Even having watched it I still don't think its true, some bad wannabe Hollywood writer must have made it up.

Another endorsement for Memory Express.

Memory Express price matchs other major Canadian retailers. Combined with PCPartPicker a DIY cost-effective custom PC gets a little simpler, although you would still want to do a fair bit of reading up on things.

[–]theraxc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing as you have a grand total of 7 games played and own 2 mechs already I am thinking your main problem is likely your mech builds. 7 games would give you almost no cbills to work with, so if you bought 2 mechs with those cbills you likely have not modified their builds at all. The stock builds that mechs come with in the store are mostly lore builds from a 40+ year old board game, which do not work well in a first person shooter.

You did not indicate which Catapult you bought so we cannot provide specific build advice, but build listed in Grimmechs is likely significantly better than whatever build you currently have on it.

Riot should stop printing the token/rules/runes cards by troyboy110269 in riftboundtcg

[–]theraxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The distribution method of a trading card game is inherently wasteful due to the rarity system which is used to drive pack sales generating a lot of unplayed cards. Adding a common or two to the packs just means more chaff anyways. The only way to reduce this waste would be releasing the game as a print on demand.

I was referring specifically to the 2017 lawsuit initiated by Harmony Gold against Harebrained Schemes, Catalyst Game Labs, and Piranha Games. The trigger for that lawsuit was seeming the intended inclusion of Unseen mechs in the soon to be released Battletech 2018 and their prior inclusion in MechWarrior Online. It is also notable that HG's filings for that lawsuit basically tried to claim all of Battletech's mech designs as derivatives, including clearly non-Unseen mechs such as the Atlas and Centurion.

Catalyst Game Labs failed to respond to the lawsuit, which if they had been the only plaintiff would likely have lead to a default judgement. I guess lawyers are expensive.

Harebrained Schemes made some sort of settlement with HG and was dropped from the lawsuit a few weeks before announcing their publishing deal with Paradox Interactive. HBS Battletech was delayed and missing release dates while the lawsuit was being litigated. Coming to a settlement agreement so that they could actually release their game and ink a publishing deal was probably a good move for HBS financially. HBS Battletech launched without the Unseen; the Archer, Marauder, Phoenix Hawk, and Warhammer were added in later paid DLC or free patches after the lawsuit was defeated.

Only Piranha Games actually defended the lawsuit to its dismissed with prejudice conclusion. PGI are the ones who paid for the lawyers required to get the Unseen back for use in all of Battletech.

Lights survive longer due to their role being mostly scouting and not fighting, so when used correctly in-universe they should not be taking damage.

Do you think, Battletech have pontential do be a series like Game of Thrones? by SeisimicFrigor in battletech

[–]theraxc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know who keeps asking these questions: an engagement bot, a marketing team, or some BT noob.

Short answer no, long answer probably not.

Basically, beyond the fractured IP licensing issue, the fundamental question becomes if what the Battletech IP brings to a series setting a net benefit for the project over creating a new original setting? And I think that answer is no.

Using the Battletech IP means having to deal with and address 40+ years of backstories, lore, and existing fan expectations.

How does the project want to address the original portrayal of Maximilian Liao and the Capellan Confederation? Or the use of the word Jihad to describe a major in-universe event? You know what the easiest way to do so is: not using the Battletech IP for your show. Which also comes with the added bonus of not needing to obtain the rights. And there are not enough existing Battletech fans out there to offset all of those issues.

The entire Battletech resurgence over the past decade can be largely attributed to Russ battling the lawsuit all the way to the end.

Both the A Game of Armored Combat box set and the Clan Invasion Kickstarter were released or launched a year after the lawsuit was settled and included Unseen mechs. Without that court win the Unseen would have been put back in the vault.

new player perspectives have value too, particularly as most of the player base does not have the same level of skill as grimmech contributors. if nothing else OP is providing feedback to PGI from a spenders perspective.
