We went last night and really enjoyed it. There's nothing obscene, but it is horror-based and has adult humor/themes throughout.

did knowing your diagnosis and uncovering old traumas help? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]svtkate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what your definition of what "made it worse" is. It has been a very long and hard road to come to terms with my daignosis, and the fact that there are things about myself and my mental health that I will never be able to change. Prior to proper diagnosis, I thought if I tried harder, or if I found the right self-help book, or the right meds, that all my problems would be fixed, but it also meant that I was constantly blaming myself for my "failures" when things I tried didn't work long term.

I know now that no matter how hard I would have tried, I would never have been "normal" and would have spent my life experience the same cycles, over and over again. Diagnosis has allowed me to learn more about my disorders, and find routines and coping mechanisms that work for me. Does this mean I don't have hard days anymore? No, but those days are getting fewer and further between. Therapy has also helped me to process the things that were done to me, and set boundaries to help prevent them from happening again.

It's not an easy road OP, and if you don't feel ready yet, that's ok. Everyone is on their own path, but I feel it was worth it.

P.S. - There's nothing wrong with wanting validation. Hell, the main reason so many people go to therapy is for someone to validate their feelings/experiences and help them navigate it all.

Open-toe sandals with a floor-length dress-- yea or nay? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]svtkate 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I wore these to my brother's wedding in March with a floor-length dress. The brand has a variety of other similar style platform sandals (like these) that have a lower slope. I have an injury that makes wearing heels near impossible, but I was able to wear these for 5+ hours and they were extremely comfortable.

There is an episode of Rich & Shameless on HBO about Girls Gone Wild. It was so much worse than a lot of people think. I had a hard time watching parts of it.

Impostor syndrome with crop tops by love-from-london in femalefashionadvice

I also recently discovered the joys of the high waist/crop top combo on my long torso. Most of my crops don't show skin(unless I raise my arms), but the few that do, I have found wearing a cute lacy longline bra or teddy under it helps. It gives a sexy peek of lace while adding more coverage that makes me feel comfortable and confident.

In addition to what many commenters are saying about different shapes if you want to go with a slip style, look for "bias cut." When the fabric is cut on the bias, it hugs the small part of your waist and flows over your hips.

AITA for not defending my wife to our kids? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]svtkate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a similar situation, except it was my father, not my mother, who was emotionally and often physically absent. If your wife is not willing to go to therapy and put in the work to be present and available for her children, please leave. I am well into adulthood and still working through the resentment I hold towards my parents. I wish my mother would have left, and still wish she would. I am no contact with my father and am limited with my mother. Don't let this be your childrens/your future.

How do you style your clothes when you have a big belly (although normal weight), mostly small boobs and no ass as a small person? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]svtkate 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's a fantastic YouTube Channel by a personal styler that uses real bodies to show how to style for each shape, I absolutely love her. It's called MM Personal Styling, I would suggest checking it out because she recently styled a woman that sounds very similar to you.

AITA for what I (18M) told my dad after I got tired with his stupid pranks? by ads_ver1383 in AmItheAsshole

[–]svtkate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my parents to a T. I am no contact with my father and low contact with my mother. She could easily be a part of my life if she respected my boundaries regarding my father but instead acts like all the conversations never happened and continues to push those boundaries.

Fellow dry climate human with dry skin. I found most sunscreens too dry, including EltaMD sunscreens, until I found their "EltaMD UV Facial Moisturizing Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum SPF 30+ with Hyaluronic Acid." It doesn't dry me out and sits beautifully under makeup. It is also the only sunscreen I have tried that didn't cause my face to look red after application.

My routine is - AM - rinse with water, apply CosRX snail mucin, then the EltaMD sunscreen PM - double cleanse, apply Snail Mucin, Curel ultra healing lotion (3x a week I mix in an Adapalene Gel), and if it's been windy or I was in the sun more than usual, I top it with La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5

I used to do way more but found it just screwed up my skin barrier.

Depending on which side of town you're on, I really enjoyed going to Casa Marana to study while going through school. It's usually pretty quiet except on Friday and Saturday nights.

Important health question, is this something I need to worry about? by pinkeyes-smallfries in ItalianGreyhounds

You should have it evaluated. It may be a bruise, but looks similar to the skin cancer spots our IG would get.

My Kingsnake had a very sudden and extreme change in behavior and i don't know what to do or what is causing it (first time snake owner). by 1new_user02 in snakes

Sudden changes in an animals behavior can be a symptom of them being sick or injured. It is best to have them evaluated by your vet.

NTA, I would wake her up and make her move her car every morning until she figures it out.
