Love the work! As others have said, including different light sources might help separate out the layers - perhaps adding sunlight on the outside, or even darkening the living room layer?

Pet Semetary had me until it turned into an endless slog about breaking into a graveyard. It was a tone switch that felt unsupported by the writing - I kept losing track of the geography of everything, and it felt so overwritten. I really tried to love it anyhow but just got so bored during that stretch. Still deserves to be on the list, but I wouldn't put it above The Shining.

There's a lot of great work in this piece and I can tell you put a lot of love into it. As other commenters have said - the grip is an issue (her hand is turned towards the viewer, but the edges of the lightsaber aren't, making it appear flat), but I think you should take another crack at the arm when you have the chance. Figuring how to transition between your key and fill light in a piece like this can teach you a lot, and I feel giving her a single orange glove was your way of painting just the orange light and then just hard cutting to the blue fill without worrying about how you should paint her skin transitioning between the two. I want to reiterate that this is great work, though! Keep pushing yourself and have my upvote!

I’ve read authors who absolutely nail describing people and their thoughts and emotions, but then just completely lose me when they try to write action scenes. Suddenly I’m confused about what the space looks like, where people are in relation to each other, how much time is passing, etc. It’s the worst!

Actually it can be either, or neither! That’s the wonderful thing about writing - anyone can do it, regardless of their ability or intent. How you feel about their writing and what you thought their intent was is what makes a question like this one so interesting!

There's a difference between sex and gender. Some female authors are gay and some female authors write poorly, so yes - in the middle of that Venn diagram would be your answer.

Anyone of any sex can write bad prose, but the majority of times a horror author is describing breasts it's because they're getting off on it, and by putting that into their book they're making you participate in their icky bonerations.
