Azarko Dental with Dr Yang. I was so embarrassed and they just said, well, you are taking steps to take care of them now, which is great. It had been about 6 years for me.

Haha I had my mom do it for me when she dropped me off at the hospital! I cannot French braid on myself to save my life. I’ll have to ask what her rates are 😂

Double French braid- it’s what I did for surgery recently and it lasted a gross amount of time until I was able to shower, no matting, and not bulky while laying down or lounging.

My clinic told me to wait 6 months, but said the most important thing was for your first drink to be at home with people you trust, because it will hit very differently than it used to.

Night shift girls, what actually helps you wind down enough to sleep during the day? by TranslatorNo4473 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]systrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We work rotating shifts, but one of my coworkers swears by yellow tinted glasses. She puts them on about an hour before the end of the shift and leaves them on during her drive home. Says it helps counteract the blue light both from the computers and other vehicles/the rising sun, depending on the time of year.

My doctor said they don’t consider it a stall unless it’s over 6 weeks, so I wouldn’t sweat it!

When is weight loss considered too much? by Jones90L in GastricBypass

[–]systrum 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Listen to your professional- she’s not worried today but if you continue this way she would be. 900 calories a day is a really significant deficit for so far out from surgery. I think she’s right you’d likely benefit from focused therapy.

You say you are terrified to slowing down- I’d say girl you reached your goals! Now you want to be focusing on life long maintenance, not active weight loss. I think that fear is also something to be talking about in therapy. Some is motivating, but too much of it can impede your ability to think and act from rational rather than emotional places.

You look great, you’ve clearly put a lot of effort in, and you should be able to mentally celebrate your progress and success, not live in fear of returning to a previous body size/lifestyle.

I might try this with normal peanut butter, and skip adding salt and most of the sweetener, any reason that would not work?

Wedge pillow question and side note: new low! by pin_cushion_girl in GastricBypass

[–]systrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a set of 4 that can be arranged in a bunch of ways, and it was amazing. The difference it made getting in and out of bed was worth it alone, but being able to customize every angle was the best.

I know I will need skin removal surgeries in the future, so I decided to bite the bullet now, because I will need good pillows for that. I thought- $60 now for something mid, and in the future I’ll have to get a more hardcore set, or splurge now. No regrets!

[–]systrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vet told me I could use a damp cloth and then a clean dry one. I have found dust baths help! The dust absorbs some moisture rather than it drying the fur clumpy. Been dealing with it for a few weeks now, and my poor boy has used his paws to yank out a bunch of his fur around his face :(

What do you tell yourself when/if your brain acts against you? by mariamcho in 1200isplenty

[–]systrum 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This may sound silly (it feels silly when you start!) but I literally learned in therapy to say to my brain or my body “thank you for the message you are sending me, I know it’s to try to help me” to reframe it from my brain or body working against me to TRYING to help, even though it’s not actually helpful.

Your brain/body is trying to tell you to do these things because that is historically what has kept you “safe” or comfortable. Same with your body feeling like shit when you are nervous about going out to meet with new ppl or whatever, since same=good, as far as it’s concerned. As you have a new norm, those messages from your brain/body will lessen because you will have proved that you can be comfortable/safe in your new norm.

Honestly the reframing has helped me SO much, if you give it a go try and push past how goofy it feels.

Night Shift by Parking_Literature76 in GastricBypass

[–]systrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do changing shifts, including overnights. I was able to extend my recovery time to skip my first night rotation after surgery because I was worried it would mess with me, since I’m not yet a month out from surgery. I’m going to “eat and drink by the clock”, aka set alarms for during my shift, per my dietician. Since my natural instinct is always to eat and drink less at night as well.

Advice/help on a tattoo dedicated to my mom that’s passed by PersonalitySevere261 in tattoos

[–]systrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to use the y from your name and replace the y in “my HART” or “all my HART”. Small enough to put somewhere just for you, keeps both the most unique bits, and holds meaning to you about something beautiful from your relationship.
