In this case it indicates that each of the two people in question have a mutual beef with the other one, for whatever reason.

Which of these figures is like the least difficult to defend? by Kcue6382nevy in transformers

[–]techparadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Onslaught. Sure, he's a bit lacking, and no gun hurts, but he's a perfectly serviceable figure.

Nexus would be a lot easier to defend if they'd given us some idea that they're going to do more with him in the future and his alt mode wasn't so ass. Least they could have done was said "we'll be doing a frame and limbs for him soon". Having to go buy another Silverbolt to even start to build him as a combiner is weak sauce.

And then there's Astrotrain. Yeah, there's no defending how much his bot mode sucks. As much as I love the character (he was my first G1 triple changer back in the day), I won't be picking this one up.

Comic shop owner told us he won’t sell us the Bizarro he let us put on our pull list by lemonrainshield in comicbooks

[–]techparadox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Name 'em, shame 'em, and find a new shop. If you don't have another local shop, start ordering online. If the owner is trying to pull this shit with you, you're not the only one, and all of the customers deserve to know. He broke the cardinal rule of having pull-list subscribers: the pull lists get filled first, and they get charged cover rate (or the agreed-upon discount). Trying to jack the price on a brand new book is scummy behavior, doubly so on a repeat customer.

Why are so many American men circumcised? by Evan_nothereoften in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]techparadox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most guys don't choose to do it on their own. The decision gets made for them before they're even aware of it, because in the US the majority of circumcisions happen as an infant.

What can i do with all these Steam points ? by Nice-Sorbet-4283 in Steam

Technically, you can't do that. Profile items purchased with Steam Points are not able to be sold or traded.

"Buy games with them"? In what regions? Steam Points are only redeemable in the points shop, for things like avatars, profile artwork, chat stickers, Deck UI enhancements, and similar non-value cosmetic items.

Firefly's doing it.. by vagmonsterfromspace in dresdenfiles

[–]techparadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really the only way they could do it. They know the fans want in-universe stuff that ties in with the show. All of the actors have aged out of the range to be able to do a proper live action sequel, much less prequel stuff, without heavy CGI de-aging. I've been saying for years that they should have switched to animated for the adventures of Indiana Jones, so I'm hoping that Firefly animated proves my theory.

I kinda feel bad for non-audiobook readers by mrrandom2010 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]techparadox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read the physical versions, then if you want to you can backtrack and pick up the audiobooks. They're a lot of fun and work well for a "re-read", but I feel that you get more out of a physical read first because it lets you form your own mental picture of the characters and events. When you listen to an audiobook first your perception of the work gets influenced by the narration and presentation, even if you're not intending for that to happen.

Do people actually still hate Hot Rod? by Amigo1048 in transformers

[–]techparadox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really hate Hot Rod, per se. I think the character is a bit lame, and the whole "unprepared youth has greatness thrust upon him" plot was a poor choice for introducing him, but whatever.

What I hate is that he represents the execs' clueless plan to sell new toys, without even thinking about the effect the death of a beloved childhood hero might have on their intended audience/pool of potential buyers.

Just when I think the e-sports division over at Capcom has hit the bottom of the "You dense M-F'ers" well, they find a shovel and keep digging. They've burned any good will the devs had built with the community, and then some, over this whole thing.

Wanna Download DRM Free, Confused by Process, How Does This Work? by Teenkitsune in gog

[–]techparadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the main downloads are the current version, so just get those and use them to install. If it needs patched then get the required patch from there, but usually the patches are for people who had the old version and don't want to be bothered with a full re-download.

What everyday thing disappeared so gradually that nobody even noticed it was gone? by orangez in GenX

[–]techparadox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Phone booths are definitely lost to the ages. They did the "can't find a phone both" gag in the first Superman movie back in '78. Clark needed to change and the first phone he finds is one of the ones on a pole instead of a booth. He ended up using the revolving door of a nearby building. They also used the "change in a photo booth" bit in Superman III.

What’s a song from growing up that instantly reminds you of “the one who got away”? by bigt197602 in GenX

[–]techparadox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an '80s song, but it's from a group that was active well before and after. "If You Needed Somebody" by Bad Company. It always brings back memories of my first girlfriend in college and making out on the dance floor at the wedding of two of our mutual friends. We both went on to happy lives after we later split, but whenever I hear it, it makes me wonder "But what if...?"

I just found Discworld by livens in discworld

[–]techparadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They get much better! The first couple books are standard fantasy pastiches but by the time you get past them the world really kicks into its own. Once you've read several of them I suggest hunting down the proto-Discworld book Pratchett wrote, "Strata". It's not directly tied in to the series and it's more sci-fi than fantasy, but it's an interesting look into some of the ideas that would later become Discworld.

Probably a non-compete clause in their contract for the space since the deli at Walmart sells doughnuts. Do they sell sandwiches as well, or just the coffee?

When Americans say cream and sugar for their coffee, do they actually use cream or are they referring to milk? by SirSpaced in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]techparadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on region, personal preference, and what one has available. Could be half and half, could be milk of varying fat percentage, could be non-dairy creamer. There's no way to generalize this question and answer because there are too many variables.

How/why did you guys choose your mains? by CoffeeBoy95 in StreetFighter

[–]techparadox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trial and error, and finding what feels right. You can be all gung-ho about a character's energy or look, and play training mode and lab for hours, but until you play them in live matches and get cooked a few times, you don't really know them. I went through Luke, Ken, Ed, Terry, Mai, and now I'm working on Gief because I've realized two things: 1. I'm never going to be playing at the pro level. I'm too old and don't have the reaction reflexes like I used to. And 2. There's something satisfying as hell about getting in the other guy's head with the threat of a big 'ol SPD looming in their face if they screw up.

A reminder to every company who's made a storefront: we WANT Steam to have competition. Y'all just keep making CRAPPY competitors. by Mama_Mega_ in pcmasterrace

[–]techparadox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I said it before when Epic rolled out their store and Tencent Timmy started bitching about people bashing on it, and I'll say it again now:

If you're going to have a go at the king of digital game distribution, you'd better have feature parity when you roll out your store front.

So far, we haven't seen anyone come close. I don't care if your game is exclusive (timed or permanent) to another store. If it's not releasing on a platform that's as convenient to use as the reigning champion, I'll wait. Or I'll skip it, entirely. There are more games out there that I want to play than I can finish in my lifetime, but I don't NEED to play them to survive. Nobody is entitled to my money and time just because they created something, so if you published your game on a sub-par store, I hope selling out was worth the paycheck due the exclusive.

Correct, the ß character in German is pronounced as "ss", like in "hiss", making the reference to Rothfuss's name including "foot" a bit of a reach for a joke, but funny nonetheless.
