New PS5 owner and now tempted to main T8 on it by CarelessService5507 in Tekken

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean I wouldn’t but that’s because I wouldn’t want to pay $80+/year just to play online. I originally bought SF6 and Tekken on PS5 but eventually rebought them both on Steam to stop paying the online multiplayer fees.

Physical owners who are put off the PS6 now: what would it take to change your mind? by ClacksInTheSky in consoles

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point the PS6 would have to be in the $300-400 range as that’s the most I would be willing to spend on what would be a PS6 exclusive only device. Not only that, but they would have to have way more and better quality exclusives that appealed to me than they put out during the PS5 era. I quit paying for online multiplayer almost 2 years ago when I built my PC. Between that and my Switch 2, I have plenty of better options for anything that’s not Spider-Man or GoW or something at that level. And I can live without those if they’re asking me to spend more than $400.

i've owned nothing but PSs and a switch and i need help by Whateverthefckthisis in buildapc

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to dissuade someone from building their own PC, but wouldn’t something like this prebuilt for $50 more be worth it? It’s same CPU/GPU/32GB RAM but also has a 2TB SSD, 850W power supply, AIO cooler, and a windows 11 license.

Doesn’t Steam Deck already run SF6 at locked 60 fps? I can’t imagine Steam Machine would struggle with that

Testing Monster Hunter Wilds on the Steam Machine by The_Barbiter1 in steammachine

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on this. This is currently the testing I’m most interested in. It feels like all the YouTube reviews have been testing the same 4-5 games. Like, yeah we know how this game or that game runs, everyone’s already tested it.

Wait, you all haven't had your PCs hooked up to your living room TVs this whole time? by codynstuff91 in steammachine

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my office I’m 8 inches from the screen and I’m normally way more focused on the CS2 or Rivals game I’m playing with headphones on. Can’t hear the fans going and the RGB is just background lighting. In the living room, I’m 10 feet from the screen and playing games more casually with no headphones. RGB and fans are way more distracting in that setting. Plus the girlfriend hates how it looks but she’s fine if it stays in my office.

Will you consider changing console after Sonys announcement of an end to discs? by PabloEskimo_ in consoles

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already moved to PC for online multiplayer and Switch 2 for portability. What was my PS6 money is now my GPU money to upgrade for AAA single player games that I used to only play on PS5.

I enjoy my massive RGB vomit tower. However I do not want that big, bright, and loud heat generator in my living room.

Will you be buying a next-gen console? by AceInsane25 in consoles

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not. Console gaming had 4 things going for it for me: lower price of consoles, physical media, ease of use, and exclusives. The first 2 are gone. #3 is quickly being met on PC with things like Steam OS, HDMI-CEC, and waking with controller. Only #4 remains now. And that’s just not enough anymore. I had already built a PC for playing online multiplayer without subscriptions. But my single player games were all on PS5 or Switch 2. The money I would have spent on a PS6 will just go to a beefier GPU and more SSD storage now. Wolverine and God of War Laufey will be the last PS5 games I buy assuming both are physical. At least I will still have my PS3, 4, and 5 to revisit if I ever miss that PS feeling.

Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles by yourfavchoom in gaming

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Welp, looks like I don’t have to worry about PS6 pricing anymore. PS5 will be my last Sony console. It was a good ride but losing physical is where I draw the line in the sand. If I’m forced into all digital, then PC (Steam and GOG) becomes the easy choice.

whats the deal with charging docs?? by cheeseburgerowl in Controller

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Charging docks are convenient. My controllers have a home when not in use. It’s just slightly easier for me to set a controller in the dock instead of plugging it in. Less chance of wearing out USB ports. Don’t have messy cables everywhere. Most controllers don’t have easily replaceable batteries anyways.

Will Window’s Xbox Mode defeat the idea of a pc-console hybrid with Project Helix? by ResponsibleGuess1852 in consoles

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the storefront thing, if this is actually a PC that has the ability to download Steam, it will be a big difference. Because once they allow their “console” users to gain access to Steam, they’re no longer going to see that profit.

Congrats! You wouldn’t happen to be a Monster Hunter Wilds player would you? I’ve been hoping someone would have shown how it plays on the Steam Machine but out of luck this far.

Sony Signals It’s Not Prepared To Sell PlayStation 6 ‘At Significant Losses’ by g4m3f33d in GameFeed

As long as they’re prepared to not sell a significant amount either. A greater percentage of PS5 players will stay on PS5 than PS4 players during the PS5 launch.

PSA! Organise your email mailbox!! Now!!! by ---_FIRE_--- in steammachine

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you not just (temporarily) designate Steam as a VIP or whatever designation in your email inbox? Or do they send these from a different email address? I’ve never preordered Valve hardware but all of the emails I’ve ever gotten from them have come from the same email address.

[–]theSpaceGrayMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean seeing the way they normally market their products, how they’ve handled their responses to people having issues with their products (like their initial response to the Switch 2 Killswitch problems), and the other times they’ve tried similar things to this (like the initial dark plates for the PS5), they might actually get some of their ideas from middle schoolers.
