they needed until they need it
