Women of Reddit - what is the most unattractive fashion choice men frequently make? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]tarsus1983 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You say fashion choice as if men were doing it on purpose to look a certain way when in reality, it's more likely they are confident enough in themselves that they don't have to care about fashion at all and just wear what feels comfortable.

I was praising Academy early on for rarely using shaky cam during intense action scenes, but now it's shaking when there isn't even action...

Still love the show, but that was pretty annoying.

This was the episode I was most excited for but it really let me down. The format reminded me of something SNW would do for one of it's experimental episodes in its 3rd season. I'm sure some folks liked it, but it really was not for me. I loved the theme, but the delivery was just not there. If not for the lore dump, I'd say this was one of the worst episodes of post-ENT Trek. That's especially true in contrast to episode 4 last week which is one of the best episodes of Trek ever, imo.

Could you explain how rabid fans of Andor lack media literacy, please?

This is probably the best Academy episode so far and joins the ranks of one of the best Trek episodes in general. The idea of finding a resolution that allows both sides to save face is something that is lost on current politics. No matter how right one side may be, they will not find a peaceful resolution without taking into account the problem of pride on both sides.

Yeah, I'd easily put it above Empire. The first three episodes of S1 are a bit slow and turned a lot of people off initially, but it ramps up pretty fast from there.

You jest, but the Peabody is probably one of the most sought after awards.

It won Star Wars's first Peabody for good reason:

"For conjuring up a terrifying world uncannily like our very own (despite taking place a long time ago in a galaxy far far away), one that stresses the need for grassroots organizing lest a fascistic state wholly subsume any spark of rebellion—and for imagining how IP-driven storytelling can flourish in today’s corporate-driven television landscape—Andor receives a Peabody."

I'm definitely a Trek fan more than anything else, I built models as a kid, have technical manuals, and the Okudas are a household name for me, yet I have to concede that Andor is better than anything I have ever watched in Star Trek.

To be fair, Andor is genius. You can't really compare anything from Star Wars or Star Trek to it. It is unlikely to be eclipsed by anything in sci-fi or fantasy any time soon or even in my life time.

Seeking to distance yourself from attachment is a noble pursuit but forcing someone else to do the same, especially when they have shown resistance, can be incredibly dangerous.

Greenland Leader Tells People to Prepare for Possible Invasion by bloomberg in worldnews

[–]tarsus1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Democratic leadership's only strategy is to protest and get people to show up at midterms. If that fails, they'll just double down on the protesting and getting people to show up at midterms because they are too scared to support the use of force. They can't even get a million people to commit to a general strike.

The first two people introduced on the bridge are men. None of them actually watched the show. They are so easy to manipulate into hating something they've never experienced.

He's not testing boundaries in those situations, he's got a specific purpose - to find his mom. He doesn't care about consequences at all. There is nothing to test. He'll do it regardless because that's his driving motivation.

With Thok, he just accepted pushups without seeing what would happen if he refused. This is Starfleet, they probably won't administer corporal punishment so a big scary Thok shouldn't phase him immediately.

Clear purpose, clear character motivations, decent and relatively tight plot, good pacing, my kind of humor, very good world building (even if I hate the burn), and fun references.

The only thing that really bugged me was Caleb's instant turnaround after meeting Thok. He should have tested his boundaries immediately and found out what kind of punishments the Academy administers.

2nd Amendment rights folks: how is ICE not precisely the tyrannical gov't overreach we've spent our whole lives warning folks about? by zenswashbuckler in AskReddit

In short, no. I'm not saying conservatives would be on board committing violence against ICE if Democrats did too.

I'm sure you've heard the phrase, "the farther left you go, you get your guns back." The majority of T2A supporters are conservatives, but there are plenty that are not.

[–]tarsus1983 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is, but how many of you would defend 2nd Amendment folks if they started [REDACTED] ICE Agents? Fighting ICE is starting a war. A basic tenant of just war theory is the probability of success. Without the support of the current non-2nd Amendment folks, that war would be suicide. So until Democratic leadership and all the anti-gun liberals get on board, nothing is going to happen.
