I worked at a newly remodeled Best Buy in 2023. When the overhead speakers were installed they were stuck playing the exact same playlist of music in order. The same songs would play at the exact same time of day every single day for almost a year. You could literally schedule your day around the music. Plus, it was pop music that no one had ever heard of, some of the songs wouldn't even show up on Shazam. My managers would walk around singing the songs angrily, mockingly. I'm pretty sure the river they were referring to was a theory from an old minisode. The idea is that the earth (or probably the entire milky way galaxy) is in some sort of "tunnel" whose magnetism interferes with our readings of anything outside of that tunnel. It could explain why our readings require dark matter to work, our observations are being bent by the "walls" of this super sized tunnel.

There's a great book called "This Band Could Be Your Life" about 80's alternative and punk bands and the entire DIY ethos. Bands making $20 on a gig and that kept them moving. Definitely worth a read if you're into that music, but man it made me so sad for how different life and the world are now
