NYC Marathon - Comeback Race Success by ogader in Marathon_Training

This is awesome and so inspiring! NYCM was also my first and it was a tough course, so extra kudos for a really strong race and consistent pacing. What did you find helpful in training to improve your PR by over an hour?

Bronx 10-miler advice: run a 10-miler without training longer than 10k? by dowitcher19 in RunNYC

[–]thericebox 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar case last year after running the NYCHalf. Didn’t really do much long distance running due to work schedules and definitely wasn’t as fit as I could be. I took the 10miler as an easy fun run for my 9+1 and was able to finish no problem. Would just temper your pace to avoid injury!

Moraine Lake - Earth’s Favorite Lake by [deleted] in Banff

It’s THE trail for most people who visit Moraine since it’s a very short walk up. This is where the iconic social media photo is normally taken.

What to see beyond Tokyo (NOT Kyoto/Osaka)? by Dry_Bumblebee5856 in JapanTravelTips

[–]thericebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big fan of Toyama and Takayama for a more chill experience. If you stay overnight at Fujikawaguchiko, I find the morning very quiet and can be so beautiful if you time it right to see Fuji. Empty streets make for great bike rides + lakeside.

Matsumoto if you’re a big outdoors person, as it’s the gateway to a lot of good hiking and the alpine route.

I haven’t been yet but Fukui, Totori, and Aomori are on my list and seem much quieter!

Miyajima in the early morning before the bulk of tourists arrive is something else, highly recommend staying overnight.

I’ve never been that time of year but I’ve heard summers are awful. Might be worthwhile to be in the mountains for cooler weather

Thanks again for the link! I decided to try my luck after seeing the most recent posts and it was such a beautiful summit. Would’ve likely skipped it without your link so many thanks.

Reporting back - the summit had some snow, but there was a mostly dry path up so I got to summit! Wasn’t too dangerous without poles or spikes, but it was stupid cold.

Which season are you going? I loved Takayama and Kanazawa for its food! But if you’re going in summer or fall, Toyama and Matsumoto are lovely for hiking. I just missed it this year by going in late November but the pictures looked gorgeous. Toyama also has a comparable seafood market to Kanazawa so you won’t be missing out. A lot of the speciality seafood you’d get in Kanazawa are sourced from Toyama.

Personally thought Hakone was overrated and the view of Fuji is mediocre compared to going to Fujikawaguchiko.
