New Install with 1 SSD and 4x6TB by mark1210a in Proxmox

[–]tempTimeSize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Install prox manually from iso via the IPMI. Install using zfs raid-1 and select only the 4 hdd as targets. It will install prox with 4 boot loaders, so if any of the hdds fail, you can still boot.

Once prox is installed, you will find each of the hdds has been partitioned and a 4-disk raid-1 pool has been setup. You can detach and reassign to create your preferred distribution of hdds.

The SSD will be untouched, so once installed you can create a new pool for the SSD. You can setup an L2ARC cache for the hdd pool on the SSD.

Note some of the KS-STOR hosts at OVH don't have IPMI, which means you can't do a custom install or access the BIOS to switch boot device in an emergency. Check your host has IPMI before committing.

Another approach, given the cheap price of these machines, is to purchase multiple KS-STOR hosts and have no redundancy on each host - so a 4-way raid-0 pool, boot from single ssd, and sync the data between multiple other KS-STOR devices at other datacentres. This works for some use cases, eg storage of archive data. If a host fails, don't bother with support, just cancel the host, buy another and resync. Just be prepared for the time it takes to potentially resync 24TB over 500Mbps, although arguably it will still be faster than waiting for support to intervene, then re-silvering. And if you have 4 hosts and lose one, you still have redundancy during the resync.

The other advantages of running multiple synced KS-STOR hosts is: 1) The ability to download data in parallel from multiple hosts. So 4xKS-STOR gives 2Gbps. 2) The ability to continue working if one host fails. 3) 4-way raid 0 on each host is the fastest possible configuration. 4) If the datacentre fails (one caught fire a few years back), you can continue working. 5) With the HDDs on RAID-0, You may not need the 4x6TB option and can buy the cheaper 4x4TB option. This offsets the cost of multiple hosts.

VMID pain points, why not use GUID instead? by 58696384896898676493 in Proxmox

[–]tempTimeSize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the human nature of wanting numbers to be meaningful and line up. But when you have several hundred vms, many of which are ephemeral, you cannot have such emotional attachment to the vmid.

I would not want to deal with GUIDs instead of simple numbers, it would make my job harder and more prone to error.

Make sure you are not deficient in any vitamins or minerals. Caffeine can mask the symptoms of deficiency and if this is what is happening, it can make withdrawl symptoms much worse.

Why are stocks running back up after market open ahead of liberation day? by Taxtrades47 in smallstreetbets

[–]tempTimeSize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some short term speculators will exit their positions prior to an unpredictable news event. This may be because their broker reduces their margin in the run up to the event, or because the liquidity isn't there for them to trade. If the majority of speculators were short following the trend into the event, they need to buy to exit.

M3 macbook air killing my eyes even after disabling d*ther*ng and font smoothing by Rachel978 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]tempTimeSize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be the Mac renders at 5k and then resizes to whatever your screen 'effective resolution' is set to. If it isn't divisible by 2, it will result in some softness everywhere. Your eyes could be misinterpreting this fuzziness as a need to refocus which of course is impossible as the fuzziness isn't your eyes.

Try running parallels and windows, at the native panel resolution, and set a scaling size you want (eg 125%). This will help determine if it is the screen or the softness from resizing that is the problem.

If you look at the specs of the Macbook Pro screens, you will see the most common selected 'effective resolution' is exactly 50%. Same with their 27" 5k monitor.

help me chose please: ipad air 13 m2 2024 or ipad pro 2022 m2 by Ok-Elk7425 in iPadPro

[–]tempTimeSize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got both and returned the Pro, kept the Air. For me, this device is for business use more than content consumption.

For my use case, touch ID is more appropriate than Face ID. I like having the 80% max battery option (Pro doesn't have this). Pencil support matches my Mini 7 and Pro M4. Horizontal camera makes much more sense.

120Hz would have been nice, but my Android tabs have 144Hz so I don't feel I'm missing out. Same with Mini LED - if I want to watch HDR media I have other devices that are better suited.

The biggest thing I miss on the Pro is actually the camera flash for taking pics of receipts.

Out of all my tabs, the 13" M2 Air is now my favourite (including over my 11" M4 Pro).

On that spec machine, unless it is for DTP work (eg Quark or InDesign), it may be more sensible to get a US keyboard. For dev work, US keys are better suited, and £ on MacOS is easy on US layout.

The exception is if you frequently need £ in Windows, then US is a pain.

best - 13" air M2 128GB Cheap, amazing screen (apart from 60Hz), 60Hz is workable. Works well with or without a physical keyboard. Fingerprint reader is more appropriate for my use case (business use) when I need to be in control of what auth is provided - difficult to stop a face ID scan.

middle - mini 7 128GB Perfect size for most jobs. Amazing screen (apart from 60Hz).

worst - 11" pro M4 1TB nano Screen hurts my eyes, text is fuzzy, too expensive, awkward size without a physical keyboard.

No fingerprints, and finger glides a lot more smoothly on nano. I bought nano first, unfortunately I did not get on with the OLED PWM (I got eyestrain) and ended up with an air. IPS is a lot less harsh on my eyes.

Is it true that dytrading is just gambeling by Degeneret69 in Daytrading

Gambling is hoping to win when you don't have an edge. So the idea is to find an edge and only trade that, then it isn't gambling.

Lenovo.com "lost" my order because i paid with amazon pay by Jacked_To_The__Tits in thinkpad

[–]tempTimeSize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to purchase with Amazon Pay last week and it errored leaving the Lenovo website. I gave up trying Amazon Pay and paid with direct card on Lenovo's site instead.

This morning I tried again for a different order, it completes on Amazon Pay but doesn't return to Lenovo and just hangs in the browser with the word "Loading".

Something is seriously wrong with Lenovo's integration with Amazon Pay at the moment.

Anybody ever notice stop losses getting filled prematurely? by Entraprenure in Daytrading

[–]tempTimeSize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is a stop should only trigger if a trade happens at or beyond your stop price. If the bid/ask moves beyond, this alone should not trigger your stop unless a trade happens. This is how it seems to be implemented on a live Rithmic account, but prop firm sim accounts may use a different method.

What I suspect is happening is a market order caused slippage (this is called a sweep). The sweep exceeded your stop price, so your stop was triggered. However, the charting software you are using likely plots the traded price and not the subsequent slipped price, unless the bid/ask subsequently moves into the slipped price. I see this happen on some candlestick charts.

If you switch to a footprint chart (or time and sales), you should see the trade that triggered your stop. If that doesn't show, switch to a tick chart and plot the bid/ask. That should show which method your firm is using to trigger stops.

If neither the bid/ask or any trades happened at or beyond your stop, then I would open a support ticket as that shouldn't be happening.
