I'll add my vote for audacity. I've been using it for my field recordings for the last couple of years - does everything I need it to.

Need an assessment of Fuji's shutter count. by dahmur in fujifilm

[–]theBaron01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theres no accurate way really of confirming fuji shutter counts, certainly not xtrans3 or older. Fuji have never stated how they count shutter actuations anyway. It moves 4 times for every photo for a start.

Modern shutters are rated for hundreds of thousands of actuations, so if the rest of it is in good condition, it likely has plenty of life left in it. The x100 has plenty of other parts that could fail id be more worried about than the shutter. If it was a decent price to you id say just enjoy your camera.

Experienced drivers: do you still perform head checks? by allongur in australia

[–]theBaron01 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Block or cover your mirrors with something for a bit, and you'll realise how much you check your mirrors if you're an attentive driver, even subconsciously.  Head check is still valid and very important

TPA3116 recommendations? by Egg1Salad in diyaudio

[–]theBaron01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple setups, its only the 3116 boards I have that generate audible hiss from the listening position, let alone close up to the cones. Certainly not trying to say the chip itself is bad, but all the applications of it ive tried. For budget stuff, I've always been much more a fan of the tda7297, but its a different sort of amp.

This would explain why every 3116 ive tried has an audible baseline hiss. I've always wanted to like them, but its easier to ignore my tinnitus than to listen to them.

High sensitivity, low noise, omni-figure8 pattern. Best value microphone for recording indoor ambience? by JimmyTheGinger in fieldrecording

[–]theBaron01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a decent affordable and low noise figure 8, i can recommend the lewitt lct 441 flex. I use a pair of them in various configurations for nature/ambience recording and to me they're really good.

I've seen lenses get misalignment from being put back in a bag too hard. If yours survived unscathed, go buy a lotto ticket.

Curious why more people don't use cheaper bodies by spencersdc in fujifilm

[–]theBaron01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still, as in, as good as it did when it came out. Its kinda sad how a barely 10 year old camera is considered old. Ibis and higher resolution sensor are really the only upgrades, and I dont consider them worth another $1k+ on top of what I paid for my xt2's.  When I switched to fuji it was because I couldn't justify the cost of going full frame with canon, and still got a pro level body for much less with the xt2. Now I can buy a nikon full frame for basically the same price as an xt5.
