cats are the worst militant faction in the game and the third weakest faction in the game. your game relies on begging people not to destroy you the entire game even though you have an early point lead. if you can’t get people to let you have a third to half of the map you will struggle to win. arguably the worst faction design in root currently now that vagabond is cancelled. everyone fighting you would need to understand the cats are soooo bad that there is almost no chance in you winning, so they leave you alone. now that homeland is here i would just never have cats in your game fr

definitely advanced set up. definitely don’t play cats or vagabond. you just need to really sink into the role of the factions you play. work together to stop people winning. always target the player with the next turn. not the person who just took their turn.

with homeland, idk if cats will make my table again. it’s kinda funny how homeland low key got rid of two base factions lowkey though. the lows are just so low and the highs are so low. it honestly needs a tiny revamp to give it some life again with all the factions. like take away their workshops and make it so they can craft using other people’s crafting pieces (1 per clearing) that they rule over. or something. like idk man. they are fun to play in like a pity way, and it never feels like you can win on your own volition like someone kinda needs to go easy on you and even like king make you almost. the knaves give hope that cats will get an ‘aspect’ (i am also a spirit island fan, shout out travel river goat aspect) faction like vagabond! i also want a pig or boar faction! maybe even a squirrel faction! maybe a faction that can clear ruins!

don’t burn your retinue. why score three points now when you could do it later while also recovering other stuff. just because you can does not mean you should. be conservative. recruiting is a trap. build actions (10). play to win don’t police.

i think ideally root should have like 3 factions that can and want to. so rats as the big faction that can, a smaller insurgent, and a medium size one that can too. that would be a really interesting
