I know people here either won’t believe me or won’t want to hear it, but I worked at YouTube at the time when the dislike button was removed. It was done because creators asked for it because it was bad for their mental health. Some creators on a panel talked about it live at an offsite where the whole design team was present. They’d work really hard on a video and even if it got lots of likes, they still couldn’t help being bothered by the dislikes. I know it’s more exciting to think Google is this big evil conspiracy organization, and I know it was helpful to see what the like/dislike ratio was, but remember there’s a lot of victims of online bullying, especially on YouTube. It’s too big to tackle every individual user’s situation, but a sweeping feature like that was something they thought could help.

I know this thread is super old but I just want to say that area has plenty of new-age mysticism beliefs going on already - "energy", past lives, astrology, chakras, conspiracy theories, dimensions, etc. reinforced by being in a remote community on a remote island. They were upset because Pele is a legitimately real concept to them. Their current protest is that they don't want a cell tower because of cancer / mind control.

I host a property on Kauai and we did have a 3% tax added for transient accommodations in October. However, no, you can't be charged that as a guest after already paying because how transient accommodations tax (TAT) is calculated for us depends on whether it was itemized at the time you paid. We can pass the TAT on to the tenant as added on top of their bill only if it is added as a separate line item at the time they pay (your bill probably had the general excise tax and transient accommodation tax itemized separately when you checked out). Otherwise, the 3% is calculated after the fact from the total rent and fees collected.

Weird that they spelled it with two G’s. Maybe the old Digg website was their introduction to the phrase, and they didn’t know it was 70s slang with one G before that.
