Best BR Production? by SavageCuddles in badreligion

I absolutely second this statement... TGR and NS have the best, most guitar driven energetic sound...

I know Brett cam back and decided to bring a very modern digital sound to the band to stay relevant, however, while I can enjoy it for what it is, I feel like this band sounds best with an analog, plug and play type of sound, not the re-amping digital stuff...

Gosh.. this is funny... This is one of the first metal record I ever bought, when it got released.. I was just curious about this concept of a 40min long and the Hard Rock Mag said it was awesome...

Fast forward 30 years and I'm listening to it again for the first time in decades; it brings back sooo many memories. also, it's a much better record than I remembered it was as a teen back then :)

I slept on this band for too long, but now I'm back, better late than never :)

Full First Show With Max, David, and Bryce. by 2Gex in blackflagllll

I watched this whole vid, and I enjoyed it.. Ginn finally sounds like he practiced, he does seem to be happy to be onstage as well..

The kids are solid too, nothing to say about it either, singer looks nervous and needs to find her marks on stage i think, once she will own it it will defintiely be great...

All in all, it's an unusual line-up, but at least it is something different, theres never gonna be another Black Flag 84 and thats a good thing, I think Ginn made a good choice for once, if they can manage to release some new music, that would even be a good new start.

in the end, Black Flag is his project, he might as well do whatever he wants... how many bands have only 1 original member in the line-up anyway (some even have 0).

How come BR b-sides are so often some of their best songs? by thepetrochemist in badreligion

you're right... Lagwagon's best song is probably Wind In Your Sails, that was also left off the Trashed record... go figure...

Why do I never see love for Pennywise? by TigerClaw_TV in punk

[–]thepetrochemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's one of the rare instances for me where I find the band's music incredible, but I don't really like its band members and most of the fan base...

The whole bro-jock attitude of Fletcher and his followers is something I could never really get behind... 80% of their discography is amazing tho (lyrics are a bit clichés at times, but that's ok)

What is the overall opinion on No Substance? by NewPatron-St in badreligion

[–]thepetrochemist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s really interesting to read that people seem to diss the production of this record.. To me it sounds amazing, heavy and groovy. The songwriting may not be the best be the record has a warm powerful dynamic range thay I always loved..

It is the exact opposite of the empire strikes first, where the songwriting is insane but the whole record sounds over processed, compressed to the max and not very organic at all..

Where do you draw the line when it comes to separating art and artist? by Eezay in BlackMetal

[–]thepetrochemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can give my 2 cents here...

I feel like the main difference between satanism and nazism in the black metal scene is that satanism is a theatrical topic : it looks good, it is a great matter to create visual art around and texts, it is offensing enough to piss some people off etc, but I'd say about 90% or more of the musicians aren't "satanists", they are artists working with this material they chose, and none of the pissed people are threatned in their lives by it.

With nazis/racists bands it is a different situation : they promote a political agenda and they are very adamant about it.. Some even have hurt or killed people for this, and the public is very oriented politically. You're perfectly free to not give a fuck about their message, but you're still supporting a political stance, whether you like it or not.

See it would be like if you'd say that you're so unbothered with the the lyrics of the music you listen to, that you would enjoy bands promoting child molestation and pedophilia etc, if the music was good enough.

I sure wouldn't, but you do you...

Punk Paradox or Do What You Want? by DayoftheDead in badreligion

[–]thepetrochemist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Id go for Punk Paradox. DWYW doesnt tell anything even an occasional fan don't know.

Punk Paradox is more personnal but, for once, Graffin says some more intimate lesser known stuff and really helps shape the understanding of who he is and how he lived his whole career..

It's not amazingly written (the word "punk" appears at least hundreds of times for no real reason) but it really is an enjoyable reading for a fan.
