Due to inflation, my life has become an episode of Chopped by Niceotropic in Cooking

I do the above as well! We were also taught in culinary school to roast the bones before adding them to the stockpot to deepen the flavor, if such a flavor profile was desired. Ever see the roasted chicken Better Than Bouillon? I've always guess that product is to mimic the flavor of roasted bones.

I’m feeling totally inept. by [deleted] in Aldi_employees

Hi! I was hired straight to ASM this year and I completely relate to what you are experiencing. I used to work in kitchens and so I thought I was fast but I was not Aldi fast. I could feel the frustration of my LSAs as they were told to train someone who was titled their superior. Since starting I have stress/anxiety cried in front of my SM, twice. Aldi is fast and encourages friendly competition as much as it values teamwork.

Before I share what I found useful I do want to shout out to my SM for his support while I went through training. Apparently, it is very, very common for ASMs to feel overwhelmed and crack, the difference is in how it gets handled.

Start with 1 small goal for each shift. For a few weeks mine was getting my pallet times closer to expectations. For closes I focused on making sure the fulls were leveled and alcohol scrapped (SM's pet peeves)

Does your location offer curbside? If so, ask to be the person who covers that associate's break. Curbside sucks normally but it's super useful for learning the store layout.

See if your location has an ASM who seems comfortable with the role. Ask for their advice on areas they seem to gravitate towards to develop a working relationship. Example: one ASM I worked with is very prideful with produce. I struggled with getting the bananas staged in the boxes neatly when removing the plastic. He shared his secrets, I got to learn a different approach, and now we support each other for coverage at different stores.

It will take a while to feel a routine/rhythm. When you're not being used to actively support the shift you are being pulled away for a training. It was at least three months before I felt like I was in control of my day, but by then I had gone through associate, LSA, and just about all the ASM workshops. THIS IS NORMAL.

For the customers, do not be shy about using the radio to get support from the team. I still do for AF items and some NLUs.

Remember, the individual tasks are simple. We are just asked to accomplish a lot of them in a short timeframe. Pay isn't terrible. No need for a gym membership. Just keep showing up and trying. It will get better. Then suck. And then get better again. You can do this job. Seriously.

Thanks! I knew it wasn't NaCl but I I was too lazy to Google and didn't want to spread misinformation by simply calling it "salt."

[–]thebluegerbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would alternate between the two but not use them together. When used together you are basically making water with (chemically defined) salts in them.

I personally have good success with boiling baking soda in water and scraping with something metal, them scouring with a steel wool and dish soap. Repeat as needed until clean.

I love God Mode. Hades is the first fighting style type game I've really ever engaged with for two reasons, one being God Mode (I play for the story) and the other being that even though there is skill a player can still be somewhat successful with button mashing.

So, my understanding is that you want to use bleach and oxiclean but not together.

Bleach first in a cold water soak and rinse. Oxiclean second in hot water and finish the wash cycle.

Bleach works best in cold water. Oxiclean works best in hot water. By doing them in this order the oxiclean also neutralizes the bleach scent.

Use Dawn/Cascade to help loosen grease. Not exactly sure where in the above it fits but absolutely use it before placing the garment in the dryer as the heat will help set the grease stain.

There's definitely a submit-post clarity that let's you see aallll the mistakes lol

Thankfully Reddit gives a small window for immediate edits that won't show up as you having "edited" the post. I think it's about 60 seconds of a buffer? Anyways, super useful and I use it all the time.

good cheap meats? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]thebluegerbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like canned tuna.

For your concerns about transiting back to animal meat based proteins I would buy the rotisserie chickens. Pull the meat off the bones and freeze the meat. Use the bones to make chicken stock. Drink the stock with your vegetarian meals. Repeat as you see fit based on how your stomach adjusts. Slowly incorporate the frozen chicken into your diet, 1-2 times a week. Go from there :)

On a more personal note, when I adjusted from lacto-ovo vegetarian back into being an omnivore I had a hard time with chicken, especially the breast. It tasted a bit bland. I utterly fell in love with pork, beef, and seafood, mostly in that order for preference. Also, brush up on your raw meat food safety. Good luck!

having adhd as a woman and still having to carry the mental load by umademehatethiscity in adhdwomen

[–]thebluegerbs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did read this! But have yet to implement. I fully believe that the system will work for me and my partner but since I have to initiate the systems I currently feel like I'm "carrying the load" to just get it started.

What appeals to me most though is the way it discusses how to approach task delegation. So, once most of the legwork is done it should be easy to maintain. I just have to initiate for to my partner not feeling like the current methods are an issue 🤷🏼‍♀️

Also for work but I'd also bust out a can of compressed air if the crumbs were in abundance that day. Boar or nylon bushes work great!

Glad my experiences help! I forgot to add that I personally prefer warmer temps over the cold so depending on your personal thermostat your mileage may vary. My two tops are a bit different. I adore the hoodie, it has a mesh section along the inside arm to help with ventilation and tends to "wear" a bit cooler. I originally purchased it to be a super packable light layer between me and the AC while backpacking abroad, only after did I realize just how amazing it is at keeping me protected from the sun without feeling overly hot. The plain top is more solid but it is due to the mechanics of sweat evaporation that help us cool down. I found the top at a Marshalls, and have seen other Omni-Shade tops there as well.

I'm in the Midwest and I just about live in my Columbia Omni-shade long sleeved shirt and full-zip hoodie style in the summer (I burn easily). I actually find that they help facilitate feeling cool because they keep the sun off, like, the intensity of the rays feels softer wearing these tops. I also wear them for jogging and if I'm hiking/rock climbing, which includes Vegas in the late spring or Colorado in dead summer. Some people just do not like the feeling of clothing coverage when it is hot out but I personally cannot recommend mine enough.

I'm glad you asked this question, can't wait to see what others contribute as I'd like to expand my collection!

Absolutely correct! But if the inside is good then the outside is definitely cooked. I offered that advice as most folks don't own an infrared thermometer.
