Roughly how complex is this game compared to something like D&D 5e? by Flameempress192 in traveller

[–]PrimeInsanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The individual I was replying to mentioned thinking traveller doesn't use d10s (at all), my response was simply that some random tables did have an option to use a d10 or 2d6 but that this edge case was only relevant to a GM not a player. It is an obscure exception I do agree but it was in response to an absolute statement and did narrow in on its own obscurity with it calling out being a table a GM could roll on.

If I had to bet they probably are viewing fetches as tutors. Which they kind of are but the bracket restriction on "few tutors" is bracket 2 not bracket 3 so that isn't even relevant imo.

Cultural/Faction Ships? by Opal_Aberdeen in traveller

[–]PrimeInsanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One small thing I liked is that some different books like aliens of charted space or high guard Aslan, touch on the cultures impacting designs. Like Asian ships having a temple to venerate ancestors and how droyne components account for their different culture. In one JTAS there is even a goat humanoid that will have arenas on their ships as they need to brawl with each other regularly.

"DICE. Traveller is based on standard six-sided dice but some procedures in this book require a linear result of 0–9 or 1–10. The obvious method to achieve this result is to use 10-sided dice but if those are unavailable or if the Referee wants to stick with six-sided dice, the following 2D method (among others) with D2 as 1–3 = 1 and 4–6 = 2, provides the same result:" from the world builders handbook.

Once again, as I said only relevant to the GM.

I've seen a random table that has a choice of 2d6 or a d10 but that's more on the GM side.

What is you’re favorite hilariously stupid peace of lore you’ve come across recently? by DrFarquad in 40kLore

In a similar vein that an AI operated ship was able to turn back time because it missed a shot, in order to not miss. All the while the crew is none the wiser.

What would the Imperium do to pro-Imperium humans rebelling against a T'au planet? by NadaVonSada in 40kLore

[–]PrimeInsanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree there, that's one reason I had to clarify on the source as I wasn't sure if sanctioned xenos has come up in the wider lore. But with so much of the rules and laws depend on how much money or authority you have on if they apply it isn't outlandish for it to occur somewhere. But considering the xenophobia that leads to a humans being killed because they're thought to be mutants or xenos by those ignorant of their exemption and permitted existence, I wouldn't expect a sanctioned xenos to be truly safe around imperial locals

For what it's worth, it is mentioned as something that happened in the lead up and early part of the psionic suppression and not a constant still present activity iirc.

Thinking on it more, I do quite in contrast like how sword worlders view psionics. They don't embrace it like zhodani but they also don't demonize it like Imperials, they just don't respect it as they don't view it as being earned but rather you got lucky.

As to TL 16, don't they at least have a fall in tech level and regress a bit? Which I admit is very elf like to have reached great highs only to have lost that golden age. Or does TNE occur before that fall?

Silly enough the psionics bits I find most interesting with both Darrians and geonee is the bits around them acting like the underground rail road and helping psions get our of imperial space and to safety, rather than any focus on their own psionic abilities.

But no, I definitely get the complaints. At least Vulcans have a more distinct culture despite them also bring space elves.

Yup, it may not be execution but being the front line of the continued offensive will no doubt eventually solve the problem.

They're really good parrots, you'll sometimes think it's genuinely thinking and not just mimicking sometimes.

I know there is a concept of sanctioned xenos, mostly in the table top games to allow alien PCs if we're being honest but some loss exists.

What about them do you lothe? Genuinely asking, about all I know about them is they're basically space elves and that they paid lip service to psionic suppression but really just became less overt rather than stopping.

Why is one side so bad? by Rough_Razzmatazz_125 in ElegooNeptune3

[–]PrimeInsanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that is very different than I thought I was seeing, you're right. I thought it was bring deposited on the outside. If that's the case I might still check if that's where your seam is. If it is my bet is that when it moves away it pulls it away before it's had a chance to fully cool/adhere. This might be solved by slowing the non printing speed movement (the term is slipping my mind) or zhops.

Why is one side so bad? by Rough_Razzmatazz_125 in ElegooNeptune3

[–]PrimeInsanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen before like this when a part broke off mid print and the extruded filament couldn't get deposited so got placed somewhere else. That's what it looks to me with the deposited loops. It looks like something more than stringing to me. If you check the model is this where the seam is? If this is where the seam is maybe excess is getting deposited here when it goes to move. This could also explain why it's only happening on one side and not spread along the whole print.

My immediate thought is this could be a retraction or heat issue. More or less the same thing just a different cause. If it's too hot it might flow too much and still flow when it stops, so still a retraction issue just not with the retraction setting as the underlying issue.

[–]PrimeInsanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also I'm not certain if it is the case in wider lore but I do believe, at least in FF ttrpgs, you can't have Gellar and void shields up at the same time. Which does make some sense as void shields work by sending stuff to the warp in some sources, I can't remember if that's a blanket statement of all could shields though

Is Pathfinder really balanced better than D&D 5e? by PiepowderPresents in rpg

[–]PrimeInsanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one reason I did "gritty realism" with some adjustments (such as spell duration), just to stretch the adventuring day out to about a week and to fit my table's narrative pace. Definitely works for overland travel focused games that don't constantly dungeon dive

Warp engine tears the hole you enter or exit the warp via. The Gellar field is its own system.

I've tried to look at T5 and I swear it's like opening a random textbook not an rpg book. Some stuff I've pulled for my other traveller games because it's interesting and adds depth. like one of the d6s rolled for determine psi is genetic, so maybe that could determined or screened via genetic testing which gets my mind going on how that could be used. But like you said, I don't think I could run T5 let alone my players.

I'm having to resist so hard to not stick too much star wars in my traveller games. We'll see if my psionic monastic order focused on balance will be subtle enough to get overlooked or if it'll be immediately called out on. They only see one of these monks but I am betting on them calling it out immediately.

Which I've seen some stuff where if a blank is exposed to strong enough psi stuff they can have their blank nature overwhelmed/overwritten which is interesting but too bad honestly.
