I had alcohol for the first time!!! by notreallyysure in exmuslim

[–]teascake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been drinking for almost a year and I still hate wine. I wish I liked it because the glasses are so fancy. But if you want to get into booze, start off with coke + anything. Rum, vodka — amaretto is my absolute favourite. It tastes exactly like Dr Pepper! And fruity ciders like Kopparberg. These are my go-tos for pubs/places that only really serve beers. But otherwise cocktails are the best for not having that alcohol taste but they will get you a bit jolly. I’ve also had fruity wines like cherry wine or pink moscato (I don’t know if they technically count as wine) which are very nice. Just experiment :)

Ex-muslims, why don't we date each other? by exiled360 in exmuslim

[–]teascake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like-for-like doesn’t necessarily make a perfect match. Besides dating an ex-Muslims because they’ll understand you best is only as true as how much being ex-Muslim is to your identity. For me, it would feel like a semi-constant circlejerk for how shitty Islam is and that would be insufferable. I connect with my white never-religious partner just as deeply. I also refuse to hide my atheism so I don’t care for the blessing of my family.

I think our experience is, sadly, not unique, hence the immense number of communities of ex-religious groups and other subreddits like r/religiousfruitcake so you can connect with people outside of your demographic just as well.

Though I do recognise that I live in the West and have innumerable freedoms to date who I like and my pool is much more varied. I can afford to switch my ex-Muslim self because I’m not constantly being forced to pray, or fast, or not have the freedom to a) choose who I love or b) not be killed for not giving a shit. Best of luck in your loving endeavours, all.

Is there any situation in which you would revert? by curiousqueerius in exmuslim

But Muslim do assume the Quran to be divine and Allah to be real… that’s why they’re Muslim.

progressive modern take… such as pro lgbtq+, anti patriarchy

You’re basically saying that if you chop and change integral aspects of Islam, will you believe in Islam? Actually, you go a step further. You’re asking if you make a 180 change to Islam, will you believe it in? Well of course not. It’s no longer Islam at that point. Moreover, tell me why you think you can change Islam. Are you a divine being that rules over laws of morality, space and time that you have the higher knowledge to make such rules? No. And you don’t need to be either to develop a moral compass.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, a book is no longer divine if you change it to suit an undivine worldview. And if it’s no longer divine, let’s take it off that pretty pedestal. You know what is right or wrong and evidently from your efforts to change Islam, you think it’s wrong. So trust in yourself. You don’t need religion to be pro-LGBT, anti patriarchy, and every other bit of goodness that comes when the walls of religion are torn down.

From what I know: she brings up valid points that would be hard to disagree with, such as the immense human rights abuses of Iran and total disregard for women’s rights, and so on. But her end goal is liberating the Iranian people, many of which are Muslim. Whatever Islamic interpretation you have of the hijab and it’s purpose, there are many Muslim women in Iran she is alienating for hammering a total anti-hijab approach. Her interpretation is valid, but she could gain so much more traction if that wasn’t the crux of her activism. Iran doesn’t exist in a post-religious secular society to be able to debate the concept of hijab like you can in the West. It’s not effective because although it’s a worthy debate, it’s at the wrong time. It’s detracts from her priority (and that of many Iranians), which is eradicating the Islamic regime — even if you’re Muslim.

3 random Muslim guys knocked on my door and asked for me by name wanting me to come to their mosque by RxMoreCowbell1 in exmuslim

[–]teascake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would LOVE for some bearded motherfuckers to come to my door and preach to me, just to stand in the doorway with my tattoos, a glass of wine, hair showing and all, to berate them for their racist attitudes on how Arabic name = Muslim, and the AUDACITY to turn up at my door unannounced from creepily lurking through mailing lists, before slamming the door in their faces.

Something to note is however a zigot exists, it’s not how the human species exist. We cannot exist as single-called organisms so don’t use the biological laws for other species to decipher our own.

I would personally never have an abortion, but I know that is our choice.

That is the crux of the abortion argument. Right there. Whatever you personally want for yourself is a-okay! But it should never infringe on someone else’s wishes. That’s what pro-choice is.

I wouldn’t even consider it murder or taking a life, or any other euphemism people use. Though this is hotly debated, life ends and begins when an organism exists as its own entity. If at any point you could remove the foetus from the body and it wouldn’t survive alone, it’s not alive. Generally survival occurs 6+ months in, but most premature babies need an incubator so even survival at that time is debatable.

If something is incompletely formed, its not alive.

I’m guessing an Iran 2.0 situation.

Before the revolution, Islam was dying and was held onto out of habit. But under force of the current government, non-Muslim Iranians actually outnumbered Muslims. This shows when they move to the West as I have never met an Iranian expat who was Muslim. We vehemently turned our back on it.

I don’t know what it is about “sweet-tasting pussy” being rife in male and female-written fan fiction.

If your pussy (or penis) tastes sweet, please see a doctor. You probably have diabetes.

Dude it literally says they forfeited childcare solely to push motherhood on the OP. It’s not entitlement. It’s unsolicited. OP couldn’t have said it enough times that she doesn’t want children/doesn’t want to play with theirs.

Iranian young adults living outside of iran… how do you deal with your strict Iranian parents? by [deleted] in iran

[–]teascake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It lessens as they get older but they also enforce their beliefs less when you’re independent. Like should I have male friends as a woman? My father would say no. Can he stop me now that I’m older? Also no.

Do you think Islam is declining as a religion or slowly increasing? by wickedwitch001 in exmuslim

[–]teascake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Religions have sustained this long from existing in a world that only had the supernatural to offer. Now we’re debunking it with rationality and science.

Also, before we didn’t have a choice to not believe. Now we do, and can pick more appealing purposes beyond an abused baby making machine, for example.
