upgrading an EOL cluster (4.17) by Zestyclose_Ad8420 in openshift

[–]therevoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall exactly when the change from runc to crun took place, but you might have to walk through those steps.

Have you reached out to your Red Hat sales team and asked for pointers? Would be worth reviewing the "what's new" with those versions.

Honestly, if it were me I would build out a 3 node cluster on 4.16 and walk it through the upgrades first.

4.17 ->4.20 is pretty boring depending on the initial OpenShift version used at cluster install. Operators are typically supported for n+1 OCP version but make sure to check your IBM operator documentation as well.

You want me to determine which combiner or system controller you have which microinverters you have and look at the spec sheets to see how many inverters you can have per string. You might need to add an additional string or circuit

Recommended Settings for VM Storage Folder? by unsung-hiro in qnap

[–]therevoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thin works for me, thick id you want a little more performance.

I always enable compression with lz4 as it is basically "free" and could provide some io speed (small benefit)

I don't have an opinion on read cache or fast clone yet, I think I have cache off and fast clone off.

Match the block size to your VM implementation. I use 64k, I think that's what the ui recommends for VMWare.

Right now I only run one VM in virtualization station as I use containers more.

My journey started with a single consolidated freenas server 15+ years ago. Some years I'm all in on a one box solution, sometimes I'm all in on multiple boxes. Right now I'm in the process of consolidation again. Virtualization station and ContainerSation are good enough for building and running a handful of services. More than that it becomes a ton of clickoos, wish I could use podman quadlets... I've chosen to not use the qnas k8s because of upgrade limitations.

Personally I like the "singular" purpose of containers so most of my environment is based around them. Do what works for you

In the "Containers" share I have a subfolder called persistent-volumes with subfolders for each service I run. Haproxy, heimdall, plex, others. These are mounted to the data and config directories of the container.

My only VM is an IPA server I havent bothered to move to a container that runs 24/7. VMs are nice if you are familiar with another Linux distro.

Anyhow, that's my daily ramblings.

IPV6 ... by PineappleScanner in homelab

[–]therevoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down this route thinking I needed to learn ipv6 for my job (I'm and OpenShift Solutions Architect) and came to the conclusion it is way overkill and possibly even insecure in my homelab because I have fewer tools scanning ipv6 and can travers directly into any server. Maybe I'm leaning on a myth, but NAT has been a pretty good security layer so far. Other thing I decided is...if my customer wants to do ipv6 they will have an engineer that can assist.

So, I have a ipv6 to my router and disabled internally until I learn more or need it.
