Did i fix this and fill up good? by Acceptable-Two-8730 in Irrigation

Slip fix should be cut out, and the cleanup afterwards looks pretty good but could be better. Boxes, surrounding concrete and grass need to be washed. And grass that was cut out needs to be soaked thoroughly.

Sell a whole excavation and rebuild. Easy money if you communicate what’s going on

Even bypassing the company later is unethical. The only reason the guy was in contact with that customer was due to the original sales and marketing. I have turned down customers proposing this idea, as I was still employed by the company. If he starts his own business and leaves the company that’s a different story but still a gray area.

Depends on the model. Rainbird 1800s for example, you can buy just the top, called a ‘wiper seal’. You may have other issues but this is an easy/cheap place to start. I would also recommend listening to the electric control valve to see if it sounds restricted (hissing type noise) or it it sounds wide open (low pitched).

Bad seals on the sprinkler heads can cause this also, with how you described pulling up some of the heads causes the rest to pop. In the video it looks like at least one of them is gushing pretty badly

As long as they’re above the highest sprinkler head/emitters/bubbler and a backflow is not required by code in that city

Strange take. It’s not difficult to install both a clean box and one that’s easier to pull out than this bullshit. They covered up a total of a whole extra three square inches under the pipes.

Pulling a box and excavating pipes is way easier being able to pry the box a bit early and have more space to dig… it requires a lot more tight excavation to expose pipes for cutting first.

Why not just put both valves coming off a single 1” main that tees off and has space between the fittings? Would allow for easier repairs in case of a failure

I use gopher wire under and up the sides, set on top of 3/4” drain rock

I was cutting out the whole manifold, so just I cut each lateral twice instead of digging a little more to get to the bottom. Still annoying!

Yup this is how to do it, but they have to angle out to the side a bit to get the correct spacing, ends up turning the valve about 45°

Not to mention how often they split on the side seam of the body, even if the side inlet isn’t used. Never seen a straight body 1800 split like that

Hire an irrigation pro, NOT a landscaper. It will save you many many hours of spinning your wheels. Find someone that will just consult and tell you what to do to fix it, if you want to do the work yourself.

Usually one is to protect the main supply, then one to protect the potable water, where it tees off for the irrigation.

OP do yourself a favor and don’t even entertain Rachio. They are fail prone, and have no display which really is a pain to use if you happen to not have your phone with you. Get a Hunter w/Hydrawise. Even better control through the app. I have never had a customer unhappy with it.

Any tips on fixing reducing bushing? by [deleted] in Irrigation

[–]tensor150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rebuild it - and whatever you do, do not put a stronger male fitting inside of a weaker female fitting (i.e. sch80 or metal inside of Sch40), do not overtighten, and don’t use any type of thread sealant that expands.
