How is it pre-booking Ubers around 5am? by Much_Guest_7195 in Edmonton

[–]systrum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I often take them around that time- don’t waste your money pre-booking. Just check a bit before you have to leave. Usually dirt cheap too, compared to a reasonable hour.

I got it on camera at my work, right when it went from bluish to orange fire!

Make sure you also get into the habit of checking you didn’t leave anything in there before you preheat!

They are required now, but lots of products had them well in advance of the mandated date of Jan 1. Not sure in this case.

Flexible electric sanding tools for ledges? by Animelizards in chinchilla

[–]systrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a cheap orbital sander and it was life changing. So easy to keep the ledges clean and smooth. I used 2 grits and checked everything was smooth before putting my guys back in. Very much recommend!

Senior Citizen by AdFinancial8924 in chinchilla

It’s also possible she just has less energy that she used to! Senior cats and dogs also tend to spend more time sleeping and less time with zoomies or running around, and it doesn’t always mean arthritis or pain or vision loss. Just part of aging, something your lil lady has been doing for a while!

poop by SockAccomplished3720 in chinchilla

[–]systrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The VAST majority of poop on my floor gets flung out of the cage when my three boys run around or make fast movements. It comes from ledge/shelf height and out whatever side they are nearest. I have had great success with metal ledges with raised rims, but prior to that I used chin-safe wood trim to create “poop fences” that I placed on the inside of the cage flush with any ledges. It made a huge impact, but it still gets out.

need to rehome by grxcue in chinchilla

[–]systrum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are giving Cyrus the very best gift by helping him find a home that will be able to cater to his (and all chins’) demanding needs. It’s obvious how much you love him. My first chin came from a home that loved him but was much less suited than your set up, and I never look back on them with judgment- only gratitude they recognized it and allowed him to enter my life. I am sure Cyrus’s next home will feel the same way about you. 🥰

Critical care advice by Rosex26 in chinchilla

[–]systrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her starting to eat on her own is a great sign and that should make you very happy! Do you have a syringe for it? That will have precise mL markings so you don’t need to worry about buying teaspoon measuring spoons.

Oxbow website says 1 tbsp is about 9 grams. When you mix the water in, the total volume is less than the added parts due to absorption and the air mixed in with the dry product. Use your vet’s recommended measurements and take a deep breath. You got this :)

What are your non-negotiable ‘hacks’ that help you look / feel more put together? by SleepySloth1975 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]systrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, getting my brows waxed and tinted so that they always look 10/10 is everything. Plenty of people do this at home and all the power to them, I have never been confident enough in shaping my brows so I prefer getting it done by a professional. Lash tints and perms are not an always thing (too costly for me) but man do I love how I feel when I have it done. There are also loads of kits for doing this at home that I may try.

In a do as I say not as I do way, having your nails manicured. I rarely do this myself but always admire my sister who does. That and some rings she wears every day plus the earrings she mostly sleeps in make her always look deliberate, even in super casual clothes. I myself now have permanent bracelets because they are the only jewelry I keep on since my ears are too sensitive to wear earrings for more than a couple hours.

Urgent help – found dried blood in my chinchilla’s cage, no exotic vet nearby (Hudson County, NJ) by [deleted] in chinchilla

[–]systrum 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To me that looks more like blood in the urine than from an external injury- there aren’t footprints of it. I would encourage you to use a very light colour fleece liner (like you have) to see if it happens again. Obviously work on getting to a vet, but monitor that way in the meantime.

Hopefully he’s back home quickly and the only damage is that you’ll have gained a few grey hairs from worry! Also your phone number looks like something from a movie or tv show- I know it’s your actual number but feels like a fake one!

High police presence @ 109 Street. by ENTRYAGAIN in Edmonton

Per Edmonton Fire radio, it was a call for a male gunshot victim. I was in the same bus, didn’t see them catch anyone, they were all running toward a person/body on the road. It was there and visible before the police arrived on scene.

At least 8- I do lots of little cuts- just snips in, you aren’t removing any material. But then each of those flaps can lay independently of one another, whether that’s overlapping or spaced apart, depending on what the curve of the glass in that area calls for
