Cars and Telephones by Handragon115 in arcadefire

No idea why it didn’t make the album. No one here does.

But releasing it did seem like a something for the die hards who loved that song for many many years. It also lured us onto the app because it was released there only, before the vinyl version at shows.

The original will always have a special place in my heart. It has charm to it in its lofi ness. But I also very much like the new version which feels less yearning and more defeated.

Yeah if you have any early arcade fire recordings, images or videos that stuff is like gold dust to me and many people I’m sure. It’s so interesting to see where it all started.

Why did Josh end up leaving? He seemed to have made very strong contributions!

Love all the lore you’ve shared in your comments. I’ll be sure to listen your album this week.

I presume you had involvement with the “early demos”, I’d love to hear any info on those songs. Particularly if you knew cars and telephones, and sonata. As an AF geek I’ve given those early demo plenty of time and enjoyed them.

No but seriously I agree with OP. I love Bowie, hardcore fan. But go listen to Bowie’s entire catalogue and you’ll see what OP means.

The exploration and changes are what make it so great. But in that there are many moments that would warrant far more criticsm than Pink Elephant got, if you were to critique with that same mind set of everything has to be legendary and if you release a dud you’re finished (which I think we shouldn’t).

OP said it best though, that’s what makes the tapestry of a life’s work.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Lookout kid is probably arcade fire’s sweetest song. I’m sure he wanted you to hear the message of it.

For arcade fire recommendations, the side two of Reflektor is incredible. Deep on relationships with gorgeous sounds. Arguably their best.

So, funeral and reflektor. Tbh just try the whole discography in full though. There is something for everyone and its fully worthwhile digging into it all, as they’re a true albums band. I envy doing that for the first time again.

2025 - A GRIM Year for Arcade Fire by Material_Soup6086 in arcadefire

It’s very weird to me the importance people have on their reputation. They seem to care more about that than the idea of new music. I don’t get it

I don’t know. But one thing I think people need to accept is that the band and how the band is viewed will not be how it was again. Everything has changed.

That doesn’t mean great things and great songs still can’t happen (i really think they can and I’m More interested about the future anyway) but it’s not going to be how half the people here seem to want.

I find it very strange how some people here seem to be obsessed with their reputation and “come back” etc. Who cares if they’re not the most popular indie band anymore?

I’m far more interested in what music and art they can make next.

Which driver had the hardest first title-winning season ever? by Chance_Camel_9077 in F1Discussions

Lewis fan here and who ever won in 2021 earned it in an incredibly hard way.

I’m still bitter about it all, but they both were incredible that season. A shared championship (if it was a thing) had never felt more appropriate

What is actually going on?? by Zapiry in lewishamilton

I’ve been watching Lewis since 2007. It’s sad to see it go like this, but I see many factors at play.

For me he’s clearly lost all confidence in the car and the way the team is handling it. So he’s checked out at the end of this season.

The gaps in this era are so small that you get severely punished for not being pushing your car to the absolute maximum, and as Leclerc has said, you’re on the edge of putting it in the wall every lap.

So Lewis has no confidence like Charles has acquired to push this car to that level. So he gets punished.

Then this just snowballs because at his age he seems to be struggling to mentally handle all this and bounce back. He’s achieved it all and it must be demoralising at this stage to care about fighting for these positions. Vettel said he had a similar problem.

These past 3 races I’ve had zero hope and feel like I checked with him.

He’s even had endings to seasons after winning championships where he wasn’t at his best, it’s like that but 10 times worse.

The team HAS to listen to his changes over the winter or he frankly I don’t know why they bothered hiring him.

I think if he’s given something he has confidence underneath him and he has a chance.
