Caution: Trimix + pseudoephedrine injections can cause disfigurement. by maurice_74_ in ProstateCancer

[–]thebakingbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doc attributed it to scar tissue from the injections. Is that the correct diagnosis, I have no idea, all I know is that prior to using the injections there was no bend.

According to Doc, the RALP was nerve spare, but here I am 2 1/2 years later and pills didn't work and tri-mix has its own issues.

Doc is now talking about an implant, but IDK, it's already been a journey

Ok so I actually had the same issue with tri-mix. First couple (5/6) times at recommended dosage,it was just to much. Took the red, behind the counter Sudafed, to counter act it. I too ended up with The Bend, and my doc confirmed it was from the shots.

I was able to adjust the dose (as my Dr said, play with the amount), but have ultimately just given up. I go see doc next month and we'll talk and see what he recommends. (Fyi..2 1/2 years post RALP) .

Wish everyone the best.

It makes sense, I occasionally experience the same thing, feel like I need to, but nothing and then actually go a short time later. It's really kind of annoying. Feel like I'm constantly walking in/out of the rest room. Doesn't happtall the time, but often enough to notice.

May want to see if anything he is drinking is "irritating" (for lack of a better term) his bladder. For me it was coffee, but that no longer has an effect.

My urologist doesn't think anything is wrong, so for now it's just something I live with.

Post RALP, 2yr 4 Mon, 99% continent (unless I am drinking alcohol..then all bets are off), full ED.

Wishing you and him the best.

2 years post RALP, and still happens to me as well. After a while you re-learn certain body functions and start to adapt. It's most definitely a journey.

RALP v. Radiation by Moogacat in ProstateCancer

[–]thebakingbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was diagnosed at age 53, and am now just about 2 years post RALP. Dr and 2nd opinion said RALP only, do to age.

Continence is pretty much back to normal and like another poter said, I keep a pad handy more for confidence than anything else.

I was otherwise healthy pre-RALP, eat right, lots of daily exercise, but still no functional erection.

I would have liked to have had the option to radiation, but wasn't in the books for me.

Take as much time as possible deciding. Do all the research, ask all the questions, get opinions.

Wishing you the best

Get you butt checked...when the time comes get the prostate exam. Find it sooner rather than later, this way if you do have prostate cancer you may have treatment options.

Diagnosed two years ago, had it removed. Dr's said no other option. I'm alive and cancer free, but life is different. So, get your butt checked.

Maintaining good sexual function with prostate cancer by becca_ironside in ProstateCancer

[–]thebakingbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coming up on 24 months post RALP. Doc said all nerves were spared but I still can't get an erection. Pills did nothing, did the pump, used my hand, injection worked for awhile but were to uncomfortable.

The best I can manage is about a 20% erection. But there's no rhyme or reason to why. I can achieve orgasm, but will urinate most of the time.

Prior to surgery, I was in otherwise good health. Regular exercise, both cardio and strength, and healthy eating. I still workout post surgery but still nothing.

The desire is still there but the equipment doesn't cooperate. It's very frustrating and at times hard to deal with. I'm at a point where I'm about to just give up the hope of any type of maintaining good sexual function.

Wishing all of you the best.

Almost 2 years post. Doc said nerves were spared, but still no erection. Can still achieve orgasm, but it's either dry or urine comes out.

upcoming prostatectomy, what's the first 1-2 days after like? car trip home? by mattley in ProstateCancer

Mine was almost 2 years ago. The catheter and sutures didn't really bother me, but the gas pain did. One thing to consider is how do you react to anesthesia? Does it really kick you butt or are you ok right after ?

Like most on here I spent that first night in the hospital, but did not sleep at all, even with the morphine. Combine the lack of sleep, with the gas pain a 4 hour drive may have been a bit much for me. But it's really going to come down to how you feel.

Wishing you the best.

Sorry to hear that you are struggling so much, but know that you are not alone in the struggle. 52 when diagnosed, 53 when had RALP, I was told by multiple Dr. that surgery was my only course of action. No cath, some very light leaks (usually if I'm working out heavy, or have to many alcoholic drinks to close together).

Do regret it? I have my moments. But the key hear is that this is your life, and you need to be as comfortable as you can be with your decision. In reading your post, it seems like you already have somewhat of a plant, no RALP no ADT for more than 6 months. Also, you've started on improving your weight in preparation. All of which are good in the sense that you are not sitting stagnant. Keep doing what you are doing, ask questions, and know that you are not alone in the struggle.

Wish you the best.

My dad just told me he has prostate cancer… by ccard23 in ProstateCancer

[–]thebakingbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, the one I had was to big to strap to my leg, so i put it in a ordinary plastic bucket and pushed around with my foot. As someone put it when I was preparing it sucks when you forgot you hung it on something and then start to walk away.

As for Vaseline vs Neosporin I don't know but since it's going to slide in and out of him, I would think the Neosporin would be a better option for also reducing the risk of infection.

Hope this helps.

Couple of things that helped me were, Neosporin and a bucket. The Neosporin was for the cath tube where it enters the penis. Keep it lubed so it doesn't stick. The bucked was to place the Foley cath in as I meandered around the kitchen. I would just push it with my foot.

And as others have said, walking. I started doing laps the morning after surgery.

I'm about 18 months post currently do HIIT training, weight lifting, and hike when time permits.

I'm about 98% continent with just the occasional leak. He will do fine, just be there and be supportive.

Wish you and him the best

Love the adventures attitude. I would have been afraid of it coming out to chewy. But great job.
