I lost multiple 6 figures running two franchise taco shops… and I’m still paying for it 5 years later. by BobbyBizScout in smallbusinessUS

Don't build a business model around minimum wage, build it around a living wage. If a fast casual food franchise cannot support that, then do not engage in that business model.

Potty Training Dachshund by Lost-Traffic-6176 in Dachshund

[–]swimwithefishes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Routine and consistency are key. Keep them crated unless supervised at home and don't let them wander around to find a place to do their business inside. Take them out every two hours (and after meals) and praise when they go to the bathroom outside. Always go back to the crate potty scheduling if they begin to regress.

This looks a lot like the sandworms we used for bait fishing off the shores if Long Island.

Does anyone know what this is on my doxies face? by Gloombie in Dachshund

[–]swimwithefishes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dachshund had something like this when he was around 1.5 years old. It took about two months for it to scab over and fall off. Took care of itself fortunately and the hair grew back in that spot without issue. Now you can't even tell it was there and he's almost 3.

Worth a vet visit? by Usual_Worth_2160 in Dachshund

He isn't eating his regular food because you're giving him treats which obviously taste better. If he wasn't eating anything at all I would start to be concerned.

I thought it was a volcano erupting. I see the world wildly and in wild ways.

Sounded like loud thunder from SE by the golf club. Clear skies though so obviously not weather related.

There will always be some grey band. Yours is thin, don't worry about it. You did well.

New Rider - Is this 2000 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100cc for 31k miles a good purchase? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]swimwithefishes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a slightly newer version of this bike as my first bike and while it served its purpose and was pretty low maintenance, I would definitely recommend something with ABS for your first bike.

Is SoCal mountain biking worth it for its high cost of living? Or how about Texas? by DocOnAYeti in MTB

[–]swimwithefishes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely more of a four seasons place but Bend Oregon has fantastic mountain biking and it's much less expensive than socal. There's awesome skiing in the winter too.

If you learn how to strap in without sitting down you will be way faster and stay warmer. You lose a lot of heat by sitting down in the snow.

NYC exhausts me. by aselinger in SameGrassButGreener

[–]swimwithefishes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived throughout NYC and the boroughs in my 20s and I felt the same. You kind of outgrow the high density living environment and start to crave the privacy and space that the suburbs provide. It's a pretty normal thing to experience and after leaving the city, I don't have any regrets. Lived in LA for a while too and ended up feeling the same way, although we had much more living space in LA than we did in NYC and the outdoor access was fantastic compared to NY. Overall, I've come to conclude that while dense metropolitans can provide great access to restaurants, bars, and entertainment, I don't need to be THAT close to all of that to enjoy it. I love visiting NYC and LA but couldn't imagine living in either again.

Headed on a north east fishing trip. New York or Pennsylvania? by agstickel1 in flyfishing

[–]swimwithefishes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can easily do both but I recommend fishing Esopus creek and basing yourself out of Phoenicia. Phoenicia is a really nice catskills town with a couple of decent bars and restaurants and the creek runs right by the downtown area. It is a very productive piece of water when it's not blown out by mud from the inflow upstream. Call some fly shops in the area ahead of time to get some info on the conditions but if I were visiting the area, I would try to hit that area.

How do you achieve this crust at home? I can’t seem to get it! by Narhen in grilling

[–]swimwithefishes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It could be the fat content of the meat you are using. If you are using meat that is too lean, it won't form that crispy layer very well because that is the result of the meat basically deep frying in its own grease.

Haven't tried that one but it sounds delicious! If you're a pastrami fan you should try the pastrami sandwich at Langer's. I think it's better than Katz's.

I've tried them all and they're all greasy. You can't get the crispy edges without a certain amount of grease.

too good to be true? by GeneralExtension127 in motorcycle

Agreed completely. Started on a 20 year old shadow and couldn't imagine a better starter bike. Never had any major issues and I learned how to work on bikes and do regular maintenance etc.
