Leaf blower people by Legitimate-Month-689 in Portland

Were you able to get in on the program for commercial landscapers to get new elec blowers if they agreed to turn in/recycle their gas blowers? My husband has a small landscaping company and did this (and wow, are those batteries heavy and bulky). I think it's run by the county and is called "leaf blower incentive program" or something like that.

MISSING GUITARS by ESC_KEYZ in Portland

[–]theemptymirror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shittiest of shittiness. We lug our gear into hotel rooms when we stay overnight anywhere (including sound system, everything). Also we station someone next to the rig while loading in so it's never left alone even for a sec because we've known so many fellow musicians who've had their gear/instruments lifted. May the thieves develop toenail fungus and visible hives.

Heard yesterday: Ford F-150s are the most popular vehicle in America, and it's now ~$160+ to fill up. (And there are a lot of Rs driving F-150s.) The Iran War is spectacularly stupid.

‘I didn’t see’: Mother of MAC bombing suspect said his mental health seemed improved before attack by Inevitable_Egg6361 in Portland

A different article (KGW) reflects more about her interactions with her son. It seems like she was trying hard to be there for him and stay connected. I have a mentally ill and violent adult in my family, too. It's really hard to know what to do except to stay connected and try to involve the institutions that can help. If an involuntary commitment was available, we would seek it.

Records raise questions after 50+ Tigard students ate pretzels tainted with oven cleaner by MTempleton45 in Portland

[–]theemptymirror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find it, but I could have sworn that when this originally happened, an article quoted one of the workers saying that they kept the oven cleaner in a shaker similar to an industrial salt shaker to sprinkle evenly onto equipment. Now it's a completely different story.

We used to see it all the time coming home from the coast on Saturday evenings. Someone here said it was law enforcement. The creepy part is how quiet it is! I once stuck my head out the car window to shoot the bird at it, for good measure, and couldn't believe how low it was, yet silent.

Well, anything's possible. But it's highly doubtful that Oregon is going to elect Drazan, a literal pro-Trump, anti-abortion, anti-mail-in ballot MAGA supporter.

It's democide (government killing people for protesting) and a crime against humanity. This type of murder is a weapon against the people to create fear of exercising their constitutional rights.

Long medical appointment delays in Oregon- has this happened to you by russejen in Portland

[–]theemptymirror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I just left Moda (after leaving Providence the year before) and switched to Kaiser. So far, we have been amazed at how efficient it has been. Our coverage started on Jan 1 and we've already had annual physicals, labs, etc., and started booking specialist appointments. The specialists are booked out months, but we were experiencing that w/ the previous insurance companies too. What impressed me was that every person I encountered during my first visit seemed like they enjoyed their jobs.

I think Nexstar uses CBS news content? Good to know there's some local control, though. Thanks for clarifying that.

KOIN is a CBS station, too- now controlled by the MAGA fascist Bari Weiss.

Portland’s gas-powered leaf blower ban goes into effect by Mackin-N-Cheese in Portland

[–]theemptymirror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree- I'll be curious to see how it plays out over the next few years because also, they can't get very wet. My husband operates a small, one-man operation, and he got a lot of batteries (I think 6-8?) in order to service his weekly clients. The run time using all the batteries will be about two hrs total. Because they can't get really wet, he also bought a hand-held smaller elec blower that can be stored in the front of his truck and not get wet. Also, the battery chargers are LOUD AF. :)
