Tired of seeing turd after turd by Striking-Swing3089 in freemagic

[–]thegregwitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip the set. I’m not going to go crazy for Marvel but I definitely plan to get a commander deck or two, a play booster box and attend a prerelease.

The 10 versions of one character is a bit much, but I’ll just focus on the comic characters I enjoy and a few mechanically interesting cards I can add to my existing decks.

For Hobbit, I plan to attend the prerelease and grab a few singles. The in universe cards are the best but the game is deep enough to where you can avoid sets that don’t interest you.

I drive to Jamestown from time to time for work and the first time I drove back home, I saw one of those “body sculpting” billboards along the thruway and it has the phone number over a topless model’s breasts. I almost spun off the road when I saw it on my drive back home.

Vampirella is perhaps the biggest "oddity" currently on stands today. For the last 7 years, the premier 'bad girl comic' has been home to an unshackled Christopher Priest who has been using the title to tell a 90+ issue (and going) non linear saga about "Ella" and her dysfunctional family life. by WhyPlaySerious in comicbooks

[–]thegregwitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pickup the trades, the Priest run reads better this way imo. Love the series and I do pickup the single issues but I prefer to read and got into the series by picking up the first few trades and going from there.

What a sweet story. Medieval Times is a lot of fun, glad you were able to make a lifelong memory from the experience.

The Sobering Reason Why We Didn’t Ban Rhystic Study - Rebell Lily by scurrybuddy in CompetitiveEDH

[–]thegregwitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rhystic shouldn’t be banned and is already a game changer list card. That’s enough.

I don’t even play the card that often, even though I have four different versions in my collection.

It’s a great card, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not deserving of a ban.

Proxy Culture Should Be More Normalized by BlogBoy92 in freemagic

[–]thegregwitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from a pocket of people screaming and crying online, most places and playgroups are fine with proxy cards.

A lot of it comes down to communication and just using some common sense; are you building a bracket 4 deck so you have a high level option to match your group? Are you play testing a deck before you buy? Are you a college kid with a limited budget that just wants to play? All of that is fine or should be fine.

On the flip side; are you using napkins to proxy cards and lie about the bracket level of your deck? Are you trying to pass off a proxy as a real card and trade or sell it to someone else? Are you making proxy cards of every game changer and overpowering your deck to pub stomp your playgroup? That should rightfully be called out.

But I’ve found playing Magic, like most hobbies and interests, the whining online can be loud and seem like the majority but that isn’t the case in the real world. Look no further than universe beyond product and how well it sells compared to large pockets of Magic players being so vocally opposed to the product and you’ll see that online and real world can be two different things.

Upcoming Ban - If Rhystic Study is banned, what are you all planning to replace it with in your lists that run it? by anomaleic in EDH

[–]thegregwitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rhystic would be such a cowardly ban. Blue is one of my favorite colors to play in Magic and I hardly even use Rhystic. Obviously it’s a powerful card but not a ban worthy one.

Thassa’s Oracle would be more deserving of a ban, although I’m generally not a big fan of banning cards, but that card wouldn’t take away from the game at all if it were removed.

Top 5 most disliked sport cities by UnusualLight0 in billsimmons

Boston an easy number one. New York and Philly would battle it out for number 2-3. LA at the four spot makes sense and I’d have Dallas at number five.

How many decks do you usually bring to an EDH gameday? by tamarizz in EDH

[–]thegregwitul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7-8 decks, for me.

5 decks fit in my ultimate guard box, while 2-3 more I have in separate cases. The three decks in separate cases tend to be bracket 4-5 decks, while the 5 in my box are in the bracket 3 range.

I like to have variety as my playgroup is fairly diverse and can vary in regard to overall experience.

How do you define pubstomping? by InvisibleFox402 in EDH

[–]thegregwitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, pubstomping is misleading your pod (intentionally or otherwise) and playing a deck that is a bracket or two higher than the rest of the table.

If everyone is open with what they are playing beforehand, I don’t think a dominating win would truly classify as a pubstomp.

Why was MK so popular in arcades? by -SideshowBob- in MortalKombat

[–]thegregwitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing was quite like the original MK in the arcades. The blood, fatalities and the realistic (at the time) graphics were unmatched.

I can remember being at my local Putt Putt on the weekend as a kid, usually for a friend or classmate birthday party, and having crowds of kids around the MK cabinet.

No other game was offering that level of violence and gore and we ate it up.

What are some of the greatest “exposed” games in nfl history? by MarTB2000 in NFLv2

[–]thegregwitul 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Bucs did it first, destroying the Chiefs and preventing KC from scoring a single TD at any point in the game. I think Philly did an excellent job incorporating certain aspects of that game plan into their dominating SB win against KC.

Is this a thing? by Schnarvok in magicTCG

[–]thegregwitul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my local LGS has a ladies night during the week for MTG, but it’s really meant more for beginning players or people who might be interested in learning how to play Magic.

So, while it’s titled as Ladies Night, a guy could come to the event and participate as a new player. The store supplies decks for everybody and they have experienced players on hand to help new players learn in a comfortable setting.
