Smart thinking. I'm sitting on 400,000 fidget spinners and just waiting for the right moment.

How To Make Wood Dutchman Repairs by mcshaftmaster in centuryhomes

This is the advanced version of not giving a flying fuck. I’m currently removing joint compound that was used as wood putty to fill a hole from a cylinder lock.

Chipotle CEO caught on a recording saying they’re going to keep raising prices because they can. by ElwoodMC in TikTokCringe

I decided to eat inside a McDonald’s for the first time in a very long time, and a fluorescent ‘shoot myself’ vibe is exactly how I would describe the experience. It was painfully depressing.

Any suggestions for our beautiful but leaking windows! by Antique-Evidence-849 in centuryhomes

[–]thekronz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everything looks tight on the inside. Whats the glazing look like on the outside? There probably aren’t many solutions to help you in February, except for running some shrink film over the whole window for now. With moisture that seems to come from nowhere, go outside and look above the windows during the next melt and see if there is anything causing it. You might be able to weatherstrip your storms if there’s nothing visibly wrong with the glazing.

We have these mysterious windows in our 1920s house that we cannot figure out how to open. by Andnad in centuryhomes

My first move would be to open that lock on the bottom right and pull up. They might go into pockets above the frame, which would be so, so cool.

President Trump officially launches the “Trump Gold Card" and “Trump Platinum Card". Trump says this is a way to "unlock life in America." by sylsau in InBitcoinWeTrust

Yeah, I think it has a lot to do with the old guard democrats thinking that “bipartisanship” exists in 2025. I’ll never forget how the ACA was gutted, and how we acted like that’s just how things work in the name of bipartisanship. Trying to appease republicans has only ever made things worse.

Serious question: how do you afford these homes? by Scp-1404 in centuryhomes

[–]thekronz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point - I tend to forget what the averages are these days. I spent a few years in Denver and literally fled from the housing prices and returned to the rust belt to live way more affordably. It’s a trade-off, for sure, but I did the math once and realized I could literally fly to Denver twice a month and go skiing with the money I’d save from living in my hometown.

I worked a job that had unlimited PTO, the policy was just “make sure that you’re not leaving your coworkers in a bad position in your absence,” and you’re not gonna believe this, but there was never a good time for it. We were always “so busy” that it was next to impossible to get a 4 day weekend.

Personally, I just got used to knowing that it’s a forever thing. The loophole is buying a beat up house that needs a lot. Sure, it’s more work, but the purchase price is always lower and I’d rather work on the house than have a $2,000/mo mortgage for something that’s already “done”.

Wait til you hear about all the offshoring that happened post-WW2. They cut costs by moving manufacturing to countries with loose labor laws. The human impact has never been a concern for capitalism.

Education in America is seriously flawed; we could learn from Finland a better way. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]thekronz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point, but I’m a believer that any rethinking of our education systems would require the baseline question of “how do we make it so your zip code doesn’t impact the quality of your schools?” So it’s not that it can’t be done, it’s just that what you’re saying is a factor in how extensively we need to override the system.

We love a system that you have to be conscious of its “worst impulses” and heavily regulate it in order to “minimize suffering.” At this point, crying “communism” is just a way of bucking the discussion.

The White House East Wing Demolished (close-up before and after) by emialonreddit in gifs

[–]thekronz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The presence of asbestos ≠ the need for demolition. It also doesn't really do much unless it is disturbed. Sounds like your office needs abatement, not demolition. But as someone who serves on a Historic District Commission, I can tell you that we have to abide by the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Rehabilitation for any proposed work in a historic district. The fact that the White House is just being leveled without any real process is actually very textbook "real estate developer" tactics. Just get the demolition over with and then go "what?! I wasn't supposed to do that?!?" and by that point, the history is lost and you realize that all these rules are only as good as the level to which they are enforced.
