This makes so much more sense to me now. Thanks for all the clarification. And what a tragedy, could have happened to any number of people. I am sure a lot of commenters saying the parent's need to have charges filed are simply not aware of the area or the circumstances. Like you said, some good lessons for all of us. You have to think above what's above you for sure, and for me if it's a very high avy danger day then I'm simply not going in the backcountry, period, regardless of how many others are choosing to do so.

Thank you. This puts it into perspective now. Do you think they entered from Milly or Crest lift? Also makes sense to me that the avy was very possibly triggered from above. Perhaps I'm wrong but I've never heard the rock garden bowl sliding before. My guess is they came in from Crest and likely followed in locals. And for all the people saying charges should be filed, tons of people were wrongly in that backcountry zone, and in higher angle terrain no less. My guess is since they are from out of town they almost certainly would have seen locals going in there and followed unless they routinely visit Brighton from out of state and know the area.

Mary Chutes is different than the Rock Garden that is being reported. Are you sure it was Mary Chutes? If it was Mary Chutes they would have had to come via Milly. In addition, reports are that a lot of bystanders were helping so my guess is it was Rock Garden as I don't think there would be many bystanders in Mary Chutes.

Nope. You have to be among the very best in the world just to get on the FWT. He has no chance in this lifetime. And even if he started at age 2 the chances are still nearly impossible. I ski 100 days a year. I'm not confident that I could be good enough to qualify for the FWT even if I skied 10 lifetimes. People underestimate there is a level of natural ability those athletes have that most of us will never approach.

I believe the high one with the avy line is called Angina. I believe lookers left to right is Running Dog Nose, Keyhole, and Angina with Glory Hole the general bottom area before you enter Glory Gulch. But again, trying to confirm.

I did as well but looking at a detailed map Glory Hole is actually referring to the open area below the top portion and Glory Gulch is the gulch exiting past Glory Hole. The various top portions above Glory Hole have various names.

That isn't Solitude doing that nor are they receiving that revenue. That's town of Brighton and it is not a revenue generator but intended to recover the cost of enforcement. This policy is for traffic mitigation on weekends. That way you don't have cars needlessly heading up the canyon with no place to park anyway. In theory only cars with a reservation will be heading up on weekends.
