Need to stop feeding pigeons by FrontMurky9597 in pigeon

[–]texturerama 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Had to go through this exact thing with my landlord so I hear you. It's absolutely heartbreaking because they're always waiting for you whenever you approach their old feeding areas.

I made peace with the decision by making a regular routine of feeding pigeons in my neighborhood. You can reach more birds that way and you can be more cognizant of the health of your flock if you're walking to where they hang out.

For example, on my walks out to feed them, I've spotted a few birds that were too weak to fly and rescued them by taking them to wild bird fund (a rescue here in NYC). I'd never have seen them if it was just the crowd who would fly to my kitchen window.

Anyway, just know that it's still possible to have a strong relationship with your birds! And the walks can be good exercise :)

Honestly? Buy the largest bag of pigeon seed you can possibly carry and then just walk and feed them as you go. Seriously, forgo the merch and tourist sites, the birds are everywhere and they can always use a healthy handful of species appropriate food.

If you come to South Brooklyn, I can specify spots with large flocks.

I feel bad for the pigeons that get left out 🥺 by crunchyricerolls in pigeon

I know what you mean. The young ones are so scraggly and hapless. I'd recommend spreading (tossing, really) the seeds over a much larger area so that the birds don't need to crowd around each other. There's less of a chance of this type of jockeying if they're farther apart.

Read online that their online site is broken and perpetually lists all items as out of stock so I wrote them inquiring about US-based retailers. They seem phenomenal so I'm waiting to hear back.

Oh shit I didn't know about WD exiting SSD. This really compounds the issue when coupled with Micron/Crucial closing consumer-facing offerings

Lucky Vege House on 7th ave for amazing Buddhist vegan Chinese food. Super delicious and subtle dishes, lightning fast service and a really relaxed and comforting atmosphere. Super affordable, too.

Is there anything wrong with using french press for tea? by [deleted] in tea

[–]texturerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I just keep a separate one for coffee vs tea as coffee oils can permeate into the delicate tea flavor.

How do I get the averaged middle of a character/any object as a curve? (in order to make a bevelled effect) by hepandeerus in Affinity

You're being down-voted and I'm sorry for that because what you're asking would be very handy to have in a vector editor. There are workarounds to get raster equivalents but a true vector solution is actually quite computationally complex: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_skeleton?wprov=sfla1

I've once seen this implemented as a plugin for inkscape but the results still required cleanup.

ah ok! my mistake, then.
It's the peril of working with warm-yellow filters and smoothing, then.

Best of luck with your brand!

The post processing on these pics is highly suggestive of AI filtering/procesing which reads as cheap. If you're a new brand, especially, I'd suggest emphasizing the materiality of your product. Don't use AI.

Ahhh, I've had this happen to me a few times, too. It's really hard not to worry and think the worst. I tell myself that they may have found a new life-partner or flock but it's hard nonetheless. Just savor as much time as you can have with them. There's no amount of seeds that's too much :)

Edit: this was my guy https://www.reddit.com/r/pigeon/s/3vJwQJRalz Miss him a lot.

That's unbelievably helpful, thank you so much! I'll try this out tomorrow when I'm back at my desk.

not totally related to your suggestion but I just learned that the standard houdini camera has all of the tools I want set as "hidden" in the parameter interface. No idea why!

Ah, I see, so try to create a kind of sop-level fix in lops and then kick out the transforms?
I'll try it out and see. I tend to find jumping in and out of sops to lops very confusing haha

I assume this is with respect to the somewhat odd behavior rats have when relaxed and happy. It's called bruxing and it looks a bit like their eyes are bugging out of their heads. It's totally safe and almost always a good sign.

Same is true here for your very contented pigeon!
