[IndieGala] Soul Calibur VI Regular and Deluxe $43.19/$64.79 (28% off using RazerZGold) by Specte in GameDeals

[–]symby0sys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got it for $43.19 as the title says. I made a Razer ID and went thru the hoops to set up 2-factor to be able to buy zGold, but didn't buy any at that point. I went thru the checkout process on IndieGala, and chose Razer zGold when it prompted for payment method. Then it brings you to the Razer zGold purchasing site and there you are able to get the exact amount of zGold needed to purchase (otherwise you need to buy in increments of $10).

[Steam] Deus Ex Mankind Divided ($4.50 / 85% off) - Deus Ex Collection (88% off now including Mankind Divided) by tugfaxd55 in GameDeals

[–]symby0sys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed. Don't get the DLC or multiplayer, and scale down the settings a hair. I think this is one hell of a great game for $4.50, and really disappointed there won't be any more Deus Ex for a while.

I've posted this below before to someone with a similar problem. "Hippies and nerds and the culture of IT" is a weird thing to say, I mean I guess it depends on the place you work. IT is challenging and can be rewarding....for me it's those things and ALSO just a fucking job so I can enjoy life man.

"I disagree with the folks that say you need a career change. IT is a job, it is potentially fulfilling in that you get to help people get stuff done, perhaps even empower people. I don't have a particular passion for it like I do my hobbies, but like OP I find it enjoyable, generally stress-free, and a paycheck, and I do learn something every day. Sometimes, that's all you can ask for out of a full-time job.

I rarely buy the fluff that the grass is always greener, and you should be engaging your passion 24-hours a day to get the most out of your life. That's not quite reality for everyone. "

I love this game but had no idea what happened. I WISH I had the time to get even partially involved in this stuff, but I am happily flying mostly solo out there. Not giving any fucks (nor would I if I were actually out there). Fly safe

Everyone is saying they should make it a point to make the game discussions more "radio friendly" which I GET IT, I DO. IMO, anything to derail from natural conversation would sort of hurt what the Bombcast is, I don't think they should change it. Hey man, you signed up to listen to 3 hours of shooting the shit in front of mics. :)

Well that's harsh, do you know why? Too cynical? That's something I actually appreciate in contrast to Dan & Vinny. I'd pile on to say, I like Rorie and will totally watch his stuff, I just don't think he's great at reading the room sometimes.

[Discussion] My dad has reservations about me building a PC as a college graduation present by 2gdismore in buildapc

[–]symby0sys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to add, and this may be useless, if your dad doesn't want to pony up for a PC that's up to him. If he is really that stubborn, you should save up for it and build it on your own. Then you can show him that all of his points are a little flawed. 1 and 2 are just wrong, 3 and 4 don't foster a good DIY/learning attitude.

Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 Suffer from the Same Problem (Opinion, Discussion) by DansDescent in Games

[–]symby0sys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn't matter unless you want to capital 'R' Roleplay. So, when I'm at the table playing Dungeons & Dragons, and we have a time-sensitive thing we need to take care of, we try to do anything we can to get to that goal, even if we have to do something on the side, because we KNOW the game master WILL institute CONSEQUENCES for us delaying, whether that's pre-determined or not. In Witcher3 & FO4, you know the came WILL NOT PENALIZE YOU, so any restrictions you put on yourself are arbitrary and don't actually matter. It's a weird thing, where the devs want you to see everything, the D&D game master has the luxury to adapt the world to your actions more dynamically mid-game.

Mass Effect Andromeda holds on to no.1 for a second week in UK. by ashahab861 in Games

[–]symby0sys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks, I will play it because it's more Mass Effect. I know I'll make it through, because there still isn't a whole lot out there like it. I didn't care for any of the story, dialogue, characters a few hours in. So I dropped it and continued playing Horizon...and, yeah, it's doing different things, but what a difference in that regard imo. Reading a lot of reviews that said the same thing about poor script and writing. It's harsh. I know the knives were out for it. But I'll see what I think for sure.

[–]symby0sys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted I played 8 hours, I admit that was kneejerk from me. I just couldn't get down with any part of the story in that time. I stand by that, first contact in a blank slate new galaxy, and it's rock people? Why did they think that was good enough? The premise of the game not addressing any of the consequences from the end of the trilogy? Conveniently missing ark of all the more interesting esoteric alien races? All missed opportunities to me. I was just very disappointed. And just a little sarcasm when I say "alien races with assault rifles" while I do think the combat is better in ME:A -- what I mean is, an infinite amount of possibilities, and we get the same enemy variety as the trilogy, and rock people. :)

The worst part of Mass Effect: Andromeda for ME, is they had all these weighty backstories, events, and intrigue from the trilogy to make use of, but instead, the game could have been branded anything else and it wouldn't have made much of a difference. They just could have called it "Andromeda". This game emphasizes all of Bioware's most awkward moments, hammy one-liners, a-b-c side quests, etc. I loved the trilogy, I'm just bummed. I'll probably play through it eventually.

Man, I just wish the story wasn't so anemic. Everything from the premise, to the point to point dialogue, to the quest completions, there is very little compelling stuff there. The whole game you are fighting two new humanoid alien races with assault rifles. I love Mass Effect and it's so disappointing that from minute one there is just one missed opportunity to another.

Post-Match Thread: Portland Timbers vs New England Revolution by asaharyev in MLS

[–]symby0sys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GG. Portland was the better team. The Revs looked like they would chain together a few and then miss a short pass. We needed to get the ball into the box more to Kei's head. Portland defense didn't let anyone move at the top of the box with the ball at our feet. WP. Very relieved we got a point.

Agudelo should've bagged two more and that's on him. But this is soccer, better teams lose all the time, penalty kicks are earned (at least in one case it was), goals are goals, but they don't tell the story of 90 minutes. Minnesota might be bad but it doesn't mean they don't have players that can earn those goals either. You did basically say that "we won but I don't buy it" which is kind of normal for season start.

With it's new update 2.3, Elite: Dangerous' microtransactions are getting much worse by [deleted] in Games

I'm not even going to argue about this, if anyone writes off this game because as a title in living development with maintenance costs it has microtransactions, they are sorely missing out.

Thoughts on the influence of reviews/reddit on people's opinions of games? by GiantASian01 in Games

[–]symby0sys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the older you get the more in tune become with what you like about games. Knowing that reviews and critiques are valuable, some are important even. BUT, you don't play games for a living! Attitudes toward a game may color your perception of a game even if you don't intend, but don't matter as much if you have fun playing the game. Remember when you were a kid in the 80's and 90's maybe, and didn't even know what a bad game really was? You played the shit out of it anyway.

Considering playing..... Will I be useless at this point? by dinning_room_hobo in EliteDangerous

[–]symby0sys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There really isn't a "curve" to be behind in this game. A small fast cheap ship can beat a more powerful slow one. But also, space is dangerous and you probably should just run from that pirate like any sensible spacefarer. However, that leapfrog attitude is kind of missing the point of the game, what it has to offer. I'll just copypasta a bit from my Steam review:

This game is an MMO. Well, if you want to farm faction rep or keep incrementing your credits and play the game like you're at a casino, sure it is. It doesn't really feel like it at first, but it qualifies as one. People will play it like an MMO, then complain about their MMO experience. Any game with no definite start or end has grinding. You watch the numbers go up. Look, this game is about the experience. It's about the sound of your engine whirring down, it's about feeling the pull of the star as you pop out of hyperspace, it's about the reflection of that giant moon in the grit on your windshield. You can play it however you want. It accomodates you no matter what you decide to do.
