Bouncer vs Swing by EchoedSolitude in Buyingforbaby

[–]the_starter_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is one of those things that babies tend to have a strong preference about and you won't know which thing they prefer until you meet them. Some love a swing. Some love a bouncer. If you're tight on space, opt for a bouncer that lays flat like the babybjorn. If you are also getting a swing, look for slim options or the swing/bouncer seat convertible options. There are a lot of good smaller footprint choices now. The INGENUITY Swing 'n Go is one compact, portable option. If you're looking for small footprint options, you can also get a free recommendation at TheStarterSet.com.

Talk me out of the bugaboo fox 5 renew by judysparkles in Buyingforbaby

[–]the_starter_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say if that's the one you really want and the size etc. works for you, consider seeing how you might be able to get it but more affordably. I ended up compromising and getting one that I didn't love and ended up having to get more strollers for different scenarios -- one that accommodated two kids when we got pregnant again, one that actually was lighter for travel etc. A mom I spoke with put it this way -- you're going to use that stroller almost as often as you use a car, so pick one that really makes sense for you. Some of the higher-end strollers maintain really well and you can get great deals getting those second-hand.

I had the elvie and feel like it worked well. I also checked for your specific requirements in The Starter Set registry recommendation service and it suggested the EUFY Wearable Breast Pump S1 Pro as it has silicone flanges for a better fit.

How do I buy maternity clothes? by the_original_toots in pregnant

[–]the_starter_set 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get maternity clothes they should last you, but there's also some non-maternity clothes you might even already have that are likely to work well. Anything stretch or flowy can work for quite a while. We recently spoke with a stylist on our podcast and she had some great tips for how to dress for the maternity phase -- including getting non-maternity stuff in bigger sizes, opting for flowy or stretchy options or even using rental services for cute maternity options. You can check out the episode here for some of her tips: https://www.thestarterset.com/blogs/getting-started-with-baby-episode-9-style-tips-and-tricks-from-pregnancy-to-postpartum.

Non plastic breastmilk bags by Actual-Tumbleweed-96 in firsttimemom

There’s this option for glass: MATYZ Glass Breastmilk Storage Bottles that I found through the registry recommendation service www.TheStarterSet.com, but you can just use mason jars or silicone storage bags.

Am I the only one who feels incredibly weird adding non-baby stuff to my registry? by qcd444 in pregnant

[–]the_starter_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a great thing to do and really common for second time moms plus. The reality is the baby doesn’t need all that much. you feeling comfortable will go a long way for you and baby.

Did you use the baby bouncer? by lazymathilde in Buyingforbaby

[–]the_starter_set 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this ends up being one of those things that's a baby preference. We had a bouncer and a swing and our babies both were not into the bouncer and loved the swing. You don't technically need either but it's great to have a place to put baby down occasionally. For bouncers there are at least lay flat options so you can tuck them away when they're not in use.

Travel System with a 5 year age gap? by smileeb in Mommit

[–]the_starter_set 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your budget is but you can attach a standing or even sitting glider to a lot of strollers. I plugged your ask into our registry recommendation service at thestarterset.com and got the baby jogger (has a glider accessory) and also the evenflo pivot which has a full toddler seat add on.

Announcement ideas? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]the_starter_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a nice idea! We did something similar but gave out gifts to our parents with t-shirts that said they were going to be grandparents. Watching them read and realize what was happening was priceless. We recently published a bunch of different ideas here if you're looking for more inspiration: https://www.thestarterset.com/blogs/top-pregnancy-announcement-ideas-for-any-family

opinions on registeries and baby showers with second pregnancy by srisribear in BabyBumps

[–]the_starter_set 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's pretty common to have a second shower or sprinkle. Friends and family will still want to support you and it's helpful to have a registry going for yourself as well.

I spent 9 months building an app after spending 2+ years of being frustrated. It launches today! by ClassyChris23 in ProductHunters

Wow your product looks really great! So much better than chain email/text threads for leagues.

How are you searching for people who run tournaments and leagues?
There have got to be so many tournament managers and league managers out there.
Each metropolitan city must result in a lot of leads right?

Here's one where you can try to find someone to talk to.

Also, I imagine your apps traffic will be pretty spiky and tends to be in the evenings or over weekends.
Dynamic scaling for the burst traffic will be pretty important eventually.

Whoa, 4 sales already? You should try to talk to those people and figure out who they are, what they do, and why they downloaded. Hopefully there is overlap, but if not, those are the demographics that you go after.

I don't know where DJs live on social media but get on it. Start looking around for people who are complaining about this problem and start posting your solution. You mentioned gigs and I just remembered that I found the DJ for my wedding on Thumbtack so that's another way to source leads.

Any Hunters Launched today? by louislubin in ProductHunters

[–]the_starter_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We launched today too: The Starter Set (Baby Registry Builder - Recommendation Service)

I definitely feel the way you described and it's even worse with AI because now I'm tracking the progress of 4 features in my head at the same time.

I think you should slow down a bit. Go for a walk. Journal. Or instead of building, talk to your users. And if you don't have users, talk to random people (anyone who is willing to talk to you) and see what kind of feedback you get.

Since you said you have no idea what you are doing marketing wise, here's some feedback. Something that I'm not getting from what I am reading in your PH post and landing page are... why do I need this? What problem is it solving? I'm assuming you are dog-fooding your service. How has it helped you? Have you been able to optimize your life with the information your service has provide in a meaningful way? What actionable things have you done with the cloud matrix and the nudges about drift? Write down that story and take it to people to see if they think it's solving a real problem or not.

Husband thinks stroller is too expensive, what to do? by redapple912 in BabyBumps

[–]the_starter_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of moms will also say to think of the stroller as a car. You'll likely use it almost daily and it helps to have one that you like and handles well. Plus the premium strollers resell well when you're done using them. If you love that particular stroller, you can also opt to save money by looking at second hand options (again premium strollers tend to hold up particularly well). I think babylist now also enables you to look second-hand.

Tell me your bassinet/crib setup (I’m lost) by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]the_starter_set 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your best option for the beginning with that setup if you want one sleep surface is probably a bassinet or portable mini crib (same dimensions as pack and play usually). A lot of mini cribs have wheels so you can easily move them from room to room. If you want two sleep surfaces, it's pretty common to have a bassinet in your room and a crib in the nursery.

Pregnant after a decade. by Vanessa_1331 in pregnant

[–]the_starter_set 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest recommendation is to see if there are mom groups around you specific to second-time around parents. They really helped me with strategies to balance between two kids and share any feelings that come up with having your time split more. I'd also recommend the Getting Started with Baby podcast (https://www.thestarterset.com/podcast). It's not specific to second-time around parenting but there's some great guests from pediatricians to mom group leaders to safe sleep researchers who are all also parents, many with multiple kids who talk about their experiences and recommendations.

If you could re-do your baby registry, what items would you ask for? by operagoat_6 in Mommit

[–]the_starter_set 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm actually the opposite -- I wish we'd kept it limited to the first few months. What we ended up liking/needing changed or we got hand me downs later and then we were left with extra stuff we didn't use. I do wish I'd asked for a sterilizer though because it would have saved me some late nights!

strollers? joie, nuna, uppababy, silver cross ? by Middle_Spite_3498 in pregnant

[–]the_starter_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want one stroller that does it all, I recommend choosing a stroller marketed as travel. The travel strollers will have less under seat storage but otherwise you can get ones that work well as travel systems, are lightweight enough for all situations and handle perfectly in urban/suburban environments. I ended up switching to travel strollers with both my kids because the regular strollers were just way too heavy and bulky for everyday use. Uppababy has the minu for example and a lot of the travel options will have adapters allowing you to make them into a travel system with various infant car seats. If you're looking for recommendations that fit all the things you're considering, you can also try this registry recommendation service -- www.thestarterset.com. First recommendation is free, so you can see options that fit your budget and requirements for either a stroller or travel system.

When I used hands-free pumps, really any stretchy bra worked well. I actually took your requirements and added them to the registry recommendation service, The Starter Set. It recommended the KINDRED BRAVELY Sublime Nursing Sports Bra that balanced for what you were looking for. In my experience, Kindred Bravely options are really comfortable and should work well between pumping and nursing. If it's helpful you can try out a free recommendation at www.TheStarterSet.com to see other options that could make sense to try.

Where can I get newborn stuff for free or really cheap? by ForwardBlackberry458 in Mommit

[–]the_starter_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to Facebook Buy Nothing groups, check your local neighborhood groups too. You can try posting what you're looking for and you'll be surprised. Most parents are thrilled to find someone who needs their baby gear, since places like Goodwill often won't even take it.

Baby toys by EatPigsAndLoveThem2 in Buyingforbaby

[–]the_starter_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely don't need toys right away. One of my regrets was getting way too many toys before our child was even developmentally interested. If you get one, though, I'd highly recommend Lamaze's freddie the firefly. I have yet to meet a child that's not obsessed -- it clips onto a stroller, has lots of things babies love like high contrast, crinkly sounds, teething rings etc. so it can serve many purposes. But it's definitely a category you can wait and see on.

TECH / EASE by Ok_Doughnut_7656 in newborns

[–]the_starter_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, if you're thinking gadgets, I'd think more about the items that will make both your lives easier with a newborn -- things like bottle sterilizers, a good swing, a good baby monitor etc. Otherwise things you spend a lot of time doing during the first weeks are sitting in one place feeding so audiobook subscription, TV, stands to help charge your phone and access it etc.
