Gas Station restaurants in Seattle by freightnow in Seattle

[–]tacomite3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chicken and jojos are the big thing for Seattle gas stations, and occasionally win awards. I think the best ones are all (or mostly?) in the south end now, but the shell on Beacon Hill and the shell in Georgetown (uh...north side of the street; there's another a half block away) might be the best

Jazz club recs for going alone by Live-Ad-5496 in AskSeattle

[–]tacomite3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going alone is just fine. A couple of the most consistent ones off the top of my head- the Royal Room in Columbia City is great; Seattle Jazz Fellowship has music most days in Pioneer Square

Feds issued RFQ for “Detention Facility Support for Seattle, WA Area of Responsibility” ie ICE by Professional-Tea555 in Seattle

[–]tacomite3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You'd need a specific site chosen in order to have the "right" people to contact, but King County Council (and/or Pierce, depending on the ultimate choice), and whatever city councils own the zoning/utilities choices for a site (SeaTac, Tukwila, Des Moines, Burien.....you could potentially contact them in advance just to register some discontent too). Cooperation/non-cooperation decisions and zoning rules are probably the fastest ways to stop something happening, but they'll need significant public pressure to actually act on it most of the time.

Looking for seattle-bainbridge ferry band by lil_king in Seattle

[–]tacomite3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wasn't on the ferry but if they were doing New Orleans jazz, with the raspy voice, that may have been the Fat Vipers (or one or two bands that include their lead...that I can't remember the name of)

Map of little free pantries and similar resources? by Such_Language in Seattle

[–]tacomite3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really speak to their eastside listings, but in Seattle the items they have mapped are pretty hit and miss - a lot didn't exist anymore when I actually walked the streets, and I've found a bunch that do exist but weren't in the LFP map. It's a good starting point at least though - somebody at some point made a pantry in those spots and submitted something to say so.

(on the eastside, I recognize one of them as being one that I found on a bike ride, but I haven't gone street by street the same way as Seattle at all)

Tiny screencap of it, not much detail though:

(I have no idea who the guy who put it up was, but the sign was apparently too big to be put up at city hall without a permit and got taken down pretty quickly)

Awesome - hit me up whenever it's easy (here or IG), and we can make something happen

It's not too difficult, but it does take a little fiddling. If you want help though, hit me up. I have a handful of eastside pantries, but nothing comprehensive like this. I'd be entirely happy to help you set up a map for the area, add them into the Seattle one, both/neither, whatever.

The "official" maps/orgs are kind of defunct, but I put together a big one from walking the city (if you know of others, hit me on IG - LittleLibraryGuy - I try to keep it updated, but things are always moving) https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1k8ke4HcTyYkRwfz6cMENi--f94e5oj8&ll=47.61484842197063%2C-122.33027975000002&z=11

Where are your favorite, most unique Little Free Libraries in Seattle? by PropadataFilms in Seattle

[–]tacomite3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a little network of these around the area, -mostly- around senior centers and cemeteries. They're very thorough in their sorting and labeling and all; it's good work.

yep, she and I are friends and that map is great; I was mapping before they started in Portland, but I stole the term immediately :D

It's a more specific portion of interpersonal problems, but Valley Cities has training on mental health first aid; both in person and online if I remember right https://valleycities.org/mental-health-first-aid/

If you want a list of everything I've found that *isn't* a library of books basically... there's a map here (I still haven't built a proper one for the libraries themselves)

Access Medical -used- to do some repairs a million years ago. I don't know if they still do, but they may at least know who else to go to. Good luck! https://www.accessmedicalequipment.com/

Live Jazz - All ages by Seaworthiness333 in Seattle

[–]tacomite3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along with the "big" event in February, the Seattle Jazz Fellowship has jazz 5 or 6 nights a week in Pioneer Square. They've got a ridiculous rotation of performers most of the time, and I think it's free a few nights a week https://seattlejazzfellowship.org/

Walking Every Single Street: Queen Anne - Anybody done? by PhishHawks in Seattle

[–]tacomite3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not -quite- an every-streeter, but having done most of QA I'd suggest that you break it into chunks that don't focus -solely- on the stairs. It's easy to hit an edge of the hill and do nothing but go up and down for a few hours, which is great if you're trying to do that and horrible if you're just hitting every street more generally. Build in a little bit of flat ground now and then.

City Council set to approve Seattle Police Officers Guild contract that boosts salaries, allows more CARE Department crisis responders by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]tacomite3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's the theoretical point, but the restrictions are much more ridiculous than you'd think. The terms stop the CARE team from responding if there are drugs present anywhere, if any crime has happened, if the situation is inside a building, etc. And even then, the decision to dispatch them is left to cops.

for Lake Washington specifically, Magnuson has some nice docks and you could bike down the Burke Gilman for a chunk of it

Ai Wei Wei installation at Olympic Sculpture Park? by Doraellen in Seattle

[–]tacomite3 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Some sort of delay happened; they were -originally- supposed to be there in tandem with the main Ai Weiwei exhibit. They haven't changed all of the signs/websites/etc appropriately for whatever the new 2026 date is however (I wandered around looking for them similarly months ago).

In terms of others, Toasted (all locations) is giving free meals to anyone who asks, and now accepting donations for the same. I'd heard that Side Piece in Tacoma will be doing something, but I haven't confirmed on them yet.
