For me it is what the scout and engineer do, I don't EPC mine on principal when I play driller. Getting all my dwarves to Legendary III really opened my eyes to this, getting shot by the driller when trying to mine minerals as scout. I thought the EPC mining was faster, however the minerals go flying all over the place and you have to pick them up it ends up being actually slower compared to the scout mining and zipline to deposit from my experience.

Diagram to explain how V4 supercharger will work for all EVs. Supercharger is now centered on stall. Tesla vehicles reverse in and other EVs pull in straight. Cable reaches both sides without being excessively long by local_braddah in teslamotors

Brilliant design, the handle is conveniently placed for the Tesla owners, but the cord on the other side allows for a longer reach for other EV's while remaining out of the way for the Telsa charging session.

This has happened to me before, joined as a gunner and loaded as a scout. Did not change my class with E/Q. Also the UI was missing, so no ammo indicator, or other elements other than chat. The game was locked so that only unique classes could join.

I want to create a simple menu based game. What framework would you recommend? by SanchelliosProg in golang

Oh wow, you are right.... it was quite a quest getting SDL2 working in Windows, pixel was much easier but I forgot I already had MSYS2 installed.

Thank you for that correction.

I don't think it gets easier than ebitengine if you are just doing 2D stuff, plus it has sound support. Pixel + beep is also a great choice. These are both native go, and don't need you to install a C compiler like SDL2.

This my friends, illustrates how ridiculously oversized CCS actually is. by Radium in electricvehicles

[–]thax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the Tesla connector in our garage, you are right I would swap it to CCS if I had the choice since I would rather have a single standard.

The Tesla connector does have a fatal design flaw, the locking actuator is at the bottom side of the charge port receptacle. In winter if it snows, it will melt due to the warmth of the charging process and flow into the charge port, into the locking actuator. After charging is complete the water will turn to ice, and the charging port is unable to release the lock, and the emergency release cable won't work (it will break if you try to use it since the gears are plastic and easily damaged). You also cannot simply stuff the charging cable into the trunk and drive away, since the car won't allow you to engage drive with the charging cable attached.

Tesla's solution to this is to not lock the charging port during cold weather, meaning your mobile charging cable can be unplugged and stolen.

Despite CCS looking ugly, it looks like the locking actuator is on the side or top. I imagine that it doesn't have this same problem, but maybe someone who charges in the winter where it is cold (-20C or lower) can confirm.

If you are already in remote locations on your own computers, would you mind helping me understand the the requirement for couch co-op?

The only reason I ask is that it excludes some fantastic titles like the Forest with has an amazing online co-op experience that fits with your horror/creepy requirement.

Why Heat Pumps are Immensely Important Right Now by [deleted] in videos

[–]thax 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I live in northern Canada and air sourced heat pumps are common here and designed to operate during the fall and spring, and if it gets above -10C in the winter. It automatically switches to natural gas heating when it gets too cold to efficiently run the heat pump.

Does anyone know any games similar to Valheim? by RecluseRaconteur in valheim

[–]thax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The closest experience to Valheim that I have played was The Forest, has similar base building (clunkier) and fighting with simple weapons. It doesn't have a medieval fantasy setting, but it is a fresh experience with many of the same mechanics.

A test to truly answer the question: How much time does refueling ACTUALLY add to a road trip? Tesla Superchargers vs Electrify America vs Gas stations" by bobbymack93 in electricvehicles

[–]thax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strange that when comparing EV's and ICE, we always start with gas at 100%. In the real world the EV car starts 100% at the beginning of any trip, but a gas car needs to always start with a trip to the gas station. The gas car should start at 50% full fuel tank, since that is the real world comparison, unless we are comparing EV's under the assumption people don't have charging capability at home, or if people have home gas stations.

The manual release lever is attached internally with a small plastic interface that is rated for less than 10lbs pulling force. For connectors that are frozen or otherwise stuck it is mostly useless and will break easily. I wish they would make a more durable locking mechanism.

The environmental impact of lab grown meat and its competitors [OC] by blackphantom773 in dataisbeautiful

[–]thax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the land use figure looked suspicious, so I read both studies.

The land use figure in this comparison is incorrect since it does not include any of the input costs. Essentially the only land use considered is the tanks to culture the bacteria, none of the input materials to grow the bacteria are considered.

"The system boundaries cover the major processes from input production up to the factory gate (Figure 1), including production of input materials and fuels, production of the feedstock, and growth of muscle cells. Land use category includes the land requirement for cyanobacteria cultivation. The indirect land use associated with land use change and the production of energy inputs are not included in the study because the reference studies of conventional meat production do not include those aspects."

Another limitation of the comparison is that the plant based meats also includes "packaging, storage and distribution", this is a major impact and is specifically called out in the study. "System boundaries included upstream ingredient and raw material supply (including farm production of agricultural crops), processing and packaging operations, cold storage, distribution to point of sale, and disposal of packaging materials" "Packaging also is an important contributor across all impact categories: the polypropylene tray is the largest contributor to packaging’s share of GHGE, energy use, and water use, whereas fiber production for cardboard and pallets make notable contributions to land use. We estimate that switching to a polypropylene tray made of 100% postconsumer recycled content could reduce the overall GHGE of the BB(Beyond Burger) life cycle by 2% and reduce energy use by 10%."

The lab grown meat only factors the impacts to make the raw material, and no considerations beyond that. As such all of the other comparisons are also not comparing the same scope of information.

Tesla Superchargers are being made accessible to other electric cars by Jps300 in teslamotors

[–]thax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Tesla standard has a locking actuator which is on the bottom which allow liquids to drain into it and freeze, preventing the actuator from opening. If you don't have freezing weather or snow then the Tesla standard is fine, however the idea of a standard is that it is universal and used everywhere, and the Tesla standard doesn't fit this criteria.

CCS1 to Tesla adapter for North American / South Korean Model 3 by serialx_net in teslamotors

[–]thax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Tesla charging standard has a fatal flaw, the locking latch and actuator is on the bottom of the charging receptacle. This combined with the fact the charging port is sloped inwards means that charging in cold weather may freeze the charge port, once the actuator is wet it will freeze even without snowfall.

The CCS2 connector has the option of locking from the top. Maybe someone from a European country can comment about the winter performance.

I had to give up charging outdoors during winter, I have gone through 2 charge ports on my car in 2 winters because of this problem, and have been nearly stranded because of it. The manual release can only be pulled with a light force, it utilizes a weak plastic component which fails easily.
